Subject to no major hiccups that's it then.  He wil be rookied in the SSP and on our list for 2020.  Fantastic news and fingers crossed he makes it through what will be a pretty long haul for an attempt at completing a custom pre-season.

If we get him on the park and performing at 80/90% by about Rnd 10 (or before) it's a fabulous coup for this club and great news for his career also.

Yeah, just look at how Dustin Martin dragged the Tigers down with him and his poor culture.

It was his penchant for throwing around cultural utensils that almost got him in trouble, though

Great news. Now to get his body right and get Martin across the line.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SOMEONE HELP ME UNDERSTAND WHY MARTIN IS IMPORTANT AND WHY IS IT THAT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT BENNELL, MARTIN IS HIS SIAMESE TWIN AND CANNOT BE SEPARATED?

Very happy to hear that he'll be joining us - it's a risk, but a calculated one with the potential to improve our list significantly.

New city, young family and a final chance at his AFL career will hopefully be enough to keep him on track.  Now all we need is that calf/nerve to behave and Burgess to spin a little magic and we'll be flying!

Bennell and Martin played together at the Suns. There is a school of thought that if they were friends up there it may encourage Martin to come to Melbourne as well.

Yes,, but what about the r'ship in particular b/w Bennell and Martin? Are they best mates?. KK and MAY were there also. Does Martin not have any other mates in the game?

Yep, great get by the club.

I have a feeling that, if everything goes well, that we won't see the best of him until 2021.  I'd say the club will nurture him through 2020 to ensure his body is right, and he may not play a whole lot until the second half of the season, with most games being at Casey.  Then we use this as a launching pad for 2021 where he will be terrific for us on a half forward flank.

Fingers crossed for a positive outcome!

Did you see our forward line last year? We need class to deliver inside 50 and that is why Martin is an important get. Bennell is unlikely to play much next year whilst Martin is entering his prime. We need class from round 1.

The linkage as previously mentioned is that they  played together and perhaps it could help him change his mind.

It's almost Monty Pythonesque.

Bennell states his desire to join our club.

We're then concerned about his mental state.

Club is showing some balls.:goody:

What I really like about this announcement is that Mahoney is very measured in the statement. No grand promises or fanfare - just...we’re happy to have him here, now let’s wait and see.

FWIW the source who told me that Bennell was committed to us also said tht the club are optimistic about his ability to play in 2020. The misdiagnosis by Freo was a disaster and held him back. They hope to start loading him and are hopeful that he will be ready to go early in the season.

As I have stated, this is all but a done deal. If Harley shows he is disciplined and can commit to the expectations of an AFL footballer, he will be a Dee after Xmas.

Train Hard, Fight Easy. Bennell is too good of a talent not to give a chance too, let’s just hope he’s learnt from his mistakes. Being out of WA will be the best thing for him. Good luck.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits. I apologize for skipping our annual season review show at the end of last season. After a disapponting season filled with off-field antics and a heated trade week, I needed a break. Thankfully, the offseason has recharged me, and I’m back—ready t

GAMEDAY: Match SIM vs North Melbourne

After an agonizingly long off-season the 2025 AFL Premiership Season is almost upon us and the Demons have their first practice hit out against the Kangaroos in a match simulation out at Arden Street.
