Wonder if O Mac is in consideration for this week. I’d like to think so at least. May on Hawkins most likely, Smith about 10 cms shorter than Ratu, or do we play Lever on Ratu?

I can't imagine off the back of an intraclub match they will be making many if any changes. The only one I can see happening is Brown in for Hannan. Just on Hannan's selection for last round was there any word in particular as to what had prompted his selections? I do see him being (somehow) squeezed into the best 22 when he's fit but we hadn't really heard much about his progress and then *boom* there he was.

There are two big differences this year in the way we understand how our players are tracking. Firstly, we get virtually no training reports from Demonlanders. While our crew are not impartial and don't always agree with each other, they are more "honest" in their assessments than any club reports on training. Secondly, there is no seconds competition on which to measure a player's performance. Accordingly, any player might be pushing for selection and we wouldn't know it.

No, i doubt it very much.

I was in the zoom session with Mahoney last week and he was asked about the back line structure and whether it would be a horses for courses arrangement (eg bring in a big for a team withe multiple talls).

His answer was no, not at the moment and that they were looking at a smaller, more mobile defensive set up and they were going to give the unit picked in the blues game time to build synergy and that May and Lever together would be key.

Unless there is an injury i very much doubt they will any changes to the side.

In fact i would have thought the fact that Hannan and VDB had the chance of a competitive hit out would have cemented their sport rather an opening the door for Brown (who plays different game to both of them in any case - he might only come in if Fritter gets injured)

Great, does that mean Smith is going to stay in the backline?

That said, he could actually be a perfect match-up on Gary Rohan.  Nev to Ablett, May to Hawkins, Lever to the Rat.

I continually say, head to head I think we match up better than Geelong.

Yes, he confirmed Smith would remain in the backline. Said they like his versatility, athleticism and closing speed.

Asked about him flying  for balls he should have stayed down on, mahoney said he got a bit too excited.

Maybe they should give him a mogadon right before the cat's game.

Or if the music he listening to is bit too amped make him listen to Brian Eno's classic album Ambient 1/Music for airports instead

Besides a win I want nothing more than to see Trac give Dangerflield a flogging.

Dropping him flat would be equally enjoyable, though. Capping that off in the first quarter, he could dominate him across the rest of the game - coz Dangerfield is a softie after a knock or two.

We put TMac on Ratu. May on Hawkins, Lever left to intercept freely. Smith the play utility backman across the game, where needed. OMac to open the chewy packets and cut up the oranges, please.

I heard he’ll be spending time on Hawkins and Rataguela.

It is a good dose of comedy; however and unfortunately, with Goodwin as Coach, it might just be a reality!

We should've kept Frost. End of story.

The reason we let him go is because he was going to play at Casey at the expense of May and Lever being in the side- was the accepted consensus. That's a poor reason as he's not far off May and every bit as good as Lever as an AFL footballer.

I'm surprised his shut down job on Ben Brown in round 23 last year didn't trigger the minds of the MFC brains trust that he should have been a priority signing.

He's been outstanding for Hawthorn in their 3 games. Probably because that mob has a far better coach and a far better list management.

It will be a game of structures.  We need to win the clearance (or at least slow it down for Cats) to allow the defensive setup to work.  The idea of winning the contest and fast delivery to disrupt their Defensive structure makes sense.  The. Defense must be resolute the kick before it gets to the key forwards for this to work.  We dont need to change the squad, just need the squad to deliver....

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
