Just our luck that the year we have two genuine home game blockbusters that the coronavirus is going to diminish crowd numbers.

Last year we had neither Anzac Eve or QB and blew a $1.5 million hole in the accounts because the supposed big drawing home games came at the end of the year when the season was shot.

Even if the virus is contained both our blockbusters will suffer lower numbers, maybe 40,000 instead of the anticipated 65,000-plus if the behaviour of the past week is any guide to the resilience and public spiritedness of Australians (Hint; there is none.)

So the heat should be on those who sit on the fence every year waiting to see how the season unfolds, and also the estimated 10,000 MCC members who still resist buying even a token membership to do for this club what they demand of the players: go hard and go often.

Time to buy a membership folks because the club budget is probably blown without you.

NB: Moderators, I didn't put this in the Coronavirus thread because that derailed some time ago.

And, as I keep saying, the cost of a membership equates to something like the cost of one cup of coffee per week; surely there are very few who could not afford that.

Every individual has the right to decide what happens with their money.

People will prioritise what happens with their coin, and with the absolute hysteria in the world atm, i can completely understand things like memberships being "de-prioritised" Panic makes people do some very strange things.

I get the sentiment ofc, but MFC's financial fortunes wont matter to many except the rusted on die-hards. Your point about our blockbusters is a good one, but we arent there YET....

I have had similar concerns. But the T20 final Sunday still clocked over 85000 in the peak of the great toilet paper panic. I think there will be a dip in attendance over the early parts of the year but I'd expect it to be in the range of 5-10% not 30-35%

I've been a member for 35 years, but I in no way judge others for how they choose to spend their money, particularly in light of the disgraceful efforts on and off field last year.  This club has got a lot of work to do to redeem itself in the eyes of many.

No but he has a stockpile of thoughts and prayers ready to roll if things get real tough.

MFC is not a good value proposition as a member. We rarely perform and have a history of just going through the motions. Harsh but true.

Generational change is facing the club as the supporters of the sixties move on (or under). Sustained success is the only remedy and the odds of that in a controlled comp are low.

Our saviour will be population growth but there will be bumps such as lower TV rights along the way.

The percentages are going to depend heavily on how many Australians are infected by mid April. 
 

But people might go just for the TP!!!!

The club threw crap at all of us last year

if people want to gauge how the season goes before making any commitment, that is their choice

Yes it was a bad year but do you really think the Club was trying to pizz ever member and supporter off?

It was what it was, I will only judge the Club on what I've seen to date and that has been very positive from an endeavour point of view.

While I think it's every persons right to decide where to spend their hard earned, I do get a little churlish when those people won't commit to the Club but will continue to bad mouth it. If you can't or won't commit then I don't think your entitled to continually run down the Club.

I admire the sentiment in the title for this thread and the Pig and Chicken commitment analogue comes to mind.

I expect to receive the normal biased retort from some on here but I'm extraordinarily thick skinned.

and because excuses were made, continually it was allowed to continue. 
now i think big changes have occurred over the summer, but until the season starts, nothing is proven. 
if x amount of Members hold off until early in the season, good luck to them.

I was under the impression you were overseas on holidays swyl

I assume it is also expected that casual workers who could at any moment have zero income for a month should be ready to stump up the extra cash so that the AFL clubs and their desperately underpaid players don't need to make sacrifices?

Otherwise they just aren't committed enough, obviously.

So many people love insisting that everyone else should have the same priorities as themselves.

Each to their own I suppose but If I was anywhere on holidays for enjoyment demonland would be the last place I would be on. 

Morse code still works pretty well, prying eyes can't spy on you.

If paid incrementally, it can cost as little as 2 cappuccinos a month. Withholding such a small pittance out of "principal" isn't noble, it's ridiculous. Memberships are the lifeblood of every club in so many ways, but I guess the people that do this think they're bigger than the club so the narrative fits I guess.

I go away all the time. A holiday for me is not a packaged tour, sightseeing stuff i really don’t care about.

Didn't suggest in my post that they bothered me, I was just curious why you were posting so much when on holidays.

I have never been on a packaged tour ever, I could think of nothing worse.

What I did mean was I don't think it was done deliberately (poorly and unsatisfactorily, yes) . Maybe it is an effect of what I've done in my life but I live in the now, not in the past. I have hopes for the future and want to see the Club succeed not just for myself but for those committed and not just involved.

I'm not sure but I feel that you may think some of what I wrote was directed at you. That's not the case, you should know by now that I'm not that subtle.
