You think the supporters "hoping" Goodwin goes after one poor year are mentally tough?  Please.

If he's the wrong man for the job, that will be on display in 2020.  At this stage, I look at 2018 and 2019 and have NFI if he's the right bloke.   I know one thing though, I'm not going to waste my headspace on all of these "ideal" head coach changes.

Agreed.

Goodwin like all coaches and human beings has his failings.

However, a little more courtesy toward our coach would not go astray.

You can question his game plan, but for goodness sake look at the depth of his list. Most of the current day coaches would have struggled.

As you say, it will all play out in 2020.

In answer to your question - 40 years.

I've only seen one poor year under Goodwin's regime though.  I'm more than happy to give him 2020 to show/prove it was/is something that won't happen again.

He will prove in 2020 if he's the man.

Time will tell.

2017 was quite poor in hindsight.

Here's a well written article in today's Guardian on Chris Scott.

It contains the following paragraph which is apposite to our coach.

"The language emanating from football clubs these days is softer, almost mystical. The days of the autocratic, raving lunatic driving a team towards a premiership are thankfully long past. You’d lose your young players if you carried on like that now. You’d probably have the police at your door. These days, many of the senior coaches speak like yoga instructors. Along with their players, they’ve embraced mindfulness and meditation. The key words at football clubs are “connection” and “vulnerability”. It’s the antitheses of how the previous generations of Australian men were raised, taught and coached. It’s refreshing, and it clearly works. "

Simon appeared quite distressed when being interviewed by a girl regarding the teams failings the other day, hope someone is looking out for him

I have absolutely no doubt that Goodwin is safe and will be coach for the whole of next season, another poor season then who knows. However, if Ross were to come to Melbourne I would spew, literally spew, track him down and spew on him.

Maybe Max can help you there, as Tom $ulky could attest. ???

I doubt a veteran like Ross would take on a place as toxic as the Crows right now unless they offer him amazing coin.

Hard to believe but culture wise they're in a worse state than we are right now.

Will take them weeks to go through the appointment phase.  Then there's the new coach's style/playing methods and player preferences.  He will have little time to assess before the draft.  What a shimozlle!

Disgruntled players will be leaving like rats out of a burning drain pipe i reckon.

A great time to raid them for a few morsels if they fit our bill.

Rusty - a very interesting mixed metaphor there. Burning drain pipe?  Pouring fuel on the ??

All i know from what i've seen and heard from that place is i would want out Mono.

I'm not sure but i might need a pipe of some sort if i couldn't!   Their top brass who signed off on all the nonsense on the camp are still in place!

Poor or disappointing?

both.

So we have Alan Richardson.

Then there is Brad Scott, Ross Lyon and Don Pyke available.

Surely one more senior head out of these three wouldn’t hurt for additional support? They’d be a substantial upgrade on the junior assistant and development coaches we have.

Anyone want Saturday's lotto numbers?

Yes now you're talking Moonie!

Wait, what if Goodwin WON Tattslotto and didn't need to work any more and just quit as coach!

Maybe you all should get the numbers off Moonie and buy a ticket and google it in to Goodwin so this can happen!

wowee - job done, problems solved!

So Adelaide sacked Pyke.

Has Goodwin been signed up by the Crows yet?

You're going to ask this every second day, aren't you Binman?

Note: I'm agreeing with you. I think this thread is stupid too.

That’s hardly long term.

This is a stupid to topic and I know a stupid topic when I see when because I sometimes post them too.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
