Overall, I don’t think the Dees’ position is a dire as some make it out to be. Their 2020 players who were 23 or younger on January 1 this year have 399 career AFLCA votes between them – more than you’ll find on any other AFL list.

I'd wager once Clarry passes that age mark in a yers time, that number would close to 0 and we'd have the worst crop of youngsters going round. As an indicator, we haven't had a Rising Star nomination since 2016 and the only player who came close was Spargo in 2018.

Collingwood who are flag favourites are only playing one tall forward.

No interest in what other clubs do, the way we play it's stupid.

Alternatively they could change the way we play but I bet that doesn't happen.

For the record, Tomlinson played forward for the second half on the weekend and was ineffective.

I agree with most of the article though and it is damning. We're the worst team in the league and some serious changes need to be made because we're a mile off the pace and going backwards.

Richmond and Collingwood both have very good field kicks at their disposal.

It can work if you have the players for that style, we simply don't

Not hitting a target when you are kicking into the forward line is stupid regardless of the size of the player it's kicked too.

Just like if you are kicking from full back, the half back flank or on the wing.

We like to play and win contested footy but it doesn't excuse poor kicking.

This has nothing to do with the size of our forward line.

In the most recent draft we got Jackson, Kossie and Rivers. A ruck/forward, forward pocket and back flank.

Field kicking is a function of having marking forwards (Riewoldt, Tom Lynch). If we could get Weidemann/McDonald/Tomlinson functioning delivery would improve as well. Just do it Melbourne, you know it's right.

This is part of the problem Goodwin, does not try new things, even during a game he hardly tries something new, he gets out coached in all most ever game.

No good having the ball, if you cannot use it properly. 
I am shocked at how bad our skills are.

Have you noticed how well the pies are doing with the best ruckman in the comp. Richmond can only beat us.

Richmond are not a great kicking side. and showed up again against us. They rely on their few good kickers massively in Cotchin, Martin and Houli to set up play. Martin dropped off and they lost a few games. there game is placed on pressure and little dinky kicks and chains of handpasses..

I thought the article was poor. Solution ? put Thomlinson up forward. he is very poor one on one. Hes an elite runner with good foot skills so keep him in the middle.

Love how eveyoner is all over the Dees now to kick the dog whilst it is down. especially all the drafting articles.

They may not be considered a great kicking side but Cotchin, Martin and Houli would be ahead of our best and that gives them 3 more than us who deliver the ball forward of the centre

If we are to win games then we need 2 focal points in the forward line and we had them when we made finals in 2018. TOM and the WEID.

That is the best we have. Give them another go together.

Our players are coached with tunnel vision goggles on, no peripheral vision what so ever. The amount of easy entries to kick to a player with loads of space and time is just insane.

Tomlinson going forward sounds interesting tho.

In a member exclusive Zoom session with Jack Viney a couple of weeks ago, I asked him if the game plan had changed this year. His response was that the game plan has basically been the same for some years.  I interpreted this two ways:

1.That this is in fact true and we keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result (definition of stupidity) or

2. It has in fact changed but Jack, for one, is not aware it has.

Either way - we are in real trouble.

The Board gave this Rookie Coach a huge extension. 
2 years is what he earnt

The entire system has stalled since that extension

 

Tomlinson going forward would be a bust as his kicking for goal is worse than any of other forwards.

Bring back a forward coach and a kicking coach.

i cannot believe that basic skills are still not demanded at AFL LEVEL

It is a [censored] joke that the MFC is asking supporters for an extra $mill by Christmas ? and our players cannot execue the basics of the game

It is very strange we have not changed the game plan. I once spoke with a very senior IBM executive, they had lots of plans including individual ones but whilst the organisation insisted on the planning process and tried to execute the plans everyone realised they would be very different by the end of the financial year. 

To adopt an overused word, our coaching group does not appear agile enough.
