I reckon there will be plenty of speculation about it, but I doubt he makes the switch.

Having said that, would it surprise any of us if he made the move, knowing how strong his ties are to the Crows?  Probably not.

it would really surprise me. He is invested, whether we like it or not. I cant see him leaving. i can see Crows asking, but  not likely IMO.

Surely that is an over reaction.  How about looking green and bilious in his general direction....

I imagine that’s how most people look at him though. How about if I were to fart is his general direction?

If not goodwin, who? is the biog question that i think needs to be asked.

I don't like him as a bloke but Ross Lyon is gettable, his game style suits our list, he has a fantastic coaching record including grand final appearances with two clubs. maybe rebuilding isn't his thing but i reckon he'd get us back up the pointy end in 2020

Great post.  Lyon is seen by the industry as a coach that gets good teams up to GF level.  He does not take basket cases to do a re-build.

Note Saints and Freo.

He may see the Dees in this light. Good list that can be made great?

And the Roos and Pert links

If he got us to a granny and  the ultimate prize he could leave the list anyway he wants.

I just want a premiership before I’m dead.

I have absolutely no doubt that Goodwin is safe and will be coach for the whole of next season, another poor season then who knows. However, if Ross were to come to Melbourne I would spew, literally spew, track him down and spew on him.

I LOVE humourous hyperbole like this. Srsly, it's gloriously funny to read

Not very unique and has the potential to back fire, so no.....

There is absolutely no way that Goodwin will leave Melbourne to take over at Adelaide for 2020.  100% not going to happen.

I seriously question the mental capacity of posters that think this might happen.

It would be great if the Crows took Goodwin off our hands...would save us a fortune on the payout that we all know is coming in Round 10 2020

The way Melbourne are going at the moment we will probably give Goodwin another two years on top of his existing three years, just to fend off any suggestions about Adelaide.

Wouldn’t say “think” but “hope” it may happen.

MFC supporters would have to be the most mentally tough supporters in the afl given the bs we have put up with continually.

Ross Lyon and Fyfe to the Dees for every pick we have ?

I’m all for keeping Goody. But if he left now I’d go for Ross Lyon. He gets the best out of lists. We have the talent. He will give us a shot at a flag. Also he hasn’t been too bad at rebuilding Freo. They copped a lot of injuries this year.

There are the speculated off field concerns that he puts people off side and that can be destabilising. But the Pert link is there.

You think the supporters "hoping" Goodwin goes after one poor year are mentally tough?  Please.

If he's the wrong man for the job, that will be on display in 2020.  At this stage, I look at 2018 and 2019 and have NFI if he's the right bloke.   I know one thing though, I'm not going to waste my headspace on all of these "ideal" head coach changes.

Those that want Goodwin gone blame him for the season we had. And yet, those same people will say that it was the whole coaching panel that got us to a preliminary final last year. I for one can't understand how it's the coaching group as a whole one year, and then suddenly, when we have a disastrous year, it's all completely one person's fault! If it was the panel last year, it was the panel this year! Which is why we're seeing the departures we are now. Goodwin may be a good coach, he may be a bad one, but we'll have no idea what would happen if we got rid of him now. I imagine we'd finish 18th if we changed the coach now.

have heard the crows already have a good idea of who they want, they saw this coming and it's already down to 2-3 coaches. and Goody is not one of them.

A clean swap with Freo seems likely in my opinion.

I  wonder sometimes if our premiership coach is born yet or is he to start Primary school next year. Maybe he is a draft of 2020 or in the system already.

In any case l can only hope.

In answer to your question - 40 years.

I've only seen one poor year under Goodwin's regime though.  I'm more than happy to give him 2020 to show/prove it was/is something that won't happen again.

He will prove in 2020 if he's the man.

We need to think bigger and long term. 1 flag followed by 50 more years of mediocrity would be pointless. We need sustained success.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
