Adam The God 30,730 Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Parker's ball use is horrid. Bangs it on the boot Viney and Oliver 2019 style. Sides let him get it because he hands it back to the opposition from centre clearance. Their major offender. Bizarre that Melbourne supporters would want him when they're finally starting to see better ball use from stoppage. I'm confident we won't go near Parker. 2 1 Quote
Adam The God 30,730 Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 That said, we do need more mids that can win the ball and can't rely on Oliver to be always fit... 😜 Quote

His kicking efficiency this year alone is higher then Petracca and Viney and on par with Oliver's. So realistically he becomes one our better ball users in the midfield. Currently averaging 27.8 disposal per game and has kicked 15 goals so far. So a goal kicking mid. Petracca has kicked 24 goals this year. Next best midfielder is Oliver with just 7. An All Australian mid and a 2 time best and fairest winner (won it in a year they played in a grand final mind you ). Edited August 19, 2021 by dazzledavey36 2 1 Quote

Parker > Viney Problem solved Edit: Little bit tongue in cheek, but I am big on the fact you should always be looking to improve. Parker is top 5-10 player in our side, if he wanted to come you would never say no. Edited August 19, 2021 by BW511 Quote

I'm less worried about that than i am about meters gained from clearance, if they're winning it, and getting it in deep consistently, out game plan supports us locking it in there and getting some scoring chances. parker is definitely a good enough kick to hit up a lead though, if someone did manage to get some seperation. in saying that, i can't see it happening. Let's be honest, it's really a pipe dream anyway (it is for me..). Parker just strengthens our midfield to another level. Jacob Hopper would be someone I'd look at as well. 1 Quote

That's the problem though IMV. Parker's kicks are shallow from centre clearance. I've been watching his clearances over the past few weeks after noting how shallow all his clearances were against us when they went 17-4 against us in clearances and still lost. I agree that Parker is a nice kick outside of stoppage. Quote

Agree ... so we would get an aging one dimensional mid and hold back the likes of jordan, sparrow, and even harmes to a degree ... no thanks Quote
Axis of Bob 11,945 Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 (edited) I'm not sure I'd bother spending big on Parker for a tiny gain in our inside midfield, where we are already excellent. I'd rather spend less money making bigger gains in areas where we actually need improvement. Edited August 19, 2021 by Axis of Bob 2 1 Quote

Winger with a good kick, outside mid with a good kick, perhaps a medium sized half forward... with a good kick. Quote

Milkshake, Fritsch and Hannan. Also throw Smith into the mix. We would have to get rid of at least one of those if we were to chase Gunston. I wouldn’t mind experimenting with Fritsch on the wing - but he needs a lot of work on endurance if he is to keep up with Langdon. So hard call on the others. Hannan or Smith probably needs to go. i dont think Carlton will bid on Williams they honestly can not afford him unless they are paying the rest of the team 200-300K. Remember they are paying Martin close to a million and they have Cripps on their books as well plus the other half a dozen other commanding player. I think you guys are all mad! Here we are, top of the ladders, with one of the youngest and most talented teams in the comp, with more rising stars than any other, at least half a dozen players in the twos who would walk into any other team - and you are constructing lists of players from other teams who are mostly inferior in talent to half of our reserve grade side. We have built this great position through astute recruiting. Why would we create internal dissension just as we are on the cusp of an era of superior performance. Quote

GCDee 3,202 Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 I would be okay go let Weid go if we have a plan to bring in another KPF to develop. We only have a 2-3 years of brown and McDonald. If we clear cap space which includes weid and make a genuine play at King in 2022 I'd be happy. 1 Quote
Roger Mellie 4,205 Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Any love for Nathan Wilson? I remember being super-impressed with him when he was at GWS. He then went home to WA on a decent contract only to become average. I'd go so far as to say he's fallen off the face of the earth. Is there a reason for this (injury?) , or is he in the in the Jeff Farmer, Jesse Hogan, Rory Lobbe mould of playing better away from their home state? Or, is it a Freo thing? Anyway, he looked a good to very good player before going to Freo. He's out of contract and hasn't had an offer yet according to the AFL website. 1 Quote

My argument was that imo Tomlinson is now depth for me. Not only has Petty fitted in the role seamlessly, but his intercept marking and reach has really impressed me alongside his defensive work. With the consistency of games that Petty has been able to play now I expect this will only give him great confidence heading into next year. A bigger and more fitter Petty excites me. The other aspect is Tomlinson might not be ready to play come round 1? If we go off the 12 month recovery period then it's fair to say he'll miss first couple of rounds into next season and then have to go through VFL to push his claim once again. Good depth player to have though. Tommo is our solution to playing a one-on-one lockdown style. We have to many interceptors. He has the height and body to match it with King brothers, Hawkins and similar types. Quote

I like that idea but King will attract a 800K+ salary which we’d need to move on several players to find the cap space now. Then you have LJ, Kozzie, Oliver who will also demand decent coin to stick around. Especially Oliver I can see another Trac type of deal for him. Quote

Our pick 18 and Future 18 ain't going to cut it for King. I think we should be aiming more for a free agent key forward and developing our own, given it will cost very little in trade assets. Trading for a high draft pick kpf is a pipe dream. 1 Quote
