We've already got the players, the problem is that we can't get them on the park, and in particular, we can't get them on the park together. e.g. basically our whole forward line from last year's finals is missing.

Apologist number 1 has dared show his face. Congrats

Our game has always depended on Gawn and midfielder dominance to make up for our forward deficiencies. So when Max gets towelled up in the last and our midfield gets beaten to the ball all our deficiencies look worse. All our last half goals were opportunistic, off the ground kicks etc. none from set plays to key forwards taking a mark etc. just don’t know where we go from here. So many deficiencies up forward, down back and now the midfield group seems to have been worked out.

Well demonland will go into meltdown after that performance. It was actually 85 points from turn overs 13 goals 7 behinds from turn overs. Can you actually coach a team to handle the pill that badly. With so many professional footballers unable to kick or hand ball to maintain possession it augurs badly for next year simply because there are so many of them we cannot clear them all out at the same time.

I also think it is time Goodwin ceased sending us the post match video. It is inane, densely and completely insincere because there is no improvement. I am embarrassed by this club.

ANB just disgraceful. At least 5 goals from his turnovers and inability to pick up the ball. Missed Lewis and Fritsch to cost us 2 certain goals.

he is part of Goodys SA crew though.

This is basically the same team that played finals last year. that had one of the best defenses last year. now look at us a shambles. All of our backmen want to either go for the mark or spoil usually in the same contest, spoiling our own players. Jones is not a backman, oscar is not a backman, frost while i like him turns the ball over, but then again which of our backmen did not.

Saints players cleared the ball so easily at stopages. our players just seemed to stand and watch them go. sadly i dont see a couple of early picks helping this team when they cannot defend, tackle, handball, or generally play football. 50+ years supporting this club and this is the crap they serve up year after year.

The dumbest footy team I have ever seen. Skills at junior level and that is being a bit unkind to the kids. We are really in a bad position. At least 8 players tonight are just not AFL players. OMac, Petty, Smith, Baker, ANB, Hunt, Jones and Wagners then the brain fades by Frost , Salem, Brayshaw, Lever. Bloody hell I have nearly mentioned every player.

NO LEADERSHIP either by Coach or the Captains.

We'll shift some magnets, play well until 3/4 and watch them kick away form 15 to 40 points and the turd polishers will pop up from out of the woodwork for the first time in 2 weeks and discuss all of the positive aspects of the match before dissappearing when we return to rubbish the week later. Rinse and repeat for a few years.

Basically the same as the 70s

we are road kill... if you watched the coverage last night we weren't even mentioned by the commentators as being  a bump in the Tiger's run home.

And that was before tonight's sh!te.

I am not interested in hearing any excuses. We have completely overrated our list. We are lead by a board who has no passion for the club. Goodwin is under the pump. The media are going To Come for him and rightly so. Levers kicking was [censored]. Putrid. The Wagner’s arebte same.

Thought Trac was good tonight.

He needs to stop his fade outs though. Goes missing for blocks.

What has happened to Gus and Jetta?

We are just not skilled enough for those chip kicks.

Some easy delists inc Omac, Jwag, Hunt and Tsmith. Jones to retire.

So many players just need to show some pride of club.

Jetta was good. Brayshaw is putrid. Insists on handballing to the opposition.

Would it have hurt to have continued Preuss footy development for the rest of the season.

Whoever made the decision to select Oscar McDonald needs to be sacked immediately. Absolutely unforgivable.

It was obvious the aints were targeting that match up all night. The entire football world knows he's a dud, except for our FD. Heads need to roll before we get fined another $500k

Almost word perfect substitute "select" for "recruit" and your spot on.

Gus & Viney slooow liabilities at this level against a strong through the body, quick burst speed centre line like the Aints or Essendrug now.  Anytime we meet them (or similar) we are toast.  Big M can get all the hit outs we like.  Useless if very few mids can get to the drop first other than Clarry and Harmes (when he plays through there).

We don't have enough off the line speed and structurally don't set up or offer dangerous options / outliers for the receive and give inside 50.

Our players in general are devoid of dispoal skills/confidence and belief.  Constantly giving it straight back to the opposition under pressure.  Jones, Lever and Frost fabulous examples this evening.  Not enough players with composure, evasive skills or finish/class.

ANBs torpedo (too high)  handball to Fritschkreig at the end there a great example of ordinary skills (turnover).  All other clubs that would have been a goal 29 out of 30 times.

We have serious list and coaching issues and the skills / structure issues start and end with Goody.  He has ruined this club's skills / structural disciplines & persists with his horrid chaos play on at all costs game style, which has sent us to the bottom.

We have no possession / tempo game style to counter a run on and cool down the opponent when they are hot, which means we are unable to maintain a lead at any stage of any match.

On top, outside of Tracc and Fritschkreig, our forward line is not AFL worthy or capable of kicking a winning score.

How many times do we see too many at the marking / spoiling contest and no one down for the spill.  Or doing same and ball spills out back for easy joe the goose?

How many times do we need to see too many chasing the ground ball and leaving an extra outlier or two of the opp's on the outside for the easy receive then off to the races??

How many times do we need to see a few players go up in a marking contest  and the ball spills to an opposition player who is just playing the basics (structure) front and square, grabs spilled ball kicking an easy goal or hitting targets inside 50.  How  often have you seen our blokes play front a square for the spill?  I can't recall it too often this season.

Easily the worst drilled/coached team in the AFL.

I cant see us finishing anywhere but bottom 6 again next year as Goody just keeps giving us more of the same rubbish week in and out and, outside of his control to a degree, there are just too many non-AFL level plodders and spuds on the list.

Hoping for better but preparing for plenty more misery under the present Goodwin game style, the pitiful skill levels, ill disiplined structures and the lack of a tempo/possession game.

bang on- can we really go into next season with same leaders and expect to do better? Just seem to have a losing mentality. If goody hasn’t been able to change that by now odds are he never will

Geez Gawn's insights into the post-match message from Goody are horrible.

Apparently we played well but couldn't finish off.

Apparently they DON'T KNOW why they get killed on transition.

Talking up the Richmond game, pretty much brushing off today.

What a soulless club.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
