Hindsight is a wonderfull thing.

Many may not agree but the Roos appointment may not have been such a great move.

I for one agree.

The worst thing that has happened to this club in the past decade is the departure of Jackson. He saved this club from being a complete joke. I wish he had stayed longer.

Absolutely agree 100% with this. Bring back Peter Jackson. If I was Bartlett I would be picking up the phone and begging Jackson to come back.

If we implode in these last two games everyone should be in the firing line including the faceless board.

Not denying that.  Just the pettiness of her bringing it up.

Very sad to see a woman who claims to support women, be the puppet of a group of white priviledge men,who think that their money and colour gives them a right to terorize the people trying to do a their job. This article is full of falsehoods designed to cause distress and disruption. It is highly defanitrory and her sources ( which she basically reveals ) in all her articles about melbourne, if you read closely you will see a pattern. nothing in this article is true at all. What is true is that she has shown her cards, that is, her premise as a sport journalist is based on pushing the agenda for a small group of white privilegde men, who think they are entitled to impose themselves into footy clubs for their own egos, whilst sitting in portsea and sorento. Shame on you Caro, this group of men and yoursself are not melbourne. There a 40,000 plus members that are just as important , rich or not, no matter wehere they come from, we are all  important. Footy is not for just a small group of white men, who are you are matey with, it belongs to everyone.

What are you going on about? I’ve noticed a pattern with your postings, lots of hatred towards white people and men. Do you have a bob cut?

There’s very little strength shown at the very top of the club as shown by allowing the situation whereby we were the club to play Sydney and Freo within 4 days up in Cairns just 5 days after playing in Alice Springs and being one of only two clubs not to have a bye during several weeks of football frenzy. Eddie would have gone down kicking and screaming rather than allow his club to hit the wall and miss a finals series that way.

I could not believe there were no grumblings from anyone within the club about this fixturing.

We'll always be a spineless club until we get real Melbourne people in who care about this club.

One can always hope they did some sort of deal in private in compensation.   I have an advanced degree in clutching at straws.

As is often the case, Wilson is not really wrong but you have to wonder why the obvious and inevitable scuffling at one club approaching the end of a mostly disappointing season is worthy of a feature article by the Chief Football Writer?

Caro is no longer the Chief Football Writer for The Age. She has, in effect, retired as a full time journo and now provides maybe one article a week. Given that, it's not surprising if she hasn't written about Richmond's covid breaches. That's the stuff to be covered by The Age's full time footy journos.

It was a great move. We were a VFL club in an AFL competition with no money, no credibility, no nothing. We had to get him, or someone of his stature, at any cost.

More power to him; without that appointment we wouldn't have a club now.

I read this alot on this forum that jacko got roos, how do you know this, oh did jacko tell you. What happens if your actually wrong..

Did anyone else notice this:

"Bartlett's accusation that the team had "trashed" the Melbourne jumper,...followed private calls for someone in the club outside of the coach to hold the Demons and the football department to account. Neither Goodwin nor his head of football Josh Mahoney saw it coming".

I've been arguing for Mahoney to be held accountable for 2.5 years so not unahppy his accountability has been highlighted.

This part might please some on here: "Melbourne have never quite given up on luring Alastair Clarkson back to the club and Ross Lyon remains an active target".

Such a cop-out of a statement. What does it mean? It could mean nothing more than Ross Lyon letting anyone and everyone know that he'd like to coach again, anywhere.

Smith..multiple concussions and wanted to sue the AFL re brain injury?  Is he father of Joel?  Did he bag out the club for its management of his son?  Hmmm.... would he be the best choice for president????

If you've watched Classified all year, Caro has been extremely quick to shoot down any idea of Goodwin's job being under pressure, on financial grounds, whenever it's brought up.

Whether her AFL sources are in her ear or not, and with the MCG out of action in Victoria, it doesn't serve broadcasters/AFL to see the Dees improve and make finals next year.

Wrong Smith mate.

They're talking about Steven Smith, former president of the MCC.

Ok, my bad.  Seemed like we were fishing a little close to the stormwater outlet...

Saying we'd play anyone anywhere at any time and there'd be no excuses for our season left little room for any u-turns when it came to the Cairns situation. At least publicly. It also wasn't the AFL's decision to have us fly in and out of Alice Springs on the same day. We all know the reasons whey we did but if we'd stayed in Maroochydore and played in Brisbane or the Gold Coast we could have flown up a day or two before the first of those games like Sydney did.

The interest bit in that LH is " neither Goodwin or Mahoney saw it coming. That days it all for. We keep putting up poor performances and they did not think people would get [censored] off.

Port Adelaide have been coping OK with the "fly in, fly out on the day" routine. I suspect if we want to blame travel arrangements, not only would we be clutching at straws, but masking the real problems.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
