Unsurprising he considered leaving. Unsurprising we offered him a one year contract. Let's be honest: this year is very much a "one last shot" for Jones. A legacy contract.

He broke my heart by throwing away the win in the final game of the season against North.

He was very ordinary last year. Loyalty aside.
i am hoping he finds it hard to get a game in 2020

A star in a shocking team under zero pressure. Pressure gauge went up a notch after a finals year and the more experienced players buckled. Hard. 2020 is a changing of the guard.

Jones was never a star. Loyal and a very hard worker yes

A changing of the guard like in 1987. Flower,  Moore and a few others who were fixtures through years of inertia moved on. Flower could have easily gone another season or two but knew his time was up even though he was finally tasting finals success with more on offer. Was our leading goal kicker with 47 goals that season and was still contributing unlike Jones who had a very ordinary season in 2019  at same age and similar games tally and should have made the hard decision.

Chunk has been a loyal servant of the club but his last season was deplorable.

If he plays like that this yr I don’t think he will get to the 300 game mark tbh.

Reading that the contract negotiations for 2020 were protracted after a mediocre 2019 gives me the impression he wasn’t inclined to give up anything and his personal interests came first.

amazing how fast the love disappears for players near the end of their careers! Jonesy was never a star of the game but he well may have been at least pushing that tag if he was playing w a finals team,  where he wasn’t always expected to be the main battering ram . He sacrificed a lot to lead and stay w us...in the darkest of dark times. I still feel big gratitude to him.

Jones was a star in our team with zero support.  The only bloke that would crack in every game.  Jones’s development was hindered because he was drafted by the MFC and not a professional outfit during the peak of Jones’s career.

I would have loved to see him in Geelongs team in Lieu of Selwood.

You have called Jones an ordinary footballer far to often mate.

It was a nice insight. But not convinced he is mentally there for another go around. Like I said above, it's a legacy contract. He looks burned out after 2019. IMO he'll be in the squad for the first few round but will slowly be rotated out.

Some people don't know what a good hard footballer looks like and loyalty goes a long way too.

And, if we're improving, this shouldn't be a surprise.

Jonesy loves the club and I'll always be thankful for what he has done, but we should start seeing others coming through as the season rolls on.

Having said that, if they find a role for him that works, then I still think he has enough left in the tank to give us something good.

You can think however you like, he is a blue collar hard worker

not elite. But if you think differently, fine

Actions are louder than words

I would suggest Jone's actions on the field have always been louder than any words

Watch a few replays from the last 2 years, Closely

a lot of jogging around from Jones, the game gets quicker every year

I was at a lot of the games I don't need to watch the replays, i know he has had  ups and downs like most players do, over his career he has always given it his best shot.

All true, and let's hope when he finally leaves the game, he does so on an appropriate note.

It would be a shame to have our last memories of Jones as a sad shadow of himself who played on one season too many. It's something he doesn't deserve, let alone the supporters.

Replays give you more close ups and different angles. His best shot over the last 2 years hasn’t been great. Many on here will call that harsh, but the top sides set a standard we have to get to
