Tipping those that can keep our competitors for finals out of the 8 or within striking range to overtake their spot in the 8.

  • Sydney
  • North
  • Dees
  • Crows
  • Freo
  • Saints
  • Hawks

Underlined are unlikely but it is good to dream

Unfortunately the Giants and dogs have easy games.

Such a big game against the the Pies!

I would call it an 8 pointer but it's still just played for 4 points

That Essendon draw did us no good at all.

Had Essendon lost it would have opened up 2 spots in the 8 for us to take...Pies and Saints with both Bombers and Suns trailing us.

Bombers beating the Saints is good but it gives the Bombers a big leg up. If Saints win it gets harder to take their spot.

Lose to Collingwood and we will be well out of the 8.

Looking increasingly likely we will need ten wins to make the 8 which is probably at least one win too many for us.

LH I believe a Blues win is best for us as it puts to bed any chance of Freo making the 8 and we are yet to play them

GWS are vulnerable but hard to see them losing to the Swans

I chose Freo as their % is really poor and they would have to win an extra game to overtake us (unless we lose a few by a long margin).

As an aside, I feel time is starting to run out for teams that have played 11 games and still outside the 8 (or in the lower part of the 8).  I think we (and some other teams) have a real advantage over them.  Use Bulldogs as an example:  Assume 10 games needed to make finals:  Bulldogs (on 5 wins from 11 games) need to win 5 from remaining 6 games.  Whereas Demons (on 5 wins from 10 games) need to win 5 from remaining 7 games.  Same logic applies to teams at the lower end of the 8.  Maybe the Ess forced bye may come back and help us...

Definition of no common sense: AFL umpires

We could be in the 8 on Sat night if we win!

GWS looks like us at our worst.

Tonnes of inside 50s but cannot score, and conceding far too easily out the back.

Sydney winning is a great result for us if we are genuine about our finals chances.

Plus percentage bonus...

Biggest upset of the year. Giants are full of guns. Swans missing many top players.

the 8 is open!

Well one things for sure out of that game....

There's  a coach more under pressure than Goodwin

Atrocious performance by a highly skilled side

GWS is missing Greene and Davis, but yes, with Sydney missing Franklin, Kennedy and Heeney, this is a major upset.

These umps have NFI.

Holy [censored].. GWS dropping this game and by a big percentage means that this game is a HUGE must win game.

Its simple, we beat Collingwood, we go to 8th spot.

C'mon Dees let's dare to dream!

A win doesn't guarantee us a spot in the 8 - if Essendon beat St Kilda they'll take it and we'll stay 9th (with GWS 10th).

Doesn't change the fact that this game for us this weekend is huge.

Hmmm. When was the last time we had such a massive game with a lot riding on it against Collingwood...?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
