Based on the fact that we were told there would be a significant announcement at the AGM which was 3 months ago and it didn't happen and Steven Smith's comment at the AGM that the club people involved were learning a lot about politics, joining the dots there seems to be a pretty serious glitch going on in the chance of this happening. Based on past comments the Caulfield stakeholders seem to be onboard so I'd be guessing the bankrupt Victorian State Govt don't want to contribute. Possibly there are other stakeholders as well that aren't contributing. First time in this process I've begun to wonder if this is actually going to happen.

So just tell us that.

For now, training at AAMI & Casey is quite acceptable. That doesn't mean we can't pursue nice, swish training facilities (whenever that might occur)

No training base is a guaranteed of success, but the ivory tower of our head office at the G isn’t totally connected they don’t get a direct feel of what’s going due to separation, Roffey disastrous radio interview reinforced that, players training across multiple venues, AAmi is shared … all 1-5% add up.

All spending though is a political decision.

It's not a vindictive question. There's no side malice, no hidden agendas it's just a very straightforward inquiry about something of general interest to footy followers and very much of interest to Melbourne supporters and Id imagine players and staff. It's possible the latter groups are privy to some non general release info but just atm other than something may happen at Caulfield There's really nothing. And thats a 'nothing' after being told 'something' was imminent and then crickets.

Quite frankly it's gone from why haven't we been told to.... what AREN'T you telling us !!

This - I'm tired of the hyperbole that our State Government is bankrupt. Being bankrupt means we can't pay our bills, which is clearly not the case.

My personal take is that the club is quiet re Caulfield at the direction of the State Government pending an announcement re funding. While there may be some finer details to sort out, I would expect the silence is more to do with timing an announcement with the election rather than any genuine blocker. You don't annoy members with silence for the sake of it unless you expect positive news, especially when you have a clean slate with a new Coach, CEO and President.

There's a pending state budget, so I think you'll find if there's something in there, we couldn't announce it until the Treasurer releases the budget papers.

“Negotiations with the state government are at a delicate stage” is about as close to an update from Guerra as we will get until it’s announced.

Caulfield is it.

I heard Guerra on SEN, reading between the lines, Caulfield is 'Go' but some things still need to be ironed out.

He was talking about a 3 to 5 year completion date.

The way Guerra was talking on trade night was if an announcement was coming soon … not a good look

There comes a point where you have to accept that AFL footballers are just too spoilt for their own good.

Firstly, only the first stage of the development has been finalised, so there is still plenty of work to be done on the facilities.

Secondly, football is still an outdoors sport, so there are going to be days when it is windy or it rains or is too hot.

This is a club that has been playing in Launceston of all places for 25 years, so it is a bit rich to be complaining because your training facility is exposed to wind at times.

Next they'll be complaining because they can't walk to work every day.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. Built on landfill and horribly exposed to the elements being on a hill and so open. Wait till they play AFLW games there, there could actually be nil all draws. Traffic getting in and out also an issue with little to no public transport.

I agree there was lot of chest beating going on. Brad Green was grinning like a school kid, he must have put a whoopie cushion on Guerra’s chair.

Seems that it is Caulfield or bust and state government funding is the hold up. We will have to keep being patient with the upcoming state budget and then the government will go into caretaker mode. Interesting there was no mention of the Federal Government…….only state.
