Fishermans Bend is  on the fringe of CBD and a greenfield site. With projections of 80,000 population public transport and road access will be provided to satisfy the development. Theres no station there yet but train, tram,  light rail can all be provided. Theres access from freeways and Port Melbourne access seems effective. Port Melbourne is part of the heritage link, as is the link to the existing Ron Barrassi Snr oval to the west between FB and  Docklands. Theres ample room for all facilities but it does require some bold and imaginative action. MFC has led the way in the past and can continue by reclaiming its place as the Melbourne team located between the Port and the CBD, not suburban linked.

I am curious as to what is "demon heartland" definition. I say we are "Melbourne" and should be aligning and promoting ourselves as such.

Im happy to hear all comments and look forward to more information being provided so an informed decision can be made. The feasibility study is a great process.

Caulfield is Not Demon heartland, I have proposed Port Melbournes homeground or even Murphy reserve This caulfield thing will be as Souless as VFL Park was eons ago. This is jumping at shadows stuff. Nup until viable options open up stay put

Caulfield has a train station...a big plus

If it goes ahead I'm sure they will.  But I doubt they'll be playing any games for premiership points/finals there should a ground be built.  But the women might. 😁

How would it work for spectators? I'm assuming the oval is some distance from the seating, with the race track in the middle?

I'm assuming they'd tart up Glen Huntly Park which is beside the track.  Otherwise the idea of an oval that could be used for matches would probably not be possible.

The Demons heartland as far as any exists outside the MCG is Brighton, Malvern, Glen Iris and Camberwell. Plus Bentleigh and surrounds.

Caulfield is right in the middle of that area.

You only have to look at the number of posters in this thread who live or have family nearby.

Trying to argue against this is somehow more nonsense than your Star Wars mumbo jumbo.

Those Port Melb options aren’t viable or desirable.

A brand new training facility might not have ‘soul’ but it might be really great for staff and players.

Caulfield per se may not necessarily be 'Demon Heartland' but nearby areas like Malvern, Malvern East, Glen Iris, Ormond, McKinnon, Bentleigh, Murrumbeena etc most definitely are. If you were to pick which LGAs have a really strong concentration of MFC Members/Supporters I would say Stonnington and Glen Eira would be top of the list.

Someone needs to post a photo of the CRRT master plan.

The ovals are in the southern half of the infield, they don’t look like spectator venues.

Hopefully they provide some cambering so there’s potential for small crowds for things like intraclubs but it doesn’t seem like it’s designed for aflw.

Having a home base within a short distance of the CBD will be a great selling point when trying to attract players, or even player retention.

Especially when it involves the best and most modern facilities in the AFL.

Think you are in the minority Picket and yes, I declare I live 10 minutes walk from the Racecourse.

I also note when we made the 21 GF, every second or third home seemed to have Melbourne colours adorned.

A main oval with spectator facilities here, the Admin and indoor training areas on the parcel next door to Glen Huntly Oval. A second MFC Oval inside the race course track and the cricket club displaced from Glen Huntly Oval to another oval inside the race track perimeter. That way you could get an AFLW & VFL ground. Incorporate some facilities that Glen Eira college next door can use and you will see a governmental funding component. Anyways, that is how I would approach it.

FWIIW. I reckon that the old stables at the south east corner could make a good site for admin, social and team amenities buildings.

The oval on Neerim Rd is used by Glen Eira in the ammos and can still remain. There should be enough room at the south end to construct spectator facilities so as not to interfere with the view of the racing.

All in all a promising option. And like Redleg, 15 mins walk from home.

i posted earlier in this thread i'm fairly certain, but a 2015 sun study said these were our top 10 supporter suburbs:

  6. Camberwell
  7. Richmond
  8. Malvern
  9. Kew
  10. Black Rock

(list source via reddit cos the sun's map is borked)

it may have shifted slightly since 2015, but as a stonnington resident, the whole of glen iris, malvern, toorak was decked out in dees colours in 2021

it was glorious

Which part are you querying, where I live, that so many Caulfield homes sported our colours for the 21 GF, or that you are in the minority on your view on the Caulfield Racecourse, as our future training base.

If it’s the last point, simply go back and count up the fors and againsts in this thread and it is clear.

Ah, thanks I didn't see the link to the master plan earlier.

Here's some screenshots from the plan for anyone else who'd like to visualise it:

This is a terrible take. If Caulfield was so soulless I guess it wouldn’t be able to host Spring Carnival racing, attracting huge crowds. It is literally across Dandenong Rd from our heartland suburbs and has a train station next door. It is hardly the end of the line. Of all options presented to date, this makes the most sense

Oh dear.....fellow Dlanders , I can't  help that some have this new Training Ground all wrong.

Is it..

A) about club facilities, player development,  bringing everything home ( well to A home )  i.e it's a Football/Admin kinda thing.

Or

B) about the supporter..about  deigning to postcode demographics ...about a 'choice' bar to socialise...

Here's the mail....it's  A ...all about A ... B...yeah nahhh..  not even a thing ..remotely.

This IS all about Training...and i dont mean...' next train arriving on platform 2 is... '

Wake up folks...its about THEM... not you..      You dont play...you dont do the books...

But hey....I'm sure you'd be ok to watch and grab a snag.

For comparison look at what Premier League clubs do... what NFL clubs do... etc etc... Its about player facilities.

Is there a way we can band together and start a gofundme to get you to stop carrying on about Fishermen’s Friends.

The club has a very real thing happening at Caulfield.

OK       no need for that.

Ill see what transpires at the AGM . Hope to see you there and you can convince me of my delusion.

The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024.
