Only thing I'll say on this, is that Hunt has been given a crack this year and, for the most part, done little with it.

Time to give Charlie a crack and see if he can do better.

Agree that Hunt was disappointing in his 3 appearances this year albeit 3 goals v the Blues. However he did kick 21.10 with 18 GA's in his 21 games last year. Offers more than Spargs IMO.

Won't argue that Hunt wasn't handy last season.  His stats are proof of that.

But he is well off the boil this season.  Happy to back in the Spargo selection until late tomorrow night when he doesn't do much and I eat some delicious humble pie. ;)

Everyone offers more than Spargo. He had his chance against the Eagles and stuffed it. WOEFUL FOOTBALLER.

I dunno what the point is in having Preuss if we don't play him for this exact scenario.

EXACTLY. HE MUST BE ABSOLUTELY [censored]&(ED OFF THAT HE SIGNED WITH US. THERES PLENTY OF CLUBS THAT COULD USE HIM. HES SEEMS UNWANTED BY GOODWIN

Apart from that you seem happy with the team selection. ??

Thought they should've rested Jones, don't know how he'll fire up after such a short turn around.

Jones is a has been shouldn't be in the side clanger king.

Developing.

To me, he deserves a run at it.  Hunt got his chance and did little with it.  Bennell has been hot and cold.  Time to give Charlie a game or two and see if he can cement a spot in the side going forward.  He's shown he is capable of doing it.

He's a smart player he just needs to play to his strengths and not cough up the ball.

No problem with these selection except for the Spag Bol.

looking at the comments here, if North have as much trouble working out who rucks when and what our forwards set up is going to be, then Goody may have pulled off a selection masterstroke.

if, however, we come second in a two horse race, he will be a long time scraping egg off face.

Spag Bol for El Capitan

When is Wise right? He's a clown. Spargo is a disgraceful selection.

really will miss Gawn and Viney and Lockhart.  Lockhart has played really well over the past 3 weeks and whilst big in stats, his tackles and smothers and spoils and pace as a back pocket has been excellent.  They need to be back for the Pies clash.

Dangers are clearly Higgins, Goldstein, Polec and I think Zurhaar and Jed Anderson with their pace in the forward line.

Well that's a season ending selection of ins.

SG does it again.  Roll on 2021.

Good grief i have been waiting all evening for this

Spargo and T mac Selection equals committee  lost plot

Tmac is not right cant run cant catch cant turn cant kick  the game has passed him by

Spargo is vertically challenged with zero footy smarts

Why employ Preuss if not for this scenario

Tmac has played and shown nothing. Preuss at least may really want to play and perform against his old club

gobsmacked>

Yes it does seem very strange from the outside

Goodwin still needs to perform

He aint safe...

Given the bizarre nature of the season, I could sort of understand the changes.

That is until I read on the Melb website that Jackson " will be taking the number 1 ruck duties" !!!!!

That is crazy! Goldy will be too strong and too experienced for him. I can't see it doing any good for his confidence or his body.

I assumed Tmac would ruck against Goldy and aim to at least nullify his hit outs and then we rely on our strong mids.

WTF is Pruess by the way

I don't get it.

They don't have much do they North Higgins and Goldstein. Polec was dropped 2 weeks ago and Zurhaar and Anderson are just average. The question is can Brayshaw get any where near Viney's level and can Jackson get any where near Gawn's level if they can we should win easily but if they can't we will struggle I think we will win anyway North have proven they can't win without Cunnington and Ziebell and Brown to that equation then they shouldn't get close.

Easily in SG & Co's top 10 worst ever committee results.  And that's saying something.

T-Mac is Gawnsky and Spargo is bottom of the small man rung at the club.

Goody still experimenting with the season on the line.  What a donkey.

I am a bit surprised that Prusss was not picked. On about $500,000 a game he is our most expensive player. Just looking at the teams, I think the Dees might win this one. We just have too many players that should win their positions. I think it will be an ugly game though.

Thanks Uncle....Pruess sitting around for this exact scenario but let's bring back T-Mac .  Just as LJ was finding some touch up forward let's throw him into the ruck against the hulking Goldy so he can get mashed.

There's an old saying i live by ..."If you don"t be bloody stupid you'll be alright".

I must be in the minority but if McDonald is 100% fit, I am happy with him and Jackson sharing the ruck. I would have been much happier if Max rested last game rather than this one though.

Normally I would have preferred Preuss, but the fact he hasn’t played any sort of game in however long makes it hard.

Not a fan of the Spargo selection, but let’s see.

B: SALEM, MAY, LEVER

HB: HARMES, TOMLINSON, HIBBERD

C : LANGDON, PETRACCA, VANDENBERG

HF: MELKSHAM, T.MCDONALD, HANNAN

F: FRITSCH, WEIDEMAN, PICKETT

FOLL: JACKSON, OLIVER, BRAYSHAW

IC: JONES, SPARROW, SPARGO, RIVERS

We have 7 defenders so I think Harmes will definitely be back.

Jones and Sparrow in the midfield.

Spargo forward but I think he could spend time in the middle, it's worth a shot he's not a forward.

Rivers as the 7th defender.

I think we will share the ruck, Tom at the centre bounces, Jacko up forward and Tomlinson down back.

I really don’t like us constantly calling our players ‘spuds’.  Paging Werridee, you’ve have made it abundantly clear via umpteen posts in this thread alone, that you think he is one (a spud) but remember he is one us, trains hard, bleeds red and blue every time he represents us in battle.  Give Charlie a chance ? you never know he might surprise us all.

Have a look at Hunts last couple of games. Pathetic. He should be in the team but he lost the chance. Show some intensity and consistency and he might stay in.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
