Just to counter the recent "report" of the Buckley phone call:

Confirms they're shopping him against his will though. Why else are their List Management talking to a player with 5 years to run on his contract? It's SNAFU.

If we needed to trade Brayshaw or Harmes for Treloar I would be open to it. I would look to trade Brayshaw + Tmac for Treloar + Phillips. Collingwood save about 200-300k with that so they can resign Mihocek, Phillips apparently on 550k next year but it's the last year of his deal so you'd imagine we could get him on a cheaper contract after that and still have cash for Clarry. If we needed to throw in a future second or third to get it done I'd do it.

No way trade any off our gun mids we need depth and adding Trelor would compliment it perfectly. T Mac for Trelor pies to pay 200k off Trelors contract per year remaining

Time to go hard at Treloar.  Lets make this trade period the greatest the club has ever had.

? and extend Clarrys contract

Collingwood are a disgrace the way they are handling this. Treloar did them a favor back-ending his contract and this is the way they treat him. I wouldn’t trust them as far as I could throw them.

Wouldn’t all these selfishness issues have been known in 2019 when he extended his deal? Didn’t seem to be an issue then.

Senior players saying they don’t want him. Talk about lunatics running the asylum!

The pies are disintegrating and its a beautiful thing to behold.

of course that's all predicated on the belief that sam edmunds is not telling porkys

and then there is bucks denying it,  and then edmunds doubling down

who to believe

but certainly there's a big red flag blowing in the wind, regardless of what it is specifically

I was listening to Sam today before he ran with the story and he wouldn’t come out with it until he confirmed with some people during an add break

If Treloar leaves it will be for a song to the buyer. Pies have stuffed this up big time. They have no negotiating power in this deal at all. None. Do a deal or pay him and keep a player you don’t want, who has been totally disrespected.

No, 900k makes that leap from poverty to just getting by.

When I was in India there were these people living on the "nature strip" in makeshift tents who dug trenches (by hand) for fibre-optic cabling. Oh, the irony. Wage? AUD$2 per day.

From the outside looking in he seems too clean cut and respectable to fit in at Collingwood. Clearly someone over there hasn't done their due diligence. The clean police record alone should have set off alarm bells.

I’d take him but not on anything close to his contact $$$. Good player but not as good as his contract.

I wouldn’t take much notice of Buckley’s denials, had no idea of what was happening with lumumba either

There are so many exaggerations at this time of year.  Treloar's kicking in 2020 was most definitely below standard, but it hasn't always been poor.  It's dropped away, but I dont have the expertise to know whether that's hamstring related or even a mental issue to do with his hamstrings.  While never a great kick he's certainly been an acceptable kick.  Dangerfield isn't a great kick either.  Nor is Fyfe.

Treloar has finished top 3 in the Pies B&F on 3 occasions out of five.  The other two years he didn't play enough games due to injury to figure.

Injury permitting he'd be a fantastic pickup for Melbourne and exactly the type of mid we're lacking and need.

Yeah, totally. Hamstrings and mental stuff aside, he's precisely the sort our midfield lacks. An accumulating, goal kicking mid with pace.

If the aforementioned stuff lines up and Collingwood pay a bit of the contract, it's a bit of a no brainer IMV.

Fair point.

The fact is though the pies haves completely stuffed up their TPP. They want shot of his salary and are coming out with all sorts of justifications. For that reason I’m inclined to believe Treloar.

Would rather have Clarry on a 7 year contract than Treloar

I love Clarry, but I say take the pies to the cleaners, gain a top player make them pay half his wage... just make sure we have enough dough for our guns when they come out off contract.

I'd imagine if we were to get Treloar we would have to shed someone on reasonable salary in order to have enough money to resign clarry. In my personal opinion there's no way you could fit Oliver, Trac, Treloar, Brayshaw, Viney, Harmes, into the same midfield so I would let go one if Treloar wanted to play for us which Brayshaw would be the one who's on decent money and would lack opportunity.

There are very few, if any, people advocating for us taking Treloar at the expense of Oliver.

The issue to consider is having them both in our midfield. If that's not possible then it's not possible, end of story. But, if it is, then it's worth considering.

Fair enough, I don't know much about there contracts, but I know good teams win premierships so I'd try to sell that to the players.

If he came as a legit salary dump - and they paid some of the wages - then I'd look at it.  You would be silly not to.  That doesn't mean we get him, but you would have to seriously consider adding him to our midfield.

I'd say we would absolutely need to move Tom Mac on at the very least to get it done, but I think that would be a workable outcome for the club.

I still don't really think we're in the hunt for him but you never say never at this time of the year.

And they are throwing Treloar out with the trash so they can get a deal together for JDG. If this is the juggling act they have to do to re-sign a preferred player, they can't work on any deals to get players in through the door.

What a mess.

Issues with separation from family? Unpopular with other players? Injury cloud ? Issues with the coach? Humungous salary.

While I don't know the truth of any of this ( and it's possible there is more bubbling away) , I just get the feeling that "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark".

Pass.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
