Well colour me surprised. 

Demon Jack Viney was also looked at for a dangerous tackle on Hawk Ben Stratton but is free to play in round one when Melbourne clash with West Coast at Perth's Optus Stadium.

“We certainly believed that it sat in the guidelines [as] a dangerous tackle,” Christian said of Viney’s tackle, which [we] ultimately viewed to be of insufficient force to constitute a reportable offence.

“It was a rotating, forceful driving motion which we believe was a dangerous tackle. A free kick should have been paid. Once we determine it’s a careless action, we then go to impact. There needs to be more than negligible impact to sustain a charge.

    Great. I forgot to worry about this.

    When I saw it I thought what else was JV supposed to do? A suspension would have been misguided which is probably why I should've worried about it.

    The game has become so sanitised and its going to get worse.More free kicks should be paid for dangerous play,that would stop the usual culprits

    The Melksham one is the baffling one for me. Two blokes run head first into each other and one of them gets plucked out for a 2k fine... Bizarre.

    I rarely defend the AFL, but reading about the scary (and still largely unknown) post-career effects of repeated concussions on athletes, I've changed my tune on this issue. It's worth reading recent news interviews with our own Shaun Smith for an insight into the impacts it can have. The AFL have no choice but to take action to reduce the risks, and I think they're heading in the right direction with this one. The key is applying the rules consistently (no doubt this is where they will fail).

    I didn’t know that.  I watched the game.  That is pure bull [censored]. Who copped the fine?

    He did run past the ball though 'Nev', not by a lot but enough.

    ...was a bit lucky no damage was done except to his pocket.

    If you run past the ball and collect an opponent in the head no matter if it's an accident you are lucky not to get weeks.

    what would Sidney Stack have received if Viney had have been concussed from the bump he dished out? Genuine question....I have no issue with Stack's bump, it was perfectly executed. But, the media were quick to scrutinise Jack for the potential harm a tackle 'could have' caused. If we are heading down that road, its arguable that every bump and/or tackle is in trouble. This is like the old 'attempted striking' debate. There was a reason why they got rid of it. It's a can of worms. Maybe if the umpires were quicker to blow the whistle and stop play sooner there wouldn't be these issues. Hawthorn, in particular' were given an eternity to 'get the ball out' the other night. I understand the AFL want the game to flow, but by allowing the tackled player too much time to dispose of the football, you are forcing players to drive their opponents into the turf, so as to ensure the ball doesn't come out. Just my take.

      A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

      Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
