Out May injured, Baker

in Hore, Stretch

Maybe, but I think there's a future with Baker. I see no future with Corey Wagner, so I'd rather Stretch in for him. I'm not convinced about Stretch, either. But I'd like to give him the last two games to see if there's something there worth persevering with. So:

Out: May (inj), C Wagner (omit)

In: Hore, Stretch

I bumped into Marty Hore, his parents and some friends of his parents at The Convent in Abbotsford this arvo. (I was at the tail end of a bike ride.) They obviously called in there for a coffee after the Casey Match at Victoria Park.

When I realised who he was I said "hey you should have been playing yesterday" to which all of them (including Marty) replied YES !! (quite indignantly). Clearly not happy that Marty hadn't been selected.

A very nice young man.

Already been said but the fact that Hore wasn't picked last Saturday was unbelievable to say the least. Goes against the grain of a club that needs players who are 'in form' ATM. Best back-man we have at the moment, by a country mile. MFC continue to pick players that are either rushed back to soon from injury or horribly out of form & it stinks.

As supporters, we see it, so why cant the coaches see it.......is it not blatantly obvious?

The fact that over the hill players are still getting a game ahead of many youngsters when the outcome of the last few games is irrelevant suggests the coaches have a different agenda.

I understand the thinking, but if the season ended today I don't think there would be too many who would disagree with the club delisting Stretch.

So what do we stand to do to our list if we give him the last two finals-irrelevant games in a dead season? If he plays well, then what? I don't like the phrase "list clogging" but I fear that is the sort of position we'd be putting ourselves in if we give another contract to a player who has struggled all year but who impresses in the last two dead rubbers of the year.

I'd rather put the last two games into younger players who are certainties to be on the list and either in, or fighting for, a spot in the Round 1 side - e.g. Baker or Lockhart.

All part of the plan, all part of the bigger picture.

I cannot work out why people like Jordan and Chandler have not been played from a few weeks ago. Trial the young ones for next year. Put Chandler in the forward pocket and see what he can do but with 2 games left what is really the point.

I would Salem had a great first 11 weeks probably top 3 bnf worthy , his last 8/9 have been largely disappointing and his best asset, skill and poise seem to have gone missing, granted it would be hard in that side at the moment, but i think he has plateaued.

Gifting games to young players who can't consistently perform well at VFL level is how we got in this situation to begin with. Stretch and Corey Wagner can get 25-30 touches in the VFL, so let's pick Jordon who gets about 10-15? Or Chandler who I like as a little forward pocket but is good for 1 goal and 8 touches a game. Nope.

I like both of those players. Let's see them in the preseason games next year after a summer of hard work, not now. Plus they might have a Casey final to play if they beat Frankston and then get lucky.

Chandler is in.

Will replace Hunt from what I've heard.

Plus, Frost a very small chance to miss and Hore could be a sneaky chance to play forward.

Is Hunt injured or being dropped?

Was curious who'd win this race

Petracca 22
Hunt 20

Oh, yep, sorry should have clarified, I think he'll miss with injury, heard he didn't train today.

Frost left the track early with some kind of ankle issue I think.

Second hand info, so can't guarantee it.

Hunt stiff if dropped. He did very well on Rioli two weeks ago and again was used a small shut down defender against Pies.

Edit: Just saw your post directly above @Lord Nev, cheers.

I love the term list clogging

Never used to but Melbourne have made it into an artform

Oscar Baker has gone 8D /13D /8D in his last 3 weeks, no impact at all on the scoreboard. I think we have seen him this year, had a couple ok games, back to the 2s and keep learning the craft.

Hunt played in the forward line for the last quarter against Collingwood and I thought made an enormous difference. With him there, I saw movement which I hadn't seen in the first three quarters (Fritsch excepted). If it were up to me, and assuming Hunt is not injured, I'd be bringing in Chandler for Corey Wagner who's had a number of chances but failed to impress.

Hunt with the assist for OMacs first goal. What can't he do?

I didn’t see Hunt at training or at least all 15 minutes of it before they walked off and I got there at the advertised time 9.30! And Frost looked OK to me he only left a minute of so before the others started wandering off. A few low intensity drills in their respective squads ( forwards, mids, backs ) and some goal kicking. Jeffy running laps.

We really have to be very careful with our team selections now that our season’s well and truly cooked.

We don’t want some hack journo with an agenda coming up with a half-cocked conspiracy theory based on us dropping an out of form player that we’re tanking for draft picks.

Must be careful at this point of the season not to laugh at anything lest Adrian Anderson is brought back to investigate....

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
