wow, Dylans highlights are by far the most impressove, reminds me of robbie flower

Yes Don that's what i was thinking when looking at his highlights.  He's about the same height also if the Norwood club site is correct.

The big difference for me is Dylan is more a ground ball player whereas Robbie had the aerial side as an added bonus...among other assets!

Apparently every club except Richmond has spoken to him.  Collingwood, West Coast, St Kilda, and Essendon are being a bit optimistic.  Crows his preferred choice but went to school in Melbourne for a few years and moving to Melbourne wouldn’t phase him.  I suspect he’ll end up at Crows at pick 4 or Freo at pick 7.  They need a couple of new wingers.

Crows would seem a likely fit.  Would they take him so high with the likes of Serong and Ash (for example) seemingly rated a tad higher though?

Sheehan highly respected in draft circles.

You say he is highly respected, but in this interview he says that we might trade Pick 3 for a couple of picks in the teens. (I wrote this in another thread, but it seemed relevant here too).

In terms of his knowledge base on the top 20 to 30 or so 247.

I don’t doubt that, I was just surprised that he said we might trade 3 for two picks in the teens.

Yep have to agree.  Not a great idea and strange thing to say after highlighting the attractions/strengths of Young & Flanders at 3.

I haven't listened to the interview so i'm taking your word that he wasn't asked about some rediculous scenario by Derwayne or someone and gave some answer that was tongue in cheek or being flippant.

Yeah I even went back to listen a 2nd time, to make sure I heard right lol

Poll shows that Young and Kemp are overwhelming favourites for our picks 3 and 8. I voted for both a couple of weeks ago and my view hasn’t changed.

Having a read through the draft threads on here, it still sounds like most are still wanting Young at 3 but have cooled on Kemp at 8 and I’m seeing Jackson and Stephens in particular rising in popularity.

Are there still plenty in the Young/Kemp camp or have some of you changed your mind and would change your vote now if you could?

Geez Stephens is quick and what we need. Wonder if we could turn him into a ground ball half forward like a Castagna type. Then later in career can play wing.

Why waste him as Half forward or winger   has on baller/goal kicker all over hi.

Just what we need on those highlights breaks lines has speed and challenges defenders and opponents alike.

Yes if there was a horse fir a course this guy stands out

Hopefully No 8 he is still available

I voted Young and Stephens when the poll opened. My view hasn’t changed. Both are amongst the most talented in the draft pool, have attributes we’re lacking, and could play early. Both have scope to become great footballers long term.

Wouldn't be unhappy with Kemp at 8 though. I think Stephens just shows great dash, agility, goal scoring ability, kicking and has already showed it against men in the SAFL.

Young is a lock at 3 for me, and that’s what I heard from a source weeks ago too.

If we grab both of those, we get Bennell up by about the half way mark ....

Add another genuine key forward to assist T-Mac if Weid doesn't come on by year's end.  Two quality smalls (assuming we don't split pick 8 and miss Kozzie).

Solid rebound this year with a potential finals stint.  All going well and those extra recruits at the end of 2020...premiership window well open in 2021.

I’ve been fully in the Young #3 (4 if Dees nominate Green) and Kemp at #8.

Young wins as pick 3 due to elite disposal and aerial marking. Need to build his body with AFL preseasons in the gym.
Given Kemp’s championship form, I would have seen him pick 3 if he’d been able to see out 2019. His injury means you have to just project how he will go after a year out. But his pace and strength are Dangerfield like.

I think Stephens is an excellent runner with a skilled left foot. Loves a goal. He’d probably go to the Crows with their first pick. However if Kemp was gone , he would be strong pick if he was still available at 8.

Firstly, I'm no expert. But after watching actual video of games, I considered who was the one player that really stood out. For me, it was Caleb Serong, he just seemed to have that star quality potential. He reminded me a bit of a young Toby Green, minus the attitude. The next pick has hard, but I chose Cody Weightman. He will be a serious goal kicker, and you can't have enough of them. It would change our whole forward line if we picked both of them, and I assume we could. But part of me, with pick 8, would like us to take Dylan Stephens. Outside mid, Gaff like but young, exactly what we need. I wouldn't mind at all if we used 8 on him.

Hnmm Pity we could do with someone Exactly like Toby Greene with ATTITUDE!!

I think Jackson is key to the draft. We trade up to 8 for someone. It would be big to take him at 3 but Freo could take him at 7.

If that happened we could bid Henry at 8 and swallow their pick 10 in the bid match. Freo would do well to trade 10 and 22 to us for 8. Then they could take Jackson, Robertson and cover Henry with later picks and some points deficit. That would be a great haul of WA players for them.

3, 10 and 22 would give us a nice spread.  It all depends on who we really like at 3 and 8.

FWIW, the SA U18 coach, Gould and Stephens all rate Pickett as the most talented player from SA in this years draft.  Apparently in school footy he was on a different level.

https://amp.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/brenton-phillips-labels-kysaiah-pickett-as-the-most-talented-sa-player-in-the-draft/news-story/9fbfdf650e1a6d6fd2963137ab1d4846
I wanted Young and Stephens, but if Stephens is gone at 8 a split to have a go at Picket and Weightman would be worth a go. You wouldn’t think either would go in the top 15.

i have not seen any clips of Kemp and what he could do, shame about that. of those videos i have seen both young and stephens appear to be standouts.  I would love to see stephens running off the half forward line, he has speed, skill, pace and knows where the goals are. i think he would be preferable to us going after a small forward as he could also play on the wing and rotate through the middle.

I think we will be taking Hayden young at pick 3 and Jackson at pick 8. and i'm personally very happy with that.

Jackson is capable of playing the Lobb role as the third key forward rotating through the middle and giving Max a break

and Young is just the best player outside of the top 2

I'm sure that by now, after 6 pages on here, Demonlanders have recommended /covered every permutation of draft selections possible. So someone on here has probably nailed it. Congrats.

Personally i'd keep 3 and 8 and pick the best available. Splitting picks, to me, would generally imply choosing players with lesser perceived ability, or at least players possibly requiring longer periods before they are AFL ready. But I'm happy to leave the selection to our experts, as I am certainly not one.

However, I am sorry that we still have about 3 weeks left of this  speculation before we are put out of our misery.

BigFooty are running their Phantom Draft at the moment, top 10 is:

1 - GC Rowell, 2 - GC Anderson, 3 - MEL Young, 4 - GWS Green (matched bid), 5 - ADE Flanders, 6 - SYD Jackson, 7 - FRE Stephens, 8 - MEL Serong, 9 - CAR Ash, 10 - FRE Robertson.

With this in mind, if Serong/Ash are still available at pick 8, do they get selected before Kemp?

Changing to

Pick 3  - Hayden Young   -  leadership, elite kicking, versatility

Pick 8 - Kysiah Pickett   -   X factor,  excitement machine, goal kicker, small crumbing forward

They're the two perfect players for our list.  We need their types desperately.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
