I wonder if he would be best served spending the preseason back with the defenders?

We have enough defenders but if he does trim up, then it definitely provides the option to swing him forward and back

Enough defenders? Like who? May and Lever are our only locks for taller KP players, and even then Lever isn't suited.

There's word that Oscar is off, and we are hoping that Petty goes forward. And the less we see Smith in the team the better.

I'd rather Tom plays back, then if needed, we can swing him forward, rather than the opposite.

Tomlinson, Petty, Smith and honestly T Mac is such a liability by foot in the back half

Happy playing Tmac up forward if he gets his body right.

If we're chasing goals late in a game dont mind switching him and May who can use his strength etc.

Im not sure if you agree or disagree?

Out of that list of names, Tom is the only true defender in it. And while he might be a liability by foot, he's still better than the other 3.

Play Tom at CHB, gets the 2nd tall forward each week, and frees up Lever to zone off.

I think Tomlinson along with May, frees Lever up.
Watching T Mac down back and him dispersing it by foot use to give me nightmares.

I think Tomlinsons last 6 games were excellent and he is very safe by foot

If the answer to TMac is as simple as strip extra weight off and all of a sudden he's back to 2018 TMac, I'm a massive, resounding yes.

But I'm relatively sure it's not as simple as that.

If he was out of contract we all know what the answer would be.

How to salvage value is the conundrum.

My gut says trade with an offer to pay half salary and hope we can get a second rounder in return.

Who is going to pay in the current climate?

We have to refurbish the old model

Maybe some other would take him at $300k in the hope of salvage but unfortunately I think we're stuck with him.

If Viney gets 5 years........ grrrrrrrrrrr

We must keep Burgess, TMac can be sorted with the right offseason

It’s not that simple but if he gets he running power back then it will definitely help

He's been a non contributor for 2 seasons. You have a lot more faith than I do.
TBH I doubt there's a place for him beyond next year if Luke J develops as we hope.

Call me an optimist but I still can’t get past the fact that we have a guy on our list that averaged 2.65 goals per game over 20 games in 2018. Had he done that this year he would have won the Coleman.

In fact over the past 5 years the only players who have averaged more than this in any given year are Kennedy, Franklin, Riewoldt, Hawkins, Brown and Cameron - that’s pretty impressive company.

I’d rather play him at Casey all year in the hope of him regaining that form than trading him for a second round draft pick and trying our luck with someone else. The fact that he can also play defence and wing is all the more reason for keeping him.

He was getting his Mojo back in that Carlton game last year. Unless he has a Chronic problem Tom and the FD have to try everything this offseason.
i don’t want to see Jackson thrown in to early.
like I said, we need to refurbish the old model, Burgess is our best shot at doing that

I liked to know who encouraged him to stack on weight? You kick 53 goals in a season, decide to put on 10 kgs in muscle for extra strength and think your going to perform the same way its insane.(Where were the coaches in all this?)

He would have had to discuss it with Simon over a possible new role going forward closer to the goal square and its back fired massively.

Tmac whatever weight you were playing at in 2018 get back to that and implement an agility program to regain your sharpness.

It'd be great if TMac drops the weight but we can't just expect that to get him back to 2018 levels. With no Jesse, he won't be getting the 21ndbest defender like he was, but it may mean Weid gets off the chain a bit more.

I think there is definitely room for TMac, Weid and Dogga Jackson in the team with Fritta playing higher up the ground.

Body is shot since the footy injury. He’s got the turning circle of the titanic. If it’s not a straight lead and chest mark in space, then he’s out of the contest. We took a big risk putting our stock in him being a dominant key forward. The gamble has not paid off.

Remember that the DKF idea came BEFORE he di hid foot. Let us see if he can rewsume at his previous level, because he was our best endurance athlete up until his foot injury. I AM SURE he would not like how he is palying this year, because he has been a VG player for us until trhis.

always confused by this theory. Tmac played great footy without Hogan

There’s not exactly a massive sample size for either argument.

The response could be how he needed Jesse as Tom only had one game where he kicked 4 or more goals without Hogan in 2018 with Jesse continually receiving the best backman.

I’ve always thought Tom has had a solid career and worked incredibly hard to get the most out of every ounce of talent he has. With this in mind though, I can’t see he’ll ever have a year like 2018 again (the 6/6/6 rule prevents us playing that way) so I wouldn’t mind if he left.

I strongly believe we need a number 1 key forward and would happily offload Tommy for a Cameron or Brown who would both be upgrades imo.

Tom just tweeted that it’s disgusting the way some supporters talk about Oscar.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
