Got reputations back.

Many thanks for the tweaks and changes, Andy.

I've enjoyed reading the banter this thread has triggered.

After most games we usually hit about 1000 plus people on at one time.

And even more after losses when the trolls come out from under their bridges

I have to ask….

Are the visitor numbers bigger after a win or a loss?

In my experience winning brings in more people to the site in general. Losing has less people (the diehards/tragics) on the site for longer periods drowning their sorrows.

I think the visitor numbers would have been very high in the Neeld days. I may be wrong but I reckon we got heaps of new posters around that time looking for a warm place to cry. Hogan trade was also high traffic. In fact trade period after poor season brings a lot of special types.

Btw I’ve been here so long I still remember when we moved to this server/domain? and I was one of the testers trialing out the new platform. I wonder how many of us still remain from those days and how many have stuck with their original screen name… what will I do if we win a flag??? ?

I'm pretty sure I showed up on the old server around 2001/2(?) and remember the swap over, but thinking about that scares me a little!

There are definitely a few familiar names still around. If we haven't gotten to Coach status or above in 20 years I guess we never will!

It was definitely the reason I joined up. My rants on FB were starting to annoy my non Melbourne and non football following friends.

I’m glad I hung around until brighter days came around. ☺️?

My recollection was that our record days of usage were days in trade weeks in the 2008-2013 era, when we had nothing else going for us. But maybe that was just my own excitement.

Pretty sure that’s why and when I jumped on. Wanted to see if anybody had any hope for any reason that the Dees might have a means or a way to come good. We’re never so happy as when planning for future happiness. One thing that’s absolutely for sure on here is that the humour quotient goes way up when the team is winning. May the humour reign! Great work Andy et al.

Traditionally Draft Night (and the following day), particularly when we have picks in the Top 10 are our biggest days. Trade week is also a very busy time particularly if we are landing a big fish or offloading someone. Post game is when we've traditionally had issues with the integrity of the server load because so many people are jumping on all at once.

Thank you to all the monetary contributors to Demonland who have assisted us over the years. It has allowed us to beef up the computing power of the hamsters running the wheels that keep us online after a loss to a bottom 8 team.

Yeah I think that October 2005 date was when Nasher(?) transferred to the new server. You're right - scary thought!

I've been posting on this platform for 16 years and I will still need to more than double my post count to make the next level of Captain.

I tip my hat to anyone who makes it to the Premier level without being banned for spamming.

I promise if we win a flag I will do my best to spam this site so hard with emotional crying gifs that I will both make the captain rank and be banned simultaneously.

I'll exit on a high!

Edit: speaking of gifs, what happened to the function of being able to insert one into your posts?

Possibly something that was taken away during the software update. I'll check in the settings. It wasn't something that I removed so if it is gone they might have taken it away intentionally.

I seem to recall the site being ultra-busy the day it was rumoured and subsequently announced that Paul Roos would be appointed as coach. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that was the busiest day ever on the site.

Followed the next day by people asking if the salt from their tears was affecting their posts because their keyboards had started to corrode.

Of course any big announcements or news (such as the passing of Jimmy Stynes) are big days on Demonland.

just an observation

we measure number of posts but not volume of text in posts

some posters are notorious for humongous walls of text often to just to make a simple point

worse, some manage these walls of text with no punctuation or paragraphs

at least we don't have anymore one particular poster who managed to grossly mix up constant changes of font, font size, colour and other highlighting all in the one sentence

I had ignored the ignore function until last week, but finally used it to clear out the “sky is falling” posters.

Thanks for this function, should have used it years ago!

Ah yes the day Nasher had a shower and we got Paul Roos. A good day for all.

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
