Can we seriously close this thread. Oliver is contracted and going nowhere.

When we target opposition players that are contracted, do you still believe this?

It’s more than a big footy rumour

No it's not. Someone who says their a Melbourne supporter on Big Footy started a rumour that we were going after McKay and sure enough a day later a Carlton fan started a rumour they were after Oliver. McCulre then mentioned what he did on footy classified and this one took off. This sort of stuff happens all the time on there, sometimes they'll suck in a journo, who's trying to stay relevant and it gets oxygen for a while, but there is nothing in this at all.

I can tell you honestly mate that this is more than a big footy rumour and was instigated by Oliver and his camp not the other way around.

Clarry won't get traded this year. He's contacted and I expect a Daniher/Papley like scenario even if he requested a trade.

The big issue will be when he is out of contract next year and potentially miss finals.

2021 could not be a more crucial year then ever. Goodwin needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

?I agree with you but I think if he get the right deal then he might go this year but if not then he plays next year and thinks get re-assessed.

So, we are talking of Clarry leaving based on a throwaway comment on Footy Classified and some bloke on a BigFooty supporter page?  Have I missed something here?

I think if the right trade came along I'd be open to it.

If Carlton really want him they can trade us Charlie Curnow with some other picks/players involved from both sides.

Curnow is cooked mate. I would not be surprised if he doesn't play again. Still struggling with his knee injury.

I wouldn’t take Curnow due to his injury history but McKay should be in our sights if this eventuates

Its absolute bunkem.. Clayton was 100% angry about finishing 5th.. Like Morris said (who i despise) Clayton is competitive and wants to be the best, maybe as another poster said, its immaturity and he needs to get better.. BUt there is a snowflakes chance in hell that Clayton will leave the Dees. he loves it, loves the players. Its not happening.

If you follow pop culture, Jennifer Aniston  according to every trashy magazine has been pregnant since 2002 but yet to have her baby..

Maybe he loves winning more than all those other things and sees a better chance of that happening elsewhere?

It's all hypothetical of course, but plenty of people love partners and leave, love jobs and leave etc.

If Carlton were to double his income and guarantee it for 5+ years, that would be something you could learn to love

Oliver ain’t going to be paid $1.6 a year I wouldn’t have thought

If he wants to be traded we simply need two top three picks (including a pick 1) and a B+ player in return.

Simple.

Throw in a second rounder for good measure?

All because he came fifth in the B&F?

I just think think he like some players would be getting restless because of the lack of success. Oliver's already had 5 years in the system and he's played finals once. It would absolutely play on their minds knowing they have a bloke on the list named Nathan Jones who's barely had any success. Do they want to go down that same path?

Putting my football hat on, as a player, would absolutely hand back all my individual achievements if it meant I was constantly playing finals each year and knowing that we were so close on the brink of success.

Watching the likes of Brisbane, St Kilda go past us in the last 2 years would leave a pretty salty taste in their mouths.

Having dealt with Oliver from our bushies days, he's a competitive beast who just wants to win every single game and taste success. He's never once come across someone who's in for the individual stuff.

If he wants out cause he finished 5th in the best and fairest that is exactly the type of attitude that makes this club bottle it every season. I want team first players not these stat and individual accolade chasers. Pathetic if true

Its the silly season, and some Melbourne supporters - at least on the evidence of this site - appear to be sillier than most. Perhaps we can put it down to Covid insanity. Either way, some of these trade geniuses would be better off going to a corner and reading a book.

Hard to think that 5th in the BnF on its own, would prompt him to look elsewhere  The impact of 5th is disappointment and he gets a lower $ bonus than finishing higher, which could be enough to concern him.

I would guess at least half a dozen players earn more than he does so a big package elsewhere could be attractive.

There could be any number of other issues:  pace of his development, the blowtorch from the media and no-one at the club stood up for him, other players get lots more than him but contributing less, other players not working as hard as he does on and off the field, relationships with teammate(s) etc.

@Demons11and @Demon3usually have good mail and don't post on a whim.  So if they are saying Oliver is restless I believe them.  I also believe their view that he won't be traded this year and next year is critical to keeping him (as it is to keeping many others).

Somehow   this Rumour  needs to be put to bed.

By the Club and player,               otherwise as they say, it will go viral.  Get its own legs and take off.

And who knows where a rubbish rumour will end.   in tears probably.

Seriously reading this thread is hilarious - posts going all over the place.  There would be a lot more noise if this was true however if im Clarry im putting the club on notice that i expect the club to be ruthless in acquiring more talent to keep me at the MFC

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
