After today, Ainsworth might want to jump off the sinking Suns boat and join the Dees push for premiership glory.

Considering he barely gets a game for GC I doubt he'd be in the best 22 picture for us. Very, very lazy footballer who also is a inconsistent finisher, he's not really a pressure forward or a goal kicking forward I don't love him. Don't like Hanrahan either he reminds me of a poor man's ANB, he tries hard but just doesn't have the skills required to be an AFL footballer (not hating on ANB just a comparison in play style). I like your Stephens call though definitely potential there he does very much need to put on size though.

The one I don't understand how he's not playing is Riccardi, definitely would be worth a crack, still just 21 not sure if this is a big call but I reckon he's got better upside than Weideman.

After today still got some concerns with our midfield. Harmes' skills are a real worry, if he's not got a defensive job he can be very meh, Viney been a bit better but just trickling along, I've also got concerns with Viney's long term sustainability with his injuries and the way he plays though that 5 year deal was a mistake and reckon it'll come back to hurt eventually. Sparrow pretty meh as well I've got my doubts if he'll ever make it as a mid, Jordan does have better upside though. Think our mid depth might get found out come finals, just gotta hope our defence can stand tall, but its an issue we need to address this off season.

Yeah it's a real issue. Wonder if they'd consider moving Brayshaw back to being the third mid and playing Jordon on the wing.

Bit grim when Viney and Harmes play poorly in a training drill vs GCS.

Something interesting that doesn't seem to get touched on too much is Richmond's midfield during their premiership run. If you put Dusty to the side it isn't overly daunting on paper. Although clearly it functions incredibly well as the results would show.

bob and andy discussing sam reid (SS) on the radio after tom morris' article, i'd definitely take him at the dees assuming the swans paid a portion of his deal, he's a better reserve than mbrown & daw + bradtke doesnt seem to be coming on and gives us an option should we/weideman decide to part to ways. definitely worth considering as a salary dump by the swans for a late selection or to move points around

AFL Tonight just said Luke Parker is an unrestricted free agent. Yes please.

I'd be chasing Luke Parker hard.

Would be keen but not sure we have the currency to get him. Although his value would certainly have dropped after two years in the system and regularly being overlooked. From memory @Yokozuna had mail that we were keen on him during his draft year. Haven't seen much of him since drafted but in his draft year he was reported to be a balanced midfielder with pace.

Looking like it'll be a fairly quite trade period for us.

We have 2x second rounders & a future 1st - surely we'll try to trade into this years 1st round as per normal

Oh I meant in terms of player movement.

There’s a bloke who played for Casey on the weekend called Bailey Laurie that looks exactly like the type we need. From his draft info…

’Laurie possesses lightning speed, silky skills and an ability to read the game’

I’d be trying to grab him if we didn’t already have him. I hope we can draft in another player with his attributes but with more experience. I think we need more pace and skill in our midfield to make it more dynamic, and less predictable.

Well we drafted him last year so no issues there ?

Anything doing on the Maynard front? Interesting that they'll probably need to offload another player. A unique situation too given they need points for Daicos.

Interesting on the limited time I've seen him play (2 VFL games) I'm yet to see this lighting speed that he supposedly has. I thought if there was a weakness of his game it would be his speed.

You're right. His 20metre sprint time is 3.19sec so not quick at all. No idea why that got written on his bio.

His agility/lateral movement + disposal and decision making are his strengths allegedly.

read an article recently (cant recall where) which said Maynard had put talks with pies on hild until season end and clarity on coach althugh industry sources said he was highly likely to be going to Dees.

I don’t think he can put contract talks on hold considering he's still contract until the end of 2022.

Laurie may have quick reaction time in terms of disposal by hand or foot but he is definitely not quick in terms of running speed or even short acceleration from what I have seen so far

Would 100% be talking to Gunston

Yes he's 30 next year but he's all class

One of our weaknesses is definitely forward potency. Would make TMAC third banana and allow him to be the link up player with 2 targets still up forward

I think it is more important to improve the ball going into our forward line.  We need to get a highly skilled mid, I still believe that Brayshaw is our most tradable player to get this.  If the right player was there an outside mid that can get it and kick it well, Brayshaw can help make the deal.

The commentators on kayo freebie referred to Laurie Bailey continuously during the Casey game.

He appears almost identical to Bailey Laurie, so maybe we could draft him and have two of them.

The dynamic duo!

Can you play all of Brown, Tmac, Jackson, Fritsch, Gunston in the same forward line?

Gunston is an absolute jet but IMO we already have our Gunston in Fritsch. Gunston might be cooked as well he has missed the entire year pretty much with a back injury, which is pretty bad especially for an older player. I'd like to see Fritsch drift higher up the ground more like Gunston does, his field kicking exquisite, especially going inside 50 always lowers his eyes.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
