So by the sounds of it we are going to end up with everything we wanted, virtually MCG sized ground, state of the art training facilities, Admin and FD combined in the one place. Function facilities for a Social Club and events. All in the MCG precinct.ย

Only issue is it's not what we expected if we were hoping for a permanent MFC owned stand aloneย facility. In the short term we don't have the cost of building our own standalone facility in the long term we don't have our own standalone facility.ย

Will be really interested to see what the deal ends up being are we just long term tenants like we are now or will they negotiate some sort of long term security to be there which isn't an exorbitant rent. From memory the whole club was going to be in AAMI but the rent was so exorbitant we had to split the Admin to the MCG where the MCC looked after us on rent.ย

How do you get any of that out of what has actually been officially announced? LH is 100% right, all this is is a bigger ground to train on. 'Training facilities' encompasses so much more than that and is not included. This is a nothing announcement and we still don't have one home.

The club didn't announce a new facility as Tom Browne forecast.ย  And while I appreciate the reporting byย @Gougaand @daisycutter, if correct why wouldn't the club say such.

Happily to await more info from the club to say it is more than a bigger paddock.

You're 100% correct

I think its a positive development. Not sure why the govt would bother tipping in to increase oval size if not part of a broader planย

Itโ€™s a development yes, but in the scheme of things makes very little tangible difference. Talk of an AAMI park redevelopment for an event (WWC) which is less than 2 years away is also just plain false

Why is it called Gosch's Paddock?
ย
ย
Known simply as 'Cow Paddock' backย in the 1870's when the land was used for grazing, nearer the turn of the century the land was leased by the Melbourne City Council to William Henry Gosch as a holding area for his local transport company's horses.

I think Pert has mentioned a few times that it will be the Victorian Government's announcement and they will decide the timing, not us.ย

I was hopeful today would be the day, but obviously not. Like others have suggested, there is no point announcing the oval upgrade unless it is part of a bigger plan. My mail is AAMI park will be upgraded/extended (in an east direction, over the carpark towards Gosh's Paddock) and this upgrade will accommodate our new rooms, gym, etc.ย

Hope we hearย it from the Government soon.ย  ย

Theyโ€™re moving a fence and weโ€™ve got people on here saying Pert and Roffeyย are heroes, letโ€™s get some perspective. Itโ€™s good news to get some investment regardless of the level but letโ€™s not make this out to be any more than it is.

If you think this isn't "more than it is" then you've missed the entire point.

Thanks.ย  I understand the club's predicament and the need to wait for gov't announcements.ย  ย I just didn't share the excitement today and felt I needed to explain why.

Re the AAMI park extension.ย  Do you know if it will bring our football and admin staff together rather than be split between AFMI and MCG and if the new facilities will be connected in some way to Gosch so that they don't have to lug gear back and forth?ย  I ask as past announcements by the Board have included these as deliverables..ย  I just hope that our goals aren't being watered down.

It's more than has been given to us for 150 years, so it is a big deal and it is a win for the club.

Why can't people takeย  the good news for what it is?

There is a lot of work still to be done, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't celebrate the wins along the way. It's like saying I won't be happy to win a H&A game because we haven't won the premiership.

It isnโ€™t more than it is until itโ€™s official and weโ€™re in the middle of a once in a generation pandemic that is draining the public purse. I have no doubt that this would be part of a multi phase approach and that itโ€™s likely an extension of existing facilities adjacent at AAMI Park, but until announced and official it isnโ€™t worth celebrating.ย

We've had no development on this front for years.

We get at least a step in the right direction and half of Demonland complains about it.

At absolute worst it is a positive because it is more than we previously had.

At best, as many have said, it is a sign of more to come: I would find it very difficult to accept that the AFL and the government would all stand there today to call a press conference with the MFC to announce these changes, and the MFC would tip in half a million of its own money, if there was even a small possibility we'd long term end up elsewhere.

I'm not sure if you were being serious, but I would be very disappointed if it lost the name of "Gosch's Paddock". There's something noble about preserving the history of the site for the league's oldest club. On the other hand, I'd love there to be a few rows of seating along one side which could be named "The Flower Stand".ย ย ย

Correct, money is super tight everywhere right? There's a hint in that then...

That's a big yesย on football and admin. The whole club will be under one roof.ย ย

To be fair I donโ€™t blame some posters for being sceptical. Itโ€™s not like there havenโ€™t been false dawns and botched announcements in the past.

Assume they'll just build over the carpark and it won't technically be an extension of AAMI Park as such?

Aerial-Drone-X2A-26.05.2019-1024x682.jpg

Finally we get a full size training ground for the menโ€™s and womenโ€™s training programs and judging from the cost involved it is much more than just moving the fence. There were a lot of head honchos involved including a Govt Minister, head of AFL and our CEO and President. I would have liked a bit more detail but happy to wait on what our Board have to say. We are on the rise and need to show a โ€œSteelyโ€ calm that is more befitting of a Club on the rise.

Go DEES. !!!!!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
