Look, TMac's struggling, but the answer isn't OMac, and it may well not be Smith.

How do you know?

TMac does not disgrace the jumper has been a solid contributor but his time has come. One of many hard decisions the club has to make. The only positive about today it show where we are at and hopefully forces change

That's not what you said though Elegt. I'm not here to be an apologist for his recent performances but that's a far cry from the player being a 'disgrace to the jumper'. That's moving into keyboard warrior territory that's removed from the reality. And the reality is that Tom Mc Donald has been a great clubman of the Melbourne Football Club. Whenever he hangs up his boots, he can look back with pride at what he's achieved. Forums are for opinions but your opinion (this time) is ill-conceived and wrong.

Never said his careeer has been a disgrace, just his efforts this year. Consistently refuses to put his body on the line

I don't think it's his efforts it's his ability his knee must be stuffed the one he done against Carlton. I can't remember him being so slow and not being able to turn like he has this year. I think it's time to unleash Brown he's more mobile and quicker than Tommy.

Maybe this is more out of hope than anything else but I reckon Tom is on the improve and was close to clunking a few marks in dangerous spots. Wouldn't be surprised if his form picks up over the next few weeks and kicks a few. While no where near his best from 2018, he's contesting in the air a lot better and he's timing his run and jump at the ball much better as well. Can only hope that him and Weideman are starting to understand and work well with each other in the forward line.

Having said all that, it is clear that we need to start planning a long term KPF partnership with Weideman post McDonald. If it's not Petty then I imagine we will have to look at trade or the draft.

No idea - maybe a late 2nd rounder from a team desperate for a forward who would take the punt he returns to form? I wonder if the Jackson selection was part influenced by the downfall of TMac in 2019. He would free up a fair bit of cap space too, should he depart.

Yep he would. Money to be used chasing outside talent. Qn is whether we’d have to pay some of his salary though.

He just looks slow and clumsy. honestly kind of looks like he's carrying a bit more weight than usual. i think if it were up to me i'd be having a word to Burgo about trying to help Tmac shed a couple of kilos and really get that mobility back.

it worked for Steven May this off season, i reckon a full pre season, and a super lean and fit Tommy McDonald could bounce back hard in 2021

Really don't know what to do with McDonald.

Really thought last year was once off due to team performance. But this year he just hasn't been able to back it up.

Do we move him down back??

Please don't suggest this. He's a butcher back there. As soon as he went back to ruck a defensive stoppage he kicked it straight into a Bulldog who picked up the crumb and kicked an easy goal. As @DeeSpencer says, his problem is he overrates his abilities and doesn't play the percentages. That spells death in defence. Would get killed once the ball hits the deck too.

I think he plays out the season as a KPF and we look to trade him. The problem is we're a bit skint on KPFs. Weideman, Jackson, Petty(?) and Brown. You couldn't see the latter being on the list next year either.

If Richmond can build a forwardline around one KPF in 2017 and win the flag, then we shouldn't be afraid of the prospect of having Weideman and Jackson with a rotating ruckman down there.

Jacko could be anything, I see a lot of people saying we need to target a forward but Weid & Jacko looks the goods to me...? As you said, teams have made it work with one tall, let alone two.

If we do trade him, maybe we could get Tom Phillips from the Pies and get the outside run that we really need in return.

they could use a decent key forward.

One thing I'll say is that at least when T-mac tackles he tackles hard, wish I could say the same for some others.

when's that? If I was playing tag with Mcdonald he'd never lay a hand on me. He's super slow and has no lateral movement.

I'd delist both McDonald's and show them the door.

Hes an awseome kicker at goal too. I think his body is collecting past debts. Yesterday was below par but the 2 games prior he had been working back into form.

However the games prior to those 2 and most of last year cannot be overlooked. No matter how many say hes doing his role in helping Weid, if hes not kicking goals hes not doing his complete job. Alas, probably time for him to move on.

We need another proven big power forward asap. As talented as Jackson and Weid are, I dont want us caught short again.

Slow.
slow.
slow.

he was too easily stepped around by both defenders.

then he was half hearted. Offered nothing around the ground when he went into the ruck.

his fumble in the last to gift the bulldogs a goal was a game killer

has to be dropped this week

Two tackles yesterday. About 6 missed tackles. Did you watch the game ?  He was so slow the Bulldogs defenders walked around him.

Reading is important, didn't say anything about his tackle count simply when he puts a tackle on they feel it. Was reaching for some kind of positive yes but by all means let's go back to kicking the guys head in and blaming him for a crap all round team effort.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
