James Hird mentioned that Port Melbourne should be on the agenda and there's something that could be done there given Australia post have or are leaving the building next door to the ground.

The Australia Post site is probably worth a fortune. Who pays?

Just watched Paul Guerra get interviewed on Footy classified. Eddie Maguire suggested that Caulfield will be pushed back by 12 months with the Mt Scopus work.

James Hird mentioned that Port Melbourne should be on the agenda and there's something that could be done there given Australia post have or are leaving the building next door to the ground. He might be onto something that needs a closer look - not against it if a total solution can be done there and caulfield is delayed or compromised

Hird is on the staff at Port Melbourne so I imagine a lot of self interest in his comment. Only one oval as mentioned and a small one at that. No thanks.

OMG please don’t mention Port Melbourne again!

Can someone please outline what the Mt Scopus 'work' encompasses ?

Cheers

Mt Scopus is a school with cash to splash and is also looking to build facilities in Caufield as well, there is enough land for both organisations but due to legal planning mumbo jumbo it has affected our timeline

Port Phillip council buys Australia Post site for communi...

A large commercial site in Port Melbourne is set to be turned into a sport and recreation hub after it was snapped up by the City of Port Phillip for $38.8 million.

City of port Melbourne bought it for $38mill to turn it in to a community sports precinct at the end pf 2023. If Hirdy is mentioning it port melbourne fc would want it to be a footy based facility they can use as well, and secondly there must be some hurdles that having an AFL Tennant would help solve. Its a massive area

And reading through the article - they want to also take over the DHL facility over the back and the bunnings next door. Heaps of room for a 2nd oval or enlarging the current one in that case

Building an early learning, primary and secondary school from scratch. Currently MT Scopus is at Burwood but also has campuses at East St Kilda and Caulfied South. These will all be amalgamated at Caulfield.

If we were to change to Port Melb as prospective site, the delay would be more than 12 months.

And would probably see us chasing another Rabbit with no doubt many other funding / community hurdles to overcome over many years. And no guarantees even then. No thanks.

Most non-demon media hate the MFC so anything to put (or suggest) a further spanner in the works that holds back our potential success.

Re Mt Scopus... Truth or just scuttlebutt from Eddie eveywhere?

Even if true, surely there's room and scope to have an inclusive development happening here that works for both parties?

We seriously need to knock down any closed doors in the next few months and get Caulfield locked away.

By the time we wait for their works / development to finish, something else might pop its ugly head up.

Mt Scopus will build on freehold land already purchased from the MRC. The MFC will build on land leased from the CRRT.

Can't see why both developments can't be done somewhat in unison or why we should be held up in any plans.

They can and we aren’t.

The School is building on land it will own and MFC will build on leased Crown land. They are separate and distinct areas with the hope of some mutual benefit coming from the close proximity.

The school and Dees are delighted to work and exist together and I have that on the highest authority.

God?

That's correct Redleg - the only thing we absolutely need is access through to our proposed building site, which goes through the freehold land over which Mount Scopus holds an option to purchase from the MRC.

Don’t think anyone is suggesting that.

A little lower. I haven’t spoken to God about footy matters for a while.

Port Melbourne as our VFL side, ditch Casey win/win

C'mon Bub, the answer is right there in your question ... Eddie McMouth only seems to chip in when it seems there is something in it for the filth ... 😀

Need to focus on Caulfield Race Course and getting that done. That is the top priority for our Home Base.

However, Port Melbourne (at Fisherman's Bend?) could be a back-up plan, if there is the possibility of 2 ovals being built, but only if the Caulfield Race Course project utterly falls through for whatever reason.

Do Casey even exist as their own entity anymore? Thought we bought them out. Any shred of identity of the old Springvale Scorpions is dead and buried.

Of course... but WHAT is that

I watched the Guerra interview the other night on Footy Classified. I got the impression he wasn't across all of the new home base issues yet and also got the impression Eddie was just speculating about Mt Scopus and a supposed delay as well rather than having any real inside knowledge.

If the Dees get Caulfield up and running, it leaves Goschs Paddock as a second oval available for C'Wood (but Richmond would be interested as well I would have thought).

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
