I think this is a good result, we avoid the Perth Hub. Indeed given the uncertainty of the year the idea of basing ourselves in Maroochy for a few weeks is not a bad idea. A familiar place for the team. I'd expect round 7 will be away against a Qld team. It will then be much harder for the AFL to put us in some other hub arrangement. I am not sure the whole home and away thing (apart from Geelong and the WA hub with crowds) is going to mean much this year.

Either would be good. They’ll feel the cold after being in the GC for 4 weeks !!

Home games are important because the Home team sponsors get to put up the signage etc.

Also, as I mentioned earlier being the Home team at the G get a special covid-19 payment from the MCC.   Of all the G tenants we have the lowest membership by far, so every $ counts for us and our sponsors.

Boundary advertising goes to the MCC that is why Geelong make so much money with their clean stadium.

You do get to put up some seat covers though

One country..one flag

"NSW health minister, Brad Hazzard, said he has been assured by the AFL and the NRL it won’t be selling tickets to NSW games to people who live in the Victorian Covid hotspots:

I yesterday spoke to the AFL and the NRL, and pointed out that we obviously have these concerns. They’re very aware of them. And I want to say thank you to the AFL and the NRL for their immediate and positive response to ensuring that they will take all necessary steps is humanly practicable to make sure there are no tickets being sold to Victorians, particularly Melbournites and the hot spots."

This didn't age well! ?

Looks like we have the Dogs.

People are really whining about travelling to a neutral venue to play a winless team? I guess they'd rather play Freo at the MCG with no crowd, and have an extra away game later in the year.

All it means is that we will have a run of games at the MCG later in the season, possibly against the big Victorian teams, and hopefully in front of crowds. If so, there is a fair chance that we get some prime time coverage if we win some games in the meantime.

Playing Freo with some crowd on the Gold Coast depending on how many Qld Dee fans get there will be good for the team plus they get to play in nice warmish conditions with no dew. Should assist in show casing our skills !!!

I spoke to my happy Garry Baker avatar and said he salutes your optimism, fully agrees that a midday game at the G at Metricon will be perfect for us and predicts a 37 point win.

Another winnable game.
lock in a 4-2 record by round 7

and yes I have been drinking

Bulldogs at the G in round 7, we at least have avoided the hub for now...

What hub?

We won't be in another probably as we have already done 5 away games  West Coast Carlton Essendon Sydney and Freo at a max there are 4 more away games maybe 3 so either 6 or 7 games will be at home MCG fir the rest of the season.

They will qualify fir the $180/200 rebate from the MCC which is a godsend.

Hopefully the Tigers Pies Hawks and even Saints  games and maybe a crowd can come but unless over 25,000 forget any profit.Maybe Port at Alice Springs  a good result !

It is a season they we must start by showing we are up and about and Sunday would be an ideal start. A win over the Cats puts them 1_3 and we are 2-1.

Freo Sydney and Cats plus Dogs  is a 3-1 Chance. Let's get our act together Dees in 2020 and show we are serious.

No judgement here. Given our performance over many years, alcohol consumption and addiction to serious pain medication are forgiven.

Updating the tally of interstate games for Victorian clubs to end of Round 7:

  1. St Kilda - 0 (just Marvel and the MCG for their first seven games)
  2. Carlton - 1 (plus Geelong)
  3. North Melbourne - 1
  4. Essendon - 1
  5. Richmond - 1
  6. Bulldogs - 1
  7. Hawthorn - 1 (plus Geelong)
  8. Geelong - 2
  9. Collingwood - 2
  10. Melbourne - 3

And on the home/away ledger:

  1. Essendon - 5-2
  2. Carlton - 4-3
  3. Collingwood - 4-3
  4. Geelong - 4-3 (one home game in Perth)
  5. North - 4-3
  6. St Kilda - 4-3
  7. Hawthorn - 3-4
  8. Richmond - 3-4
  9. Bulldogs - 3-4
  10. Melbourne - 2-5

Based on the above, you would have to think that Essendon, Carlton, St Kilda and North are all ripe to be sent to hubs in the second half of the year (minimal interstate travel so far, and all having already had a decent number of home games in their home state).

In hindsight, playing that game in Perth in round one has been a blessing. No hub for us and especially now crowds are welcomed back in WA.

A Red Jaguar.?  or Black.?

We're having dystopian visions (a la Maxwell Rockatansky) of the apocalyptic 2020 footy season. So a Jag may be difficult to keep on the road, a HQ Monaro or a Falcon XB GT is preferred. Custom spray-painted with a suitably designed racy motif. Red and MFC deep navy Blue colour scheme.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
