Compared to?

I've spent some time at the Brisbane Showgrounds... its a very small oval for AFL games... would need major reconstruction to be even considered.

Any further updates on our Home Base?

Is it a "green light" for the Caulfield Racecourse?

We are working through amber, but should be green soon.

It is administered by a trust and community use is an indispensable factor.

Thanks for the update.  The “community use” aspect would surely be critical in getting funding as well. I guess what that means and who it serves are big questions.

There are probably bigger questions too, like lease or licence length, especially when you are spending a fortune to set it up.

We would never own the land.

Then how much of the area would we need and how often, more related to ovals etc.

Plenty of things to sort out.

Mr Leg it appears to me that while Caulfield is probably the best option I struggle with (a will we have a case that will satisfy a number of interested groups and ( b will it happen this decade it is only 10 weeks till the start of 2024. Seems we will be at Goschs for a long time yet.

I can assure you we will not be building full training/admin facilities in the next 10 weeks.

I can assure it too, fairly safely.

I am not surprised layzie. Casey/Goschs  it is for us. It is time we accepted it and got on with it. The rest are pipe dreams.

Watching an AFLW game

Lions have a very nice complex at Springfield. Assume it was fully funded by Qld government as Lions aren't flush with funds

Two ovals and the usual add ons

Ah good been busy cleaning Airbnb cottage just in to watch the Cup between laundry and gardening, No time to punt but have always taken time for CoxPlate day. We used to enjoy the trip to Money Valley when i lived in the city. Ran a foot race round the course whilw waiting for the traffic to clear. We called it the Crocks plate. Many fond memories.

Yes lease length will probably be an issue and the area inside the racecourse is governed by a trust. There is some land that is MRC owned on the perimeter of the racecourse as well. Will take time to work through the issues but Caulfield is the best bet for a single permanent home for the Demons for many reasons which have already been fleshed out in this thread.

Not if we don’t own the land, that could be absolutely diabolical in years to come….

Not loving the idea of Caulfield, it's a lot better than Casey but hardly as central as it should be.  The plusses include multiple train lines to get there, as well as a major arterial, and even trams for those that don't mind a walk at the end of it.

Also, it's a lot bloody closer than Cranbourne.

I'd certainly accept it as a short-term thing, but wouldn't it suit St Kilda or Hawthorn better (location-wise)?

My ideal would be for us to do some sort of deal with Port Melbourne to take over / share their facility.  Half the players seem to live around there (that's subjective, I know and am willing to be way off), it's bloody easy to get to (by car), central and in a far more vibrant area than the Caulfield Race Course.

Would be awesome if we could set up some sort of flotilla to provide transport for fans to/from Port Melbourne to the MCG.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
