I believe it’s also a universal clause in assistants contract in the AFL.

I am sure you are right. Words and Sweeteners  He is highly regarded, that I do know

A fine line, hopefully for one more year...

Correct. If it's a senior gig, they can break the contract. Otherwise a good assistant in contract will be retained. Eg, Dew at Swans

Is this an educated guess? Have there been more positions vacated that have not been announced and consequently filled? How do you know this?

So many questions...

Contracts in the AFL are so easily broken now. It’s no big deal.

Going home to help break a 56 year drought is a significant pull. But he decided not too.

Fair enough. But I don’t think he will be shattered by it

It’s not actually so easy when there’s not mutuality (and acceptance) between the parties as to the underlying decision.

I.e. when one party intends to stick to/enforce the terms of the contract.

I expect that’s what’s happened here. It’s a real shame.

Yes I know that. But contracts are broken a lot more now than they used to be.

Of course you need 2 parties to agree, to at least some degree to make change.

We can wait another 12 months...

So as i see it the main positions are 2 senior assistants (Rawlings & Jennings). You are saying these have been filled? strange it has not been released, even at the B&F last night.

By god i hope they are reputable, innovative, strong, progressive coaches.

Yze is now interviewing for the Crows head coach job...

If Yze comes home to the Demons it will be as a Head Coach.

Seems a big jump to go for a head coach position this year. VERY highly rated of course, but was only what you would consider a 'senior assistant' this year. Going to the Crows in their current state with his limited experience could be a disaster for his coaching career IMO.

What I meant was that Yze's next role at a club will be as a senior coach. He'll either wait out the senior role at the Hawks or seek it elsewhere. I doubt he will go to another club (even the Dees) as an assistant.

It looks like whoever takes the Crows job has an uphill battle with all the players jumping ship.

I wouldn't discount him based on experience.  He's had more experience (7 years in a variety or roles through 3 premierships) than Goodwin when he joined the Demons (4 years at a flaky club) and some other first time coaches.

If he gets the senior coach at Adelaide they will put a mentor there with him.  Seems to be the go with first time coaches..

Yze was a part time coach until 2015 though. Backline coach for a couple of years, then strategy coach for 1 year.

Goodwin was an assistant coach for a few years, then senior assistant, then coach in waiting under Roos.

Obviously not rating them as the same potential, but Goodwin had far more senior experience when appointed head coach.

Many bridesmaids never get a gig.  As Rossy says, the ride is worth the fall.

We are a nervous lot, more concerned about what may happen after sticking your neck out.

My advice.  Take the crows job if it comes.

Nobody has Senior Experience as a Head Coach until they are actually in the chair. That includes Goodwin. He had brilliant training, that many don’t get and we still had to endure 2019.

Yze would be primed for his first gig...

Still hope he can make it back hone in future

Read the previous posts for context mate, talking about senior experience as in as a senior assistant.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
