Would be 32 when next season starts, but we could get him dirt cheap.

Still dominates the Hawks' time trials and is in their leadership group, both qualities that would appeal to us on top of giving us another genuine wing option.

Obviously wouldn't be around a long time, so I guess we weigh up if the potential impact he would have over 1-2 years is worth the effort.

Absolutely think he is someone we should enquire about. I think he would be a great fit and 2 years would work. He is outside, line breaking, good skills, good tank, would compliment Langdon on the other wing.

Baker played really well in the Giants game, though dropped off a bit in the second half. It really reinforced to me the importance of having a second winger with pace who carry the ball forward and gets metres gained.

And of course it goes without saying we need more above average kicks and Smith is an excellent kick who gets great depth with his kicks. Has the skill to put the ball to a forwards advantage so they would love that (almost every player used to have this skills, few seem to anymore).

I don't really know how Smth is going but from the bits of him ive seen this year still looks in reasonable form. Would cost us little and i'd bbe keen.

I am a huge advocate for chasing both Issac Smith and Tom Hawkins and keeping Nathan Jones for one more year simply because list sizes and soft caps are shrinking and so is our coaching department.

I think teams with essentially on field coaches and leadership are going to really do well next season, and i'd have all 3 in our best 22 right at this moment.

Hawks have offered him a 2 year deal, which they normally don't do for over 30s.

that's a big surprise

if that's the case he can stay there; no way we'd want to better that

if we were to approach him you'd think it'd be a 1+1 with triggers deal

Fallen away this year

Turning 32

No longer dominating Hawks time trials

List cuts would force him out, exactly why we shouldn't either

No thank you

Jack Gunston, on the other hand...

Won the time trial AGAIN at the start of preseason (and has won it every year since 2015).

Came third in the one at the end of January in the same week he had a new baby.

Despite his age, I would take him in a heartbeat. He had a later start than most AFL players playing country footy in Albury up to 20 years of age. He has had no serious injuries and he retains his speed and run. He is a brilliant link player and kick. He would be a great mentor for younger players. In fact everything we are looking for in a player. He still has 2 or 3 years left if he wants to continue. A two year contract would be a good option.

However, I suspect that he will remain at the Hawks unless he gets a huge offer from a successful club, although Carlton  may be an option. There was some thought that he may leave over this years preseason but Clarko wanted to keep him and the loyalty factor came into play.

However, I could see him leave the Hawks after their poor season. I’m sure Isaac would feel that he has done his duty by now.

All things being equal he would be a great acquisition but all things are not equal. We are not seen as a successful club or one on the cusp of success and we are unlikely to have the coin unless someone like Viney flees the camp.

Came 3rd in preseason 2.2km

Didn't figure in the 11 x 200m trials (Sam Frost did, ironically)

Regardless, that's far from dominating. Stop making excuses as justification for claiming that you are 'correct'. Selective quoting to nit pick. You're getting back into some old bad habits

Stop quoting me, I've asked you previously to put me on ignore. It's a simple request, difficult to misinterpret. TIA

And ANB & Bedford won ours, so time trials probably come a long way behind the experience in flags and leadership he would provide.

He could walk in as our captain, leadership would be a step above any we have. Regardless, we need more leaders for driving standards

We should work on getting Phillips across from the Pies...that's where my energy would be headed.

I know he's contracted but they need cap space and he's a great 2 way runner like Langdon plus can hit the scoreboard.

Is Hawkins on the move?

How about you put me on ignore then champ? You quote things I have in my post and then make comment about other things I post. You appear regularly as a recent visitor to my profile here and put laugh reacts on my posts. I suggest you do yourself a favour and don't read my posts if they upset you so much.

I merely responded to your assertion with facts.

Cheers.

Is that official somewhere or you've just got the good word?

IMO we should not take a nearly 32 yo struggling for form this year, possibly squeezed out in a trade due to list reductions on a 2 year deal (remember Hawks have offered him 2). Two years ago, fine. Not now.

So the reason he would want to come here is money and/or a longer contract?

Nope.

And there you have it. Officially paranoid, as well as wrong

I've not initiated quoting you since you got me a ban. I've asked you twice to put me on ignore

Please do not quote me. I will no longer quote you. Honestly, how hard is it?

Let it go buddy

struggling for form this year

Rated elite for uncontested possessions, intercept possessions, rebound 50s.

Rated as above average for disposals, kicks, marks, inside 50s, rating points, effective disposals, metres gained.

Might not be in BnF form these days, but 'struggling' seems an overreach.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
