Big Brandon getting ahead of himself?  Second ruck at two clubs for a reason.  Behind a first year kid says a lot.

Plays about 1.5 quarters per game.  Really struggled playing full games and his hit outs really suffered.  Is he going there to be back up to Mummy??

Wish him well, bring on a suitable draft pick.

In a massively compromised draft we dont need picks we need players.  He wants to go and they want him so we get overs.

Good to see him nominate GWS. Considering Mumford's position, whether he signs on for one more year or not, their clear need for another developed ruckman only improves our negotiating power.

They made us pay through the nose for Tyson and Frost, and dumped their duds like McKenna and Bugg on us, hope we get something decent for him.

Very dangerous game trading away our only genuine back-up ruckman.

We hold the card here so I hope we demand a lot for him because he has currency.

If we wanted to keep him, we'd be fighting a bit harder.

We'll be fine without Preuss.

We don't hold any cards here. Given that Preuss is a fringe player who wants to leave for better opportunities, in the current AFL environment his contract is as good as worthless.

About the only things we have going for us is that neither us nor the Giants want to be seen as [censored] to deal with, because sooner or later that's going to come back to bite you (see Essendon).

If anyone else posts this I'll spew.

Surely it would work out something along the lines of us trading Preuss for a pick(s) that someone like North wants to get us a ready made player who forfills a hole in our current list structure.  If all those peices don't fall into place, then I'd be inclined to hold onto him.

If Gawn stays fit.

We'll make do. All we need is a contest.

Backup for us (which in the ruck position is different to being fringe), because we have a Gawn, just like he was at North with their Goldy.  But GWS would be recruiting him to be best 22, as would a number of the other potential trade destinations he would be looking at, so that's his value, not as a fringe player at all.

It’ll probably land on giants pick 39. But given Preuss is contracted I suspect and hope we’ll ask for more. Supposedly on 400k or so. So we’ll get that off our books.

Get ready to get howled down for having a stab at a contract figure here. The PC brigade hate anything that is not official or cannot be substantiated by the top brass.

he isnt behind jackson. As a ruck Preuss is miles ahead of him. Jackson was a forward this season that can pinch hit in the ruck. If you pitted Jackson against Preuss in the ruck Jackson would get monstered.

But don't let the truth get in the way of a good story

For the person who mentioned Langdon, he is out of contract and has nominated he wants to be traded to West Coast.

Could Preuss go to GWS, Caldwell goes to the Saints who will be his nominated club and we get something from the Saints and late exchange of picks? Note the Saints delisted 2 ruckman from their list yesterday

I wonder whether on top of Preuss there could be a mixture of exchange of picks to improve our draft position. Like many here I'm of the opinion that as a contracted player we shouldn't accept tiddlywinks for him. While I accept that given he hasn't played a lot of senior footy that doesn't rate him super highly he has been kept out by two of the best ruckmen for the last 5-6 years (bizarre choice by him to come to us!) and many believe he would walk into the number one ruck spot at quite a few clubs. So he isn't worthless.

To us he is back up to Max and he isn't getting any younger.

Ideally I would like to see us have a look at their list see if there is someone in there that might be able to fill a role who is from Melbourne and keen to come home.

The PC brigade?

Do you mean people who don't like baseless rumours?

Like your whole "we're paying Viney more than Geelong offered him" one?

As to Preuss, I get why he wants out (why he came here in the first place is the bigger mystery) and I get why we're not falling over ourselves to hold onto him, but I still think we should be firm enough with GWS to ensure we get something back that actually helps us. If we think we can put a late-second/early-third pick to good use, then that's fine.

Yep, talking to your ilk. Fact. All clubs have essentially the same pool of wages to pay players. We hear our cap is very tight. Do we have a list to win a flag, no. Have we paid the same or similiar amount to power clubs like Geelong with their star studded lists of the last twenty years without any success, yes. Join the dots PC.

Just to be clear: you have no evidence, only your opinion, that we're paying Viney more than Geelong offered him.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
