If someone posts Smith kept Daniher goalless.... I'll lose it!

Hahahaha

May demolished him. Which was a shame coz then they put him in the ruck and almost won the game.

Yeah that really got me.

I'm sure he'd fume if a commentator made some joke about Collingwood supporters not having teeth or something.

He's also a rubbish commentator, made me yearn for Dwayne Russell getting the mic.

Amazing how when you get the early frees going your way they pull out some rubbish in the last the even up the ledger.

May post match: “I’m in career best form”

Yes you are big fella. Yes you are.

They like to give us a scare and we expect it why should this be the case?      We won and we are alive and kicking

We lack a solid backman and Smith is not the answer.  Please Goodwin you are flirting with danger what do you see that others don't?

Sometimes I think MFC has shares in a medical practice specialising in thoracic surgery and depression.

and thats saying something coz he's bare ordinary too

Eddie McGuire has to be the worst commentator of all time.

His job is to call the play.

Instead we get a combination of cheering for the underdog, umpire bashing, expert analysis, lame Collingwood references, and snide remarks to an entire supporter base. Every time he's on.

He can [censored] right off.

Twitter.

I'll obviously take the word of some on here over that, so going by someone like titan, whose view on a game I trust, he gave us nothing.

Good thing we didn't drop Hunt and ANB like some were suggesting

Spargo missing in action

Brown very solid

He is for 4 out of 5 matches nothing has changed.

If we make the 8, we deserve to play finals.

If we miss, we don't.

Why do the Dogs deserve it any more than we do if they lose to Fremantle and finish the season with a worse record than us?

Carlton finished 9th in 2013 and still beat Richmond who finished 5th. Then nearly won the semi final the following week. You never know.

Spot on.  This "deserve to make finals" notion is rubbish.  Teams "deserve" to make finals if they are amongst the top 8 performers in terms of wins and % over the course of the season.

The final 8 concept sees nearly half the teams make the finals - inevitably this will admit teams that are not top-tier in any given year.  Arguments could be made for a 6-team finals system in an 18-team competition, but that's another conversation.

Go Freo!

He gave up 3 goals to Stewart. And gave up a shocking handball turnover in the middle of the ground, and otherwise gave us nothing. Was just a bad game from someone who shouldn't be playing IMO.

Correct. He is not a defender. He is barely a footballer. No game sense, which is basically the most important thing for a defender to have. Can’t read the play at all.

They drop Jetta and won’t play Lockhart so they can play this guy. It’s bewildering.

I am so fed up with Melksham. He is only in the team because he’s best friends with Goodwin. Brings us nothing.

Of course I’m happy we won and will be getting behind the freo boys tomorrow however I nearly put my hand through the wall (Clarko style) in that last quarter.

Only Melbourne could nearly lose a game they should have had sewn up at 3q time. Two oppo goals and we get wobbly legs, that didn’t fill me with confidence.

Still, go Dees!!!!

Eddie is on my list of people I won’t brake for if the cross the road in front of my V8 truck

What an uninspiring end to the season. We don't deserve to play finals.

Not only is there a mental fragility to this group, but Goodwin can't get them going.

Fancy needing to play one good quarter of footy, going into three quarter time with a handy lead and then the running stops and we go safely down the line. If it's not the players naturally going into their shells, it's Goodwin's coaching.

It was such a typical facile Melbourne performance. Petracca, Oliver, Langdon, May, Lever, Salem and Hunt were great. Fritsch struggled to finish off the good work up ahead of him and it almost cost us the game, until he finally finished off the goal from 10m out.

Loved the few glimpses of Kozzie today. He just had a little bit more cleanness that was noticeable. Rivers is fast becoming one of my favourites. Not only does he show great composure for a guy who's played 9 games, but he brings the tackle pressure. That tackle at a crucial moment basically won us the game.

Our outside run in combination with their lack of defensive set up was good for three quarters. Our tackle pressure in the first half was really good and then dropped away, as if we couldn't be bothered, and as if we know that the Dogs will win tomorrow.

I think I've seen enough now. If the club wants to sack Goodwin, I'll back them. We have enough good players, but the team as a whole switches off and when it's not allowed to play the game on its own terms all of a sudden within games, our guys don't know what to do. We've managed to eventually get games on our terms that have started by not being on our terms, but if we lead a game and then the opposition makes changes, we don't know how to counter it by trusting our system.

Max talked about 'maturity' at the end of the game. That wasn't maturity. We completely went away from trusting the system and almost lost the game. I think we need changes.

Glad to have gotten over the line, shame about letting the Bombers back in the last but we lifted at the end there. Now it's a waiting game...

Hunt showed what he can do. Lock for starting forwardline if he keeps that up

Weid so frustrating, he has plenty of these games where he can't get to the right positions. He really struggles to read the play IMO

Melksham nowhere. What is his role? What happened since 2018?? Very lazy

Both Melksham and T Mac signed until the end of 2022 on decent money

Not looking great in hindsight

Any hi money signing is only a knee injury away from looking poor with hind sight DJ. Both were burning at the time. Win some lose some.

Because a lot of posters here are continually calling for Smith to be picked in this side & how he keeps his opponents quiet. He clearly is not up to it but for some reason Goodwin keeps selecting him.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
