My Dees List: Finals standard AFL players

Key Forwards: Weideman

Medium Forwards: Melksham, Fritsch

Small Forwards: None

Inside Mids: Oliver Trac Viney Brayshaw Harmes

Outside Mids: Bennell, Langdon

Medium/Small Defenders: Salem, Hibberd, Jetta

Key Defenders: May Lever

Ruck: Gawn

I'd be chasing,

Key Forward, CHF type. (Jacko will be a ruckman/onball)

Small Forward/Mid: Papley type

Left foot Wingman

Outside Mids: Goalkicker would be nice.

Mature Rebounding Right foot defender: (I really like Rivers but he'll take a year or 3)

Bit harsh on the smalls Lockhart and Kossie  plus Spargo and Bedford are  work in progress but very promising and near enough to role playing and performing.

Also Jacko will fill in as ruck mid or forward And be of value. This time next year all should be in our best 30 if not now!
Rivers is only half a season away from getting HB fir the next decade also and sadly Jets has no pace now.

Aldo Preuess  also showed his value last week and is AFL standard.

We  red another KPF Petty might be that or CHB/FB and a Dane Rampe/ Zac Williams type snd snorber outsider it Tom Papley.

Even so all teams have gaps and it's the team Play in the end that  will flourish and succeed under pressure.

Higgins is too old now. 2-3 years ago he'd be perfect to add to our side now.

I agree past it now

the only way you'd consider higgins is if you think yr in the premiership window in 2021-22

according to the latest red and blue print, that's pretty much the case for us

higgins is playing as good a footy as he has over the last couple of years; hard to see him retiring

who knows, we could get him for cheap and he ends up playing about seven seasons, retiring near 40 like boomer harvey

like harvey, he doesn't seem to be losing his pace, his appetite for the game, or his ability to impact the contest

would happily have him on our list for a (highly compromised) 4th round pick

Go for Williams that's all we need and we don't have to give anything up for him either. I think Bedford is about to explode Spargo is doing his job and Kossie is a gun we also have Bennell who is a quality player. Just give me Williams on the wing and I'll be happy.

would definitely love williams as a free agent acquisition

other than that, would like to parlay our (hawthorn) second round selection and our own third rounder back into the first round

based on the current ladder spots - hawks third last and us being 8th - it'd be work 1194 draft points, roughly the equivalent of pick 14

but i'm confident we could build something to trade with the teams needing a greater points 'loading'

I agree with this. Also have a crack at Darcy Moore incase Pies cannot contain him within the salary cap. Bit of payback for Howe.

I’d ask the question of Papley as well.

Edited by CYB

Williams over Papley for sure. Papley will cost way too much in a trade. If you managed to grab Williams, you could package up both our 2nd round picks to trade into the 1st round to target the best small available that way, imo, assuming there are none expected to hang around til the 2nd round.

Higgins would walk into our side in front of at least 3-4 players. If age is an issue, he’s 3 times the player Jones is and he’s still in the side.

Would have him in our forward line ahead of Fritsch, Melksham, Spargo, Kossie.

Would play him on the wing ahead of Gus or Tomlinson.

Would play him off HBF ahead of Hibberd/Rivers

We need ball users that can hurt and he does that, regularly, in a rubbish side.

Rubbish. Give me fresh an exciting talent such as these two over a slow and used up footballer.

Right now? You are kidding yourself If you think any of those blokes are having the impact Higgins would.

I am as excited about Rivers as anyone, but Higgins would keep him out of the side for at least 2 years.

Kossie is a little different, but he gets a lot of leeway for looking flashy

Spot on, dazzle.

Higgins isn't the answer at 33 years of age.  I'd rather back in the talent we already have.

Sorry BW but overrrating him and his tenure.

Gus Fritta Kossie Rivers Hibbo Melky Spargo and Jones all are entitled to be on our list now and mostly except Jonesy and maybe  Hibbo for 2021.

Zac Williams better option and our run and carry as a team is improving by the game.

Poor list management and hindering player development. Right..

Stick to your day job, footy ain't your thing.

No doubt they are all entitled to be there, but they are definitely not better than Higgins.

I am not saying we should sell the farm to get him, but age aside, he’s a good footballer and fills a hole we currently have.

One a bit left field is Shaun Higgins.. i think Nth might look to gut the place in terms of age and therefore older players will be up for grabs.. he would be a great pick up as he has so much class.. could be great off a Half back.. just a thought.. feel free to howl it down.

Yes if North don’t offer him an extension.

One year deal. He’s all class. Would be very handy as a “run to the premiership” top up.

Williams and Cedric Cox sound nice. I think we can shed ANB and a Baker for example

Yes imo Cedric Cox would be a good pickup. Might cost us a 3rd round pick - but I think the Crows might give us their 3rd pick for ANB.

He's about 70 I say hell no.

This is a horrible article that is full of misinformation.

For a start, he keeps bringing up Pick 3 - which was not part of the deal at any stage.  He says effectively it is Pick 3 and Pick 12 (last year for us) vs. Pick 2 and Pick 12 this year for North.  The problem is that our first pick last and North's first pick this year were not even part of the deal itself, so are completely irrelevant.  He even goes as far as saying we have runs on the board because Pickett and Jackson have looked good so far even though, again, Jackson was not part of the deal in any way, shape or form.

Basically, it is their picks in this upcoming draft (Picks 12 and 27 at the moment) plus the bloke they drafted with one of the picks they got last year (Flynn Perez) to come out as being better than Pickett overall.  Time will tell on that of course, but I'm more than happy with Pickett.

And sorry for the short rant, but that article is unmitigated poo.

Cam McCarthy has quit Fremantle. He was told he wouldn’t be offered a contract for next year.

Wow. If true, they've had some shocking trades in the recent past. Was it Ross Lyon or Peter Bell?

I wouldn't mind if we had a look at the following players.

Zac Fisher - only recently back into their team and has played just the 3 games this year. Has pace, unsure on his skill execution but seems decent based on the limited stuff I've seen of him.

Lochie O'brien - Hasn't played a game all year, don't believe he is injured but may be wrong about that. This one is more from memory of him being a reputed excellent kick on his preferred left and playing that outside role. Perhaps he has other limitations preventing him from cracking into their senior team? Former pick 10.

Paddy Dow - Former pick 3 with pace, has only played the one game this year and is not listed as injured or named in the team/emergencies. Not sure whats going on here? Perhaps returning from injury?

Darcy Tucker - Has spent most of this year injured I believe but is a Vic boy and might want to return home from freo. Excellent distributor of his left. Freo would ask for more than we could give most likely.

Xavier O'Halloran - fighting for a spot in a stacked GWS midfield. The limited stuff I've seen of him indicated that he is a good kick of the footy and seems composed. Don't know too much more about him.

Jye Caldwell - Seems highly rated in footy circles and has been speculated on here a few times as well. Again will face an uphill battle trying to permanently crack into their best 22, particularly with Green to be developed in the coming years as well.

Ian Hill - Small forward from GWS, compliment Kozzie in the other pocket??

Jeremy Sharp - Going by the "inside the draft" video we seemed to be hoping GC would take him to allow Rivers to be free for us, perhaps indicating that we don't rate him? Or perhaps we simply rated Rivers higher and would be keen on acquiring Sharp to join former teammates Jackson and Rivers. Predominant outside winger. In his first year so would more be one to be on the radar for the future.

Brayden Fiorini - Used to really rate him, seemed to be carrying GC midfield along with Swallow over the past few season. Now appears out of favour. Might want to return to Vic if he sees limited opportunities?

Mathew Ling - Spent most of his first two years at the Swans injured, debuted this year and played three consecutive games before being dropped. Lefty with pace.

I don't watch a heap of games outside the dees so some input or feedback about some of the players from either their junior days or AFL exposure would be welcome. I've tried to target players that can play that outside/wing type role and looked at ones that, in theory, wouldn't cost greatly. I also am largely unaware of their contract status.

Depends what numbers the picks might be. ATM Geelong have 16 & 17 and Bris have 18 &19. Both pairs are 1st rounders.

Would you give 18 & 19 for Papley? I certainly would, dc!

nope, not for a fwd pocket averaging 1.5 goals and 13.8 possessions per game

for 2 x 1st rounders i'd want a bloody good key position fwd

i'm sorry but theres nothing used up about Higgins. Pickett has already been extremely fumbly and lacked composure, literally the exact opposite of Higgins

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
