Can we find 6 players please?

I think at this point it is very suitable to quote Bartleby the Scrivener.

"I'd prefer not to".

Sums up the situation, really.

I'll have a go:

6. Melksham - should have had 5 or 6 but at least was a target and did kick most of our score.

5. Brayshaw - worked harder than most and ran both ways

4. Oliver - he lets himself down on a number on fronts but finds the ball like few others

3. Lewis - can still use the ball well even though the game has passed him by

2. Gawn - gave our midfield opportunity for first use and despite Allir's first quarter was better than the Swans rucks for most of the game.  A shame that his season is probably now over.

1. Viney - it was one of Jack's softer games but he was better than the other 16 in red and blue.

Clearly back to the Neeld days, but at these times you have to look harder for gems.

6 Hibberd - Beat his man regularly and provided run and kicked well much of the night.

5 Lewis - Drifted out of it after half time but was the only player who disposed of the ball cleanly virtually the entire night.
4  Melksham - Our best (only) forward target all night,. Mixed it up playing from the goal square with Fritter (who flew for everything but took nothing) and Frosty (who made a solid cameo there in last quarter). 

3 Harmes - Couple of major howlers, but breaks line and takes mark (which is why Olly misses out here).

2 Gawn - Monstered Aliir all night but wasn't able to impact the scoreboard when he drifted forward.

1 Brayshaw - Tackled really strong early and looked composed, but when he went long couldn't find a forward ... because we don't have any you might say.

I’ll have a go, created an account for this.

Not sure of the order usually used but 6 being the best down to 1:

6 - Viney - Seemed to be one of the extremely rare few to actually give a damn all game, plenty of contested possies and his tackling was decent

5 - Brayshaw - had a real ugly start with a few of the usual hand balling/kicking to the other team but got back involved later in the game and seemed to play a little more like the Gus of old

4 - Gawny - not near his best but that’s still enough to place himself above the rest of the slackers

3 - Lewis - was composed with the footy out of the backline and without him we’d look even more lost

2 - Stretch - Very critical of this bloke usually but with the slim pickings this week I feel like his outside presence tonight was something we have been missing. If only it came from a talented afl level footballer every week

1 - Chandler - finally the young fella was always gonna give it a crack tonight. Loved his sneaky handball along the ground when under pressure. Just pushes Clarry out of the 6 this week

A midfield that gets smashed each weeks keeps dominating our votes, thats not right.  Melskam getting votes for kicking points  (most weren't hard kicks) - that is true "momentum killer" and if the kicks were anywhere else on the field would count as an ineffective disposal.  Gawn monsteted his opponent in the ruck because he didnt have one,  yet while not having an opponent didn't dominate around the ground.  Olliver gets a lot of the ball but also gives a lot of it away,  and though his rapid short handballs may hit the target (normally stationary) its really only transferring, and building, pressure; resulting in a turnover on the next play.  The forwards don't compete, the backs are loose and slow. Actually so is the midfield.

The reality is no one deserves votes, but as the phrase goes "put up or shut up" so:

Fritsch - takes game on and hits targets, most often to our advantage

Frost - beaten today, but he also is brave enough to take the game on, despite his skills, rather than taking the slow momentum killing safe options. Liked what he offered as a forward (leading at the ball carrier with pace)

Brayshaw - yes a midfielder, but at least he tackled (to the ground, not the  under 8s "hold and release" style our team prefers)

Lewis - to slow, which impacts skills and decision making; yet still top two in our team for both.

Jones - not a midfielder and suffers the same Lewis slowness ailment; but did show the team how to present as a moving target (I believe its called leading,  something other teams also do outside their forward line)

JkH - can't justify this apart from the fact he looked like he cared, and he's being played out of position; though that may because he doesn't have one.  I did see the potential for him to be a small lock down back in the vein of Neville Jetta.

To the midfield who got smashed yet again. Collectively win the selfish award. Why because they are all trying to get a kick and not doing the team thing and looking for cheapies and stats to make them look good. I was horrified the number of times team mates spoiled each other going for the same ball. 

Coaches -10 for overseeing this garbage and leaving us with absolutely no visible style or brand as they like to call it

Cannot put a fwd in who kicks 5 behinds ,mostly from set shots.

It was said last week that Treloar gained more metres IN THE FIRST QUARTER than Clarrie did gfor the whole game. If he got more constructive than accumltive we would be busy in September.

Although Hibberd got the ball a lot, he turned it over so often I couldn't put him in the best players. I may be a bit hard on Melksham, too, but I marked him down for his inaccurate kicking. That might be a bit unfair. The reality is that he had to take so many long shots because (a) there was no-one deeper for him to go to and (b) he would have frozen to death if he'd stayed deeper and waited for the ball to come to him.

Steven May did well considering the small amount of games he played. Love his polished kicking.

On those numbers, Lewis ranks 17th best. But in reality he is one of the few with a football brain and good disposal. 

Jones @ 10th is a complete mystery to me.

Salem played with a sore knee from the 1st quarter onwards. It was also why he was a bit slower than usual.

Also, Melksham's efficiency reflects the 5 behinds. But I don't blame him for that given he was kicking from the 50m so often as there was no-one closer to goal for him to kick to.

I understand LD, but this is one of many issues that out team is dealing with......Melksham is definately not to blame & I agree that his shots were from a long way out, but they shouldn't be. Players have clearly 'scrapped' the team orientated habits for their own personal welfare & this combined with our unsustainable game plan, is IMO, one of the reasons for our demise this year.

Not only do the players have plenty of work to do , but the change needs to start from the top , including the culture of our club.
