No to Weid.   I have Joel Smith in the team taking over the 'Frost' role.  Petty is a forward.  Bennell is a pipe dream at this point.

Good to see something speculative with some emerging talent.

So you clearly don't rate Weid, Smith, OMac, ANB, the Wagners or Hore.

Or the chances of Baker, Chandler, Lockhart and Dunkley?

I guess KK and Bennell stay njured?

The best thing is I do rate them. Chandler and O Mac the next most likely.

Any of them could play.

For the first time since we have had an affiliation with a VFL team every single player on the list is a chance except for Bradtke who is a category B rookie anyway.

Due to injuries I have Oscar in the team not a fan but not convinced with Smith's and Petty's pre season's.

Brown gets a go due to Petty's pre season.

Pickett comes in as the small forward.

Jackson comes in as the second ruck. Most teams are using second rucks so I think we should too.

Vandenberg and Hannan need time in the VFL to show that they can cope with the rigors of the AFL.

I fear Kolodjashnij won't play a game again, Bennell will always be a question mark and Preuss will miss the start of the season.

I find myself in the difficult position of being in agreement with Wdee. The exposed form as the season progresses will be fascinating.

I could see Jones replaced by Hannan, Brown by Petty or LJ and Hibberd by Lockhart. If the incumbents keep contributing to wins then they will be hard to remove.

Now to go touch a piece of wood.

Not even sure you can play 2 of Weed, LJ or Brown.

I think LJ will miss out develop him in the seconds.

Yeah I’d have to agree, LJ looks the goods but we are not in a position of needing to blood him so I reckon Casey will be where he finds himself early days. Interesting to think about Casey if him, Bradtke and Preuss are fit, that’s quite a bit of tall timbre. Throw in one of Weids or Brown as well as I can’t see a combo of Weids/Brown/TMac being used too often.

This is mine totally on form.

Good team but we need either Bedford or Pickett or both

The second poster in the off season to suggest Melksham isn't good enough to make the best 22.

Unless you guys are predicting a sudden downturn in form next year, Melksham would be one of the first picked. Infact, I'd go as far to say Melksham is the best kick at the club. Seen those inside 50 bullets he's capable of and the classy goals he kicks.

We sorely missed him last year as we slumped to a 2-8 record without him.

However he’s one of our worst set shots.

See his first miss on the weekend.

How good is the centre line of Langdon - Petracca/Oliver - Tomlinson?  This could be the fulcrum of the rise up the ladder.  Certainly as good as any centreline in the league.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

Concerningly, average attendances in 2024 were 2,660 fans per match, with the women’s game incurring an annual loss of approximately $50 million.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
