Could he play the Aaron Vandenberg role?    Hard to see AVB playing again, though maybe the new fitness boss Darren Burgess can revive him.

Cant help it...he's  just slightly  more than another NQR hopeful.

Would fit in perfectly  well with current  mfc.

And  that's why I  don't want him.

I think an ‘NQR hopeful’ is a bit harsh BB. He’s played 24 games this season for GWS and is a good chance to play on the weekend in a Granny. Perhaps the argument will be that GWS can afford to carry him whereas we can’t, regardless I still think at AFL level you wouldn’t play 24 games in a season if you were NQR.

You're right, we should be going after Fyfe, Dangerfield, Kelly x2 etc. If we don't land any of these it's a(nother) complete failure by the MFC

It's a ridiculous comment, really. Just a bit of MFCSS from Bubs.

I've been thinking about this one a bit and he'd be very handy rotating from wing to high half forward, his height makes him a serious threat, playing on guys like Gaff if they aren't accountable he could become a serious offensive weapon drifting forward.

Not fast enough on what I've seen to mind Gaffp

I think he will be a good pick up. He is not a star but if he can replace someone in our starting 22 then what harm could it do. I believe we need to keep turning the list over till we get it right.

He’s a valuable player simply because he’s versitile, strong, mature and consistent.

Having players like that mean you can shift them from role to role as injuries take their toll on various parts of the ground while maintaining team balance and cohesion.

One issue (flaw) with several of our mids is they struggle to impact outside the midfield, so limit our flexibility to move them about.

Tomlinson will be good for us.

Sounds like ANB who likeTomlinson is also quick and flexible.

I hope Tomlinson offers a lot more than an ANB upgrade especially as we are keeping ANB.

Is he better than the Wagner's? Stretch? JKH? ANB? Frost? OMac?

If so it's a no brainer.

Well ‘our boy’ is named on the bench.  D’landers can voice their opinions ad nauseam of his performance post the GF.  Whether GWS win or lose, his experience will be valuable to his next employer.

I was being facetious.  The ANB like attributes listed for Tomlinson made him sound very vanilla.

I agree he is much better than all those mentioned.

I don't watch enough gws games to have an informed opinion about Tomlinson. I'll back in our recruiting team to make the right call.

But some of the comparisons and ratings on this thread are laughable. He has played almost every game for the giants for the last four years. In that time they have played finals every year, made 3 prelims and now a GF. And he has played all of them.

Wh aa t does that say about his ability? Or maybe people think he us a coaches favorite or has photos

Tom Browne still running with Tomlinson to Dees move.

All eyes will be on Adam today.

I know what you mean. He must be total trash. He'll never play in Melbourne's best 22...

The same posters who bag Tomlinson and our decision to bring him in also whinge about us playing ANB, the brothers Wagner and OMac. The club can’t win.

Have paid attention to this guy since the interest in him started.

Haven’t seen anything that makes me want him.

Himmelberg available?

Stinking it up in the GF, he looks a Melbourne player already.

Good to find out early he is not a big occasion player.

Like every other Giants player put there, is being overawed by the occasion.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
