I'm more concerned about years 2022 through 2030!!

I couldn't agree with you more on this. I'm very worried about it. Much much a required player.

Teams come knocking for Clayton every year, last time he was OOC North offered him a huge deal and he didn't even really consider it apparently.

I think the frustration with the players is real though, i've heard that a few of our really important players are asking questions of the club about it's direction.

I've always heard Goody isn't as well liked as it seems on the outside so could be really interesting times ahead.

Multiple threads, but will put it here too: Carlton made an approach to Melbourne about Oliver, it was obviously not even considered. The 'unhappy' part I think might be made up.

Interesting you only mention this know when a thread is created but never brought it up in  the trade threads??

Someone on BF suggested we were into McKay and after the Carlton folk took the bait they started talking about a swap for Oliver, seemed like it was a few 14 year olds trying to be heros and McClure has shown where he gets his news

Didn't think it was worth mentioning tbh.

I messaged it to another Demonland poster a few hours ago though actually.

I believe this, effort of the team seems pretty average this year

Watch it happen all summer.

Noticed that straight away Dazz. Could also easily be the case with most of the other clubs. Imagine being stuck with the same blokes for 3months. Boys are over it.

I’m going to file this away with the ‘Petracca requests trade to Geelong’ rumours last preseason.

The annoying thing will be that blokes like McClure aren't held accountable. They have the attitude of believing that if they throw enough mud, something will stick, and they'll use that as a way to suggest their sources are good.

But, that's the nature of the beast these days. Not much we can do about it.

I gotta say, if I had been away from home for close to 3 months, missed out on finals and was forced to sit through a “best and fairest” in something akin to a country RSL, I’d be pretty flat as well...

If he was worried about the direction of the club why the [censored] would he go to carlton? This would make a lot more sense if he was linked to a top 4 team, but carlton have performed worse than us in every year of Clayton's career bar 2019 when they finished 3rd last above us.

They were over the moon with their year this year and they finished 2 wins behind us in a year we are bitterly disappointed. The only reason he would to to carlton is for the cash but if cash is what he is after you would just take the 1.5 mil from the Roos.

They should be asking these questions and should be just as frustrated as we are. They should believe that this list should be achieving more than they have.

Hard to gauge anything from the Bluey I reckon. Looked like a super low key, casual, quick event and it was apparently held on Tuesday, so would have been the day some blokes were delisted and possibly some coaches fired, on top of missing finals. Plus, with TMac in the room sans MFC polo and the Bennell situation, would have been awkward in there I think.

I haven’t watched a second of the BnF video but I honestly believe there is a significant problem at the Club.  I was told earlier this week by a source that has proven to be impeccable in the past, that a Player late last week phoned his Manager to make an enquiry about the possibility of him getting a trade out of the Club despite having 2 more years to run.

Robbie D’Orazio the Player Manager had to re-align the Player telling him that it was a ridiculous question given all the circumstances as a deal could not possibly get done.

I queried my source as to whether he thought it was motivated by an unsettling 6 year, $10 mil deal from the Kangas and his reply was that he thought it was more about this Player wanting to get to a Club who he thought would give him a greater chance of regularly going real deep.

This might be a story that never re-surfaces, however, the Club would not want to miss, or just limp into the 8 next year, or else it might.

As goody mentioned we have changed our game plan quite a bit this year (no easy thing to do and some players struggle with learning new stuff i reckon).

We are much more defensive and the model requires all team buy in to maintain the zone.

Part of the defensive shift is much more defence with ball in hand, tempo footy.

We are more systems focused than ever and so roles are super important.

A combination of learning new systems (which is hard at the best of times) and a model that does not leave much space for playing on instinct is hard yakka.

Add in the hub, all the weird selection decisions and not making finals and you get a recipie for discontent.

And selling that system whilst also maintains morale and buy in AND being ruthless is a pretty tough ask for any coach.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
