I saw all the videos on line but was disappointed that the charts referred to by speakers weren't shown. Looked like one static camera. I don't think that's good enough in this day and age.

No time frame given on when the working group reports findings to the Board.  I felt new facilities are a long way off.

Me too LH. Current system is home for some time. Interesting that Pert said he has discussed Goschs etc with FD. Asked them is the current facilities there affecting our on field performance. The answer was NO.

I like that structure in that it focus the development resources to each specific area.  Not so sure I like the lack of experience in our line coaches in Chaplin and Plapp.  Time will tell.

Not sure about a ruckman teaching forwards how to kick goals but there it is.

Only mv but apart from Lewis none of those names inspire a lot of confidence.

After this year's abysmal forward line result i am super dissapointed at the inaction in this area.  It was by far the biggest Achilles heal outside of the pre-season fiasco.

So Clarry, who only completed approx 23% of his programmed pre-season vs Gus for example at 43% , still managed to win the Bluey.

Another great example, Viney, who only managed 11% but still managed a reasonable contribution throughout the season.

Proving that set backs can be overcome and a fair portion of recovering from them is above the shoulders as Lewis alluded to in his exit interview.

I also notice the emphasis on "Roles in which player's STRENGTHS can thrive".

In other words don't play guys in positions they aren't so good at (or have very little experience with) or just not suited to, wherever possible.  Way too much experimenting here by Goody this season which, along with the lack of cohesion and consistency on the training track and alot of man power out through injury, also added to the mayhem and the overall mega fall from 2018.

Mainly the way the questioned was delivered:  agresssive tone, derogatory language, repetition of these by rewording them and the completely implausible accusation that the club keep Oscar so they can keep Tom.

The guy made a fool of himself and as he went on there were gasps, boos and the odd clap. 

I thought the panel handled it very well with Bartlett asking the audience to show respect to a person as they have a right to ask their questions and by Goodwin who briefly but convincingly stated his faith in Oscar.

I've seen similar comments made on here but I can't remember who it was.  I don't think it was the perennial Oscar non-fans; STMJ nor Pickett Fence.  I've never seen them talk of Oscar in the terms the fellow did last night.

Its worth mentioning that Burgess paid credit to Misson and his team.  Last year's preseason issues/surgeries were primarily contact related and not soft tissue.  The credit was well deserved despite many on here blaming Misson for so many things.

Mahoney also mentioned that our head doctor will become Manager of Medical or something similar.

 

Footnote:  while accepting the injuries were contact related what it says to me is that in 2017/2018 our aggressive crash/bash game plan wasn't suited to the then immature bodies.  That nearly all the contact injuries/surgeries were to players that have not been in the AFL long supports that view.

All credit to the battled hardened Lewis who completed 98% of the pre-season.

Agreed.  Its interesting that we didn't replace the Jennings 'strategy' role. 

There was a bit of talk on DL and some in the media that Yze was in the running but it didn't happen.  To me it is important as that person can stand back a little from day-to-day coaching.  I guess Goodwin and Richardson will do it but they already have a big gig to get us back up the ladder with a relatively inexperienced team to manage. 

Its interesting that we have made our AFLW and our VFL senior coaches Development Coaches for the mens' AFL team.  Nothing against Radford and Stinear but they are inexperienced in their new roles and at AFL level and have demanding jobs already, especially Radford who presumably has a full time job getting our VFL team a premiership.  So those guys will be working part time at best.

I like the new structure but I'm not convinced that we have strengthened our coaching panel, losing Macca, Jennings and Rawlings and only adding Richardson.  I'm guessing we lost 40-50 years coaching experience and gained about 15-20.  Tough gig for Goodwin who is still inexperienced himself.

I'm a renowned happy clapper so the informative midfield pre season graph is preaching to the converted.

It was interesting when Lamb was addressing the Frost trade he reeled off backline players but didn't mention Petty. Later on Goodwin said one experiments from the 2nd half of the season that worked and we'll  persist with is Petty forward.

Ironically for the first questioner that means we'll see plenty of OMac back in 2020.  @binman fortify your defences and sharpen your spears.

Also interesting was Jones small forward and Smith back.

You may be right but im not sure the final sentence above proves the point.

One im not sure it is accurate (ie some of the surgeries were wear and tear e.g. omac, a number of senior players had contact injuries eg melk, hannan, avb).

Two luck plays a big part in contact injuries.

Three, one year sample does not prove the point.

But none the less I agree the style took an obvious toll. But if that is the model goody wants the team to become second nature then it is the approach they had to employ.

I am sure we will see plenty of omac this year. And barring injury to him expect him to play most games. He is important to our structure. Will take an opposition big freeing up may and lever to be more aggressive and play ood their men. And his reliable kicking will be important. Would not be surprised to see him take a fair share of kick outs.

Had to laugh when I read who made the omac comments - an 'Ian' apparently. Funny because my name is Ian. I promise it wasn't me. Unless I've gone rogue.

On a serious note it is great that people at the forum and on here rightfully derided Ian's borish comments made in a public forum. Id love it if posters on dl considered this site a public forum and applied the same expectations of respectful criticism and comment.

On the number of games omac plays happy to take bets, with choice of avatar the stake. Which if I win will be a picture of omac. I'm 2 for 2 on such bets (Hi prodee and Dr d) so betting with the bank's money. So to speak.

Maybe Ian can put his money where his mouth is.

In defence of OMac critics we had to wait a year to hear from the club about the amount and seriousness of surgeries last year.

I havent been a critic of OMac other than noticing he couldnt get off the mark quickly.

Im not sure if it was used as I did not attend last night but it is a pet peeve of mine when the terms "We all know how bad..." are used to described incidents that DL could only guess at but were not confirmed by club officials. Acting as if you have missed the memo is an age old strategy to put one on the back foot.
