Can't believe we asked for a higher penalty.  Go figure.   Manoney and co need to take a leaf from Eddie's negotiating book.

I read that as a negotiating ploy to secure the outcome of a lesser sentence for Pickett - particularly as with Spargo not in selection plans anyway and was still allowed to play in the practice matches, his suspension was rather virtual.

Didn’t Steele get picked up before 7.30 am by police...I’d suggest a bit more than a six pack of beer !!

Yes, it seems they found him wandering around in a street in Williamstown at around 7.30am.

Reportedly, he went to Wells' home (not sure where that is) sometime Saturday evening.  Where had he been all night?  What other covid protocols did he breach in those hours?

Wells' home is an 'unauthorised' covid place.  I suspect wandering around the streets is also an 'unauthorised' covid activity.

He has breached multiple covid protocols.  He is a vice-captain of an AFL club.  He should be setting the example, at least for younger teammates.  At some point the AFL needs to set punishments that send a message:  doesn't matter who you are, break the rules and you don't play.  Not negotiable.

He has made it harder for the AFL to negotiate with state premiers to let Vic players in.

One of the cops barracks for Collingwood, perhaps :D

One time I got picked up by the cops and asked for a lift home from the station. They replied ‘we’re not a [censored] taxi service, now [censored] off!’
Yet another example of Collingwood Privilege

As Roy and HG would say.

Footballers are class A citizens!

Good to see Howie looking after the swelling on the knee injury too. Plenty of ice packs to grab out of the esky.

I remember not giving a lift to someone because they went for Collingwood.

'Mitigating' factors!!

Oh so predictable!  My opening post:

Both travelled in an Uber then Sidebottom travelled to a covid unauthorised Collingwood staff member.  sidebottom-dunn-in-covid-hot-water-after-drinks-with-howe

On the basis of Spargo got two weeks as he was the senior player Sidebottom should also get two weeks.  However:  "...it's believed rigorous negotiations continue between the AFL and Collingwood".

No prizes for guessing if some 'mitigating' circumstances are discovered.

But Sidebottom is vice-captain.  He should get extra simply on the basis of poor leadership.

Wonder if we hear where he was between Sat night and 7.30 Sunday morning.  I read on another forum that Wells is deeply religious, has a family and was teetotal at North so unlikely to be up for an all-night bender in his own home.

Shades of the Jack Steven mystery with whatever 'mitigating' circumstances were found resulted in no penalty.

Will Scott challenge Eddie to disclose all as he did over theSteven mystery.  He who laughs last... ?

Whatever Sidebottom did and wherever he went from what we already know, it was premeditated and deliberate disregard for the covid rules.

I have said this before but simply because you can play football does not make you a rocket scientist. And this lot prove the case.

So aside from breaking the virus rules he was out of his tree on booze in a football season.

SImple. Club claims breach was all due to drink and thus unintentional, and then state club will deal with drink issue as breaking of internal club rules.  Club in control of penalty. Simple. (ButI  can't see them getting away with it this time.)

4 weeks down to 2 seems the most likely outcome according to media reports.

Pies are playing the 'compassionate' card ie he went to visit his injured mate, Howe, in a 'caring capacity'.  'Compassionate/care' visits apparently are allowed for AFL players.

Doubt that means they can spend hours drinking.  But hey, it is Collingwood so anything goes that they and the AFL can put a 'plausible' spin on.

If he was found in the middle of a suburb by police and has no recollection of part of the night its hard to see how he shouldn't be required to quarantine for 14 days, apart from any penalty for breaching the rules.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
