TEAMS: Rd 10 vs Adelaide

Not bad changes, would have preferred Jones and Sparrow out and pressure forwards and a defender in.

Dropping Oscar doesn’t make sense to me, thought with him the team it allowed May and Lever to play their roles a lot better

Double Mac out, will please many posters. I thought Oscar had been decent and that our backline looked better with him in

Interesting that the other 3 teams playing tomorrow have loads of players “managed”. We actually have the least changes out of any of them. Adelaide have a good 7/8 changes.

Happy with the changes, although even if he didn't play as well as previous weeks, I think Oscar is a little stiff to be dropped.

Like ANB and Bennell in, especially with Pickett out, and Vanders adds some real toughness to the side and players seem to walk a little taller with him there.  Also pleased to see Tomlinson picked as well.

The rest of the outs make sense.  Kozzie is injured and being managed, while Hannan hasn't got near it for a fortnight.

Crows have made about 10 changes.  The one I noticed was McAdam, who is being managed.  He provided a real threat up forward for them last week so that's one positive for us.

Tomlinson to CHB?

Goody is to stubborn to try that unless we are 6 down in the last qtr and Tex and Fogarty have pantsed may and lever. I'm already having visions of disaster.

I’m thinking Tomlinson might play back.

I would personally leave out one of Jones or Sparrow in favour of another more suited to playing on the outside, but we know by now that isn’t Goodwin’s go.

Is this Levers first match against Toxic Walker?

They played each other in 2018 I think, when we smashed them off the park in the NT.

Amazing how many credits certain players are given more than others.

I'm really surprised Jones gets another gig. No idea what value he is adding right now.

I actually like the changes. I'd have Oscar in against North, but happy to have him out against Adelaide. They don't pose a big enough threat in the air to warrant another tall.

AVB and Bennell replace Hannan and Kozzie. Tomlinson to a wing. ANB brings more forward pressure and another option for the wing when Tomlinson provides Max a chop out. I'd keep Jackson forward, unless he struggles to get into the game and then I'd play him for spells in the ruck with Gawn and Tomlinson.

Bring the pressure and we'll win.

Crows have a fairly tall forward line this week don't they? Seems a strange call at this stage.

Forward line already looks better on paper., Backline we had just got some balance and we drop Omac after one so so week. The midfield is the problem but we persist with playing too many like types who cant run and cant hit a kick. My problem is though when I look at those not playing I dont know who plays in the midfield ahead of them To fix that problem?

Oscar is our best fit for Walker. It also allows for Lever not to cover key defender. With Gawn being suspect he may not be able to push back as he has. We are limited for talls if Max is unable to play out the game. If that was the case Jackson would need to ruck leaving Weids the only tall target up forward. Going short has not worked. A very risky selection

I'm not usually one to be overly critical of selection but these selections make little sense.

We lacked hardness and effort last week, so we bring in Tomlinson and Bennell? Both have a serious aversion to body contact.

OMac's omission could only be about matchups - our backline has gelled pretty well, even during our losses.

Pickett's injury highlights the need for about 2-3 genuine small forwards on our list. He and Toby Bedford are really our only true small forwards. The rest are makeshift or medium sized.

I more meant Harmes and Gus.

I would have kept Bennell until North. Would have Rivers in the side.

You can't select your side based on the possibility of someone getting hurt, though. Max either has the all clear or he doesn't.

Going short would be an ok strategy if we had any genuine small forwards on our list. We have Pickett and Bedford.

Can someone remind me what position Tomlinson was recruited for?

Very short sighted not to rest Max

Yeah, they have talls, they just don't particularly take marks in their forwardline, outside of Walker, who May should take.

Changes were essential. Forget height and former reputations - not getting a kick or two is the worst marque of a footballer; sadly, this factor applied.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
