1. Belief: in themselves and the game plan

2. Luck with injuries

That's it

Yep. Luck aside, it's all between the ears now. We have the cattle.

Look at Richmond...  I still cant bring myself to consider their players of the last few seasons as actually being any good.

Outside of the "Big 4" the core group has been the same bunch of players that many would have considered fairly ordinary pre-2017.

Now look at them. They have belief, a good system, ridiculous luck with injuries (and the MRP) and they are flying.

That can be us.

When we start to think we have it all,  then we learn the hard lesson,  that we did not.

When you think,  we're there',  that's the danger sign before dropping back.   This recipe,  for becoming complacent.

We need a half forward. Are we making a play for Jeremy Cameron? Is Weid going to become a footballer? Now is the time to do something.

I agree

I think our list is thereabouts but it's missing 1 maybe even 2 genuine stars who can break a game apart like Martin or Dangerfield.

I understand these players don't grow on trees but that's just the reality.

Otherwise we need another clone of Bayley Fritsch or Trac - these two are so important. They both have to have big years for us to play finals

Trac to be our Jarman/Burgoyne.

Pickett our Rioli

Ffritta our Hudson

Dont know if we have a Dusty, would like someone to convince Brayshaw.

Darcy Fogarty

This is the fella we have to make a BIG play for,  before he gets too established.

We have no one of that ilk on our list,  to come anywhere near those guys.

When Weide becomes more comfortable playing as the number 2 tall, I think he will eventually be the deep tall.  And at that stage,  TMc can move up higher to CHF.

In the meantime,  Darcy Fogarty would be my next in line to have in  Red n Blue,  as an up'n'comer.   I'd throw the kitchen sink in his direction.  Never mind Trac.

Native of Glenelg though.... Might be hard to pry away. Cameron is from Dartmoor, if I'm not wrong, and barracked for Demons as a kid, if I'm not wrong again...

A good run with injuries and a few more players with good foot skills. I don't think we're as far away as some are saying. It just needs to click.

Also, I'm ok with a kick long game plan but those kicks need to penetrate. We saw this last Sunday - when Viney kicked the ball forward, those kicks were long and flat and the ball ended up on the ground where we had a chance. On the flipside, when Hibbo kicked the ball I50, it gave the interceptors far too much time to set up.

Yes,  but Pry away,  we must.

Genius :)

One thing.

We have to fix the disconnect between our midfield and our forward line.

do we have a forward line these days....certainly not our strength

Fritsch, TMac , Weideman, Melksham, Jones, Brown, Pickett etc.. are all capable of kicking goals if we get it in their hands.

The bit about the game plan is still problematic

When Hib kicks the ball, the oppo defenders can go off on interchange, get a rubdown and a gatorade and come back on refreshed and ready for the spoil or intercept mark.

I remember hearing a Richmond player back in 2017 say beating Melbourne Anzac eve after being down at 3/4 time was a big turning point in building their belief.

I remember the game really well as Melbourne was 2 or 3 goals up going into the last, with 3 or 4 players sitting injured on the bench, and 3 minutes into the last quarter could see the Demons had no run, as a few players had been off injured since 1st and 2nd quarter.
Beating the 9th team with players injured on the bench was the win that gave the Tigers belief!!!!

All I hope for is that a win like that builds the belief for the Demons! Remember Richmond we’re hammered for no leaders, failed under pressure etc etc.

Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, May and our top 16 players aren’t that far away! Something that builds belief and that X factor that gets the ball being delivered well into the forward line could make the difference for the Demons.

I'm still hoping that both Vanders and Benell can get over their injuries.

Plus getting as most games as possible into Jackson, would help out forward line.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.
