I have to say Daz, I’m in the same boat. Have a bit of a sick feeling about this one, I can feel it, deep down, in my plums.

If Goodwin cannot get the side up for this one, he never will

I want to see 4 quarters of serious effort and nothing less

The Club expect to make Finals THIS YEAR.

How serious are they...?

Was that a rhetorical question ?

I thought Jones was OK against North.  Used it well and a couple of goal assists.

Do you have these sorts of posts queued up ready to go every week, mate? ? I really admire how you change it up.

Agree, this is probably the match that tells the SG / FD & present list tale SW.

We have a somewhat out of form Pies outfit coming off a 4 day break.  A few very solid ins, obviously Pendles the main one.  We are coming in with a physical advantage off a 6 say break.  Big Maxy a blow but we have Pruess who was recruited for exactly this scenario.  No excuses imv.

Blind Freddy knows who we need to cover here in Pendles and Sidey.  Both lock down roles imv, at least in the first half.   Viney to Pendles and Harmes to Sidey with assists from Sparrow and AVB.  Not sure either have the mileage ability or agility required but would rather these match ups which sets Clarry, Gus and Tracc free to worry / tire the Pies mids going the other way.  Viney resting HF when not benched.

Season / finals chances pretty much on the line.  Can we bring a switched on fired up group of 22 who really want this one from the first bounce and leave it all on the park win / lose or draw?

We will know in about 5 hours whether SG and this list are on track or the one step forward two back scenario we have seen far too often under SG's tenure till now.

Today is very much about progression and the stepping up of...

The MFC list, the FD, it's culture / brand and the coach.

Fingers crossed.

Viney playing a tagging role will definitely help him to reduce the see ball, get ball at stoppages and will bring team mates into the game I reckon. Good post.

I hope this can stay between me and the few thousand people who post on here.

Thanks to [censored] coronavirus I've started dating a new girl who is legacy Collingwood due to an ex.

I've nearly flipped her. My last three partners were in the didn't-give-a-[censored] category due to foreign origins.

I feel that this match is both crucial for our season and my short-term future sexual happiness.

Like if she displayed a Wobbles' scarf on Tinder I would never have swiped right. I feel cheated.

Anyway, amusingly, she's missing a couple teeth. She also has a PhD. She's aware of the contradiction.

Go Dees.

radar shows there has been quite a bit of rain in southern qld.

wind has now changed to westerly which luckily is pushing most rain w to e just north of brisbane

one small band left which should pass brissy in next 30-40 mins with just the tail of it giving maybe a light shower

after that should be fine and ground should dry quick with temps still in low 20's, wind light

Well someone has to balance the "all is lost" and "it's in the bag" posts.

When was the last time we won 3 games in a row? I just can’t see us doing it today.

Overcast with slight drizzle here and there. Gabba has really good drainage so I would expect the ground to be in mint condition.

I think the rain may hold off during the game.

Intermittent showers. Sunny. Cloudy. Showers here in Brisbane.
Raining again now for past hour after sunny period.
21c. Pleasant for footy. Not cold !!

Off to the game.

Haven’t seen Melb v Collywobbles play live for a very long time.

Hope we play a lot better than we did against Port.

Would be nice to see a WIN live

Go Dees.

I reckon they're taking a risk with this one...

What Q will he go down?

...or, will he start?

Ditto Polly.  Nothing near his heady days but pretty serviceable.  No doubt being asked to play a very different role on the outside now.  Very little contested, just get into the right spots between the arcs and execute coming inside 50 and looking for opportunities inside on the 45 where possible.

Taking much of the contested stuff out may help him with recovery, keep him a little fresher / sharper and (might) see him deliver a little more accurately by foot.

If i've learned anything with the Pies over many decades rjay they will not usually put a player on the park (H&A... not necessarily finals where the stakes are higher) unless he's very much ready to roll.

I would expect him to play and be somewhere near his best.  Take him lightly and he'll put us to the sword as he so often does against most teams.

And if he is a smidgen under done?  Even more reason to make sure he is pushed to his physical limits with a hard lock early, at least for the first half anyway.

Fair comment Nails. Pendles is a proven top gun. You underestimate at your risk.

I will tip that at some stage of the game the frees will be 10-5 against, or worse and that Pies have at least 2 goals from soft frees.

we usually win if we kick straight and the other team doesn't if that is of any help

Got too drunk during the day and missed the Gold Coast game. Still adjusting to Australia time. On the border-line now. Need some suggestions how I can fill up one hour of my life until kick-off. Go:

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
