THE MYSTERY OF DRAFT PICK 3?

Getting Ben King or even Peter Wright from the Gold Coast Suns would be a massive coup.

If not, I am happy keeping pick 3# in the AFL National Draft.

I like the look of Hayden Young from the Dandenong Stingrays. The Demons are crying out for players who are excellent kicks with great decision making under pressure.

100% agree.

Youngs foot skills are exceptional.

So SEN reporting that the Hawks will go after Noah Anderson via pick 2. I hope those in AFL house have contemplated this and how unjust it would be to manipulate the draft so that the player we would have rightfully got will end up at the hawks..I just cannot swallow that.

Talk now of Picks 1 & 2 being on the trade  table. That’s one way to get established players up North.

‘Gold Coast list manager Craig Cameron says Picks 1 and 2 in the national draft aren’t off the trade table, with a former Sun calling on the club to trade both selections for two ready-made stars.’

Yeah I watched that one and thought geez he's very Whitfield like, maybe without the dual sided skills (one shank, one nice jab on the right) and an inch or two shorter. Would have to see whether he's up for the contested ball and if the pace holds up at AFL level but he's a very smooth outside runner and kicker.

I think the dream result would be to trade pick 3 for something like picks 10/12 and get Stephens and a forward/mid type player.

By the way I'm probably mad but just seeing Dom Barry involved a in those pieces of play....I still think he's too good for state league footy. 21 disposals at 86% and 26 goals....bring him over for a 3rd go at AFL footy?

Neither of these blokes scream pick 3. The best part was when then commentary got cut off in one clip half-way through 'Vic Country' to sound like 'the Vic [censored]' (I'm originally from South Australia so it's extra funny). I downloaded an article on the 'value of analytics' for work the other day but in the download tab it read 'The Value of [censored]' and my girlfriend kept asking me questions and wanted to know more. I can't believe we're back here scouring NAB footage for draft insights. I wanted Darcy Parish ahead of Clayton for the record so my opinion is as good as pointless, though I was all aboard the Petruccelle bus and still think that Harrison Petty basically single-handedly lost us that match against St Kilda last year and so probably also cost us the flag . Little known fact: Oliver and Parish have the exact same kicks-per-game average of 9.3 over their respective careers.

Yep agree with this even if we could squeeze into top 10 with one of them. The amount of different names being thrown around here for pick 3 would have you thinking we should be able to pick one of them up in top 10 and still be able to go and get a high quality small forward

We are not even on their radar CYB.  If it happens we would say nothing anyway.  The club is presently irrelevant and leaderless.

Good kick on both sides, strong mark, decent speed & can kick a goal

Meh, pretty average clip though it looks like it's taken from 1 game. Nothing that entices there though.

Now this kid looks kid, only concern would be size but he would look great on a wing.

The obvious caveat being this is the only tape I've seen of either of these kids.

Problem with highlight reels is they generally only show the best bits with team / player having possession or the parts where they are getting free for the easy receive etc.  You usually don't see their off the ball work or what's happening when the opp gets the ball.

A dangerous lure.  With that caveat and also not having witnessed any of these blokes first hand and missing many like Flanders and Green etc, Ash & Stephens look like handy players.  Particularly Stephens from a "what we need" on the outside/silk point of view but Ash is a cracker in this regard running off HB also.  Stephens looks like he would be closer to outside mid drifting medium HF type.  His burst break away speed is impressive.  A tad short maybe but finish/skills/smarts seem to be solid (albeit this is a mile off AFL obviously but same can be said of all rookie vision).

If we can trade down to pick 11 and 18 from GWS he would be absolutely as my first picks. Screams exactly what we have been missing for years.

Wouldyou still take a Smokey risk on him at pick 3? In terms of needs, I would.

Personally, I don't think we'll have Pick 3 anyway. Don't mind highlights, but they are just that "highlights." We never see the mistakes a player makes because the club is trying to sell their decision to the fans.

I get the feeling we are going to split the pick, i dont want to and im in the camp of Hayden Young, a good ball user of half back with natural pace and skill. Lachie Whitfield mould and would suit us perfectly.

Listening to the Cal Twomey from AFL.com.au this morning said its fairly even draft through to pick 30ish? he is confident of getting good players in that range and is why Dees, Saints and crows are all exploring the split pick sceanrio.

** Interestingly he also said next years crop is not rated that highly so doubts whether clubs would take a future second rounder in this trade period.

That first set-shot that almost went out on the full must have gotten those kinky buggers on the Melbourne selection committee salivating.

I really like the look of this kid.  I think there's some massive upside there.  I'm not sure we'd take him with pick three, but if we split it and downgrade a few spots he'd be a great get.

I would. He was starting to hit his straps when he went down and if he was able to get though the entirety of the U18 carnival, i reckon he would've easily pushed his name up to be equal to the likes of Ash and Young.

He's quick and explosive (hopefully that won't fade after he recovers from his ACL), takes a good grab, likes to throw his weight around and is a good kick.

Given the so called 'evenness' after the top 2 picks, i wouldn't be upset if we decided to take Kemp if we had pick 3.

Why would you want to bring in a rookie who will miss his first pre-season when there seems to be plenty of other fit "as talented" options?

Would want to be an outstanding talent.

Only in the way he moves. Seems a few clocks quicker than Mr Newton.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
