Well I don't think I can argue against these points,  but "work for better levels and expectations," needs to be applied across the whole club.

Not just the players but admin, the management side, supporters, Selectors and Coaching.   I actually think Goodwin needs help, perhaps he should be overall Director of coaching but have someone help him on the Game Day.

Think for a moment,  if your playing some players out of position to give others a chance to grow,  in a position that suits the newbie with talent.

It has to appear like your methods and game style don't work,  and would you showoff your ideal game style to others,  if you are developing the new boys you might want to be ready for 2021 tilt.?

We are playing a plethora of small players,  and new players,  because of the age of our regulars of past recent seasons, and our aging leaders.

It's important to now bring kids into the team while those aging leaders are still around helping.  And I'll throw Maxy into that relm, as well. aging.

Our admin have done a lot correctly, imv, and have made mistakes as well;  but they are learning,  and we are the best off-field,  since I think the 80's.

Watching the replay.  Harley Bennell is the smoothest mover we have had at the club perhaps since Robbie Flower.

Despite 3 years out of the game he looks a level above out there.  His footy brain is elite.   Just wait until he heats up.

We would have beaten Geelong if he had played.

everything he does looks in slow motion but everyone around him seems even slower, CLASS!

Some of his touches was class. Plus when he had the ball time just slowed down.

He'll only get better which is scary.

Having effectively had 4 games in 5 years, I wonder if his body, other than his calves, is pretty fresh and will allow him to play several more years. Here’s hoping, as yes he is all class.

I was thinking today, if he is able to just maintain his current level but at 80%+ game time then he will be a good contributor with some brilliance at times. That would be a real positive for us and I’d be happy with that type of output.

I also believe he has some growth to go, how much I’m unsure but if he can get another 3 or 4 games straight into the body/mind I feel he can go to another level.

I doubt we’ll ever see him at his peak consistently again but if he can do so in our next 3 flags I’ll be ok with it...

It’s really good to see some of the real fans of other AFL clubs saying things like “his goal is the moment of the year”. I think most people appreciate his talent and the difficulties he’s face (both self inflicted and bad luck).

Another great step in the right direction, if he stays out on the park this year he will have a BOG game where he tears a team apart. Personally I hope it’s against either Freo (definitely some salt there!) or the Pies.

I'm impressed by the way he just scoops up the ball one handed under pressure and makes it look easy.

Has some nice dance moves to which mesmerize the opposition while he finds space and delivers to the advantage of a team mate.  It's a real skill to kick to the side/dangerous space  like he seems to do consistently and quite intentionally.

Would love to see Harley more as a deep forward option. He has that special ability to read the ball drop and can create goals by quick snaps and moving quickly through traffic.

The idea of him and Kozzy crumbing the ball deep in our forward 50 alongside Trac would generate a lot of extra scoring power we usually lack. Harley is capable of kicking 4 goals in a match.

So I thought He showed enough in his early games to make me think he can make this return a success but he has gone almost dead silent for quite a while. Does anyone know where he’s at and what the clubs plans are for him 2021 and beyond?

Situation apparently is that the club want him to build his fittness/running power and go to that next level he has in him.  Unless he breaks down in the process and calls it quits, I think he'll be a Demon again next year.  I was impressed enough with half fit Harley, the thought of us having him after a full tune up and firing on all cylinders again is salivating.

LoL a big footy rumour.... nothing “breaking” in the newspapers yet.

Yeah you'd think something would have broken by now.

Goodwin said in a recent interview he will be offered a contract for next year.

I get the feeling  his expectations on the amount and the MFC’s are some what different. I still believe that he has been told to run harder or you don’t play.

I could be wrong but I'm betting the odds of HB playing finals this year are better than some big footy rumour.

I stand by this... sign him up for 2021.   Full preseason is the key for HB.

Agree. He showed positive signs. The worry was him getting injured with a reoccurring injury but he got through and managed by Burgo. Sign him up for 2021.

I'd say the club has done the right thing by him all year.

What I mean by that is that we played him early in the season, managed him when we needed to and when we realised that it was going to take longer for him to regain some confidence in his body and build his fitness further, we left him out of the side with an eye to 2021.

If he can get through another pre-season then he'll be like a new recruit across our half forward line next season.  I hope we give him another year on base money so he can get another crack at it.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
