On the other hand, like the work of an alchemist, premiership points do turn into ratings.

which turn into increased sponsorships

Given up until coronavirus we were going to be playing GWS I think this draw has become favourable for us. Really 3 out of 4 should be near enough to 50/50, if we can get some momentum from wins over the Blues and bombers then the cats at the G might be a chance.

I’d take us being 3-2 by the end of this. Good to have some footy to look forward to!

Footy is (almost) back. Love it.

Mark my words, (limited) crowed will be back before the end of the season too.

The irony is that if the power clubs travel interstate this year they will be compensated next year by home games with massive dollar paying crowds.

A wonderful pea and thimble trick

There it is, in black and white

““It certainly will allow for (Essendon and Collingwood to play in Geelong) in the fixture,” AFL fixtures boss Travis Auld said.

“Historically, we put constraints in the fixture process so those things can’t occur because the crowds just don’t fit into that venue and too many supporters get locked out.”

Bit of bullishness on this thread today . . . quick question . . . who's going to kick our goals?

It is a decent outcome but IMHO all the games should be FTA.  I don't have Foxtel and my Sony Smart TV is only a couple of years old but is not Android so doesn't support Kayo.  If this was a normal season I would definitely be going to this match - I'm willing to pay for that but not Foxtel.  How am I supposed to see this match?

If you're a Telstra customer I would be putting it on them to include Telstra TV box in your bundle. Otherwise you can stream straight to your computer with your log in codes.

Fristch

Petracca

melksham

t Mac

even spread from these guys i reckon. Kozzie pitching in too

Why are the Quarters shorter?

Why do the Custodians of the game keep changing rules?

Late Quarter Goals can be huge.

This should be the norm, especially for geelong games. I get why north/Hawks don't want to host bigger clubs (same reason we wouldn't want to host Collingwood in Darwin) but there is no reason why the shouldn't go to Geelong. Geelong wants to play them there it's the AFL forcing these games to be played at the MCG.

MAGPIES AND BOMBERS ARE LIKELY TO PLAY AWAY GAMES IN GEELONG AND TASMANIA IN 2020

How lovely for them! They'll get to see parts of the world they've never seen before.

love to host them up there.

The NT govt would pay millions.

Would prefer Alice. It would be bigger than QB as a national event

Should finish 4 - 1 on top with a huge % at the end of round 5. I'd be happy with that.

Should be 4-1 based on the form of a month of footy 20 months ago? ?

Round 2 the Harley Bennell vs Jack Martin show?

How many more goals than Bennell does Martin have to kick to justify the difference in outlay?

By my calculations its at least 50 to Bennell's one.

Great winnable draw. Very happy to avoid Richmond, Collingwood and GWS. Could be a great chance to get the season off to a good start (well re-start, lets ignore Round 1).

Sunday afternoon is a good time slot for TV. Especially now the weather is mostly awful, and we are still living with restrictions. And to have 3 of our 4 games on FTA is a win. Saints get none!

Well I don't know it will interfere with our limited skiing schedule?.

A premiership team needs to start the season we'll continue winning with certainty and finish the job with wins entering the finals with confidence in game plan and abilities of individuals and team.

Good question. Two possible answers:

1. Because shorter quarters were used in Round 1 and it keeps the game format the same for the whole season

2. Because at some time during the rest of the season there might be a need to schedule games with shorter turn-around times

My own view is that I don't believe (1) above is relevant but (2) might be, although the game could be played "full length" now and shortened should the need arise.

That will be AFL House Reasoning, i agree.
But Hollow. There is nothing in it

Red Time (Time on) is often when the game is at its most exciting.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
