Is it just me who sometimes misses the old MFC that leaked like a sieve?

Damn this club and its professional attitude to information sharing.

Who was the Greens MP that said there’s more chance of us winning a flag than this happening? I really wanted to ask him how nervous he was before the Prelim.

Wasn't a Greens MP that said that (although they didn't support the notion, which is to be expected).

It was leader of the opposition, Matthew Guy, that made the statement about Melbourne FC being more likely to win a flag than get planning approval for the Yarra Park HQ.

He apparently knows a thing or two about planning approvals.

Been known to change his mind though...

What community benefit can you have by spending more money on Punt Rd and Geelong.  Hats off the Collingwood you drive past their facility and the general public are using it.  Even the Goshes paddock the rugby/soccer and our oval people are always using it.

One of the great things about the English language is that sometimes it can mean different things to different people. For example, for politicians, "community benefit" actually means "electoral benefit". If you read the opening sentence with that interpretation it makes perfect sense.

Yep, with out a great knowledge of those seats, I'm assuming Punt Rd would be a green seat at the moment and Geelong a Labor Seat under threat from Liberal

You got it, although Geelong (the city) actually has a number of (maybe 5?) swinging seats.

So the flip side for us we have no chance getting Yarra Park as the to major parties will be sacred to lose the Green vote

Simple. The only way to stop African gangs, and send violent crims away for long long sentences, is to build this training ground. Mr Law and Order will be on board in less time than it takes to put a sledgehammer through someone's front door.

Good news. Now the total number of things that Mr Guy knows something about is up to One. (or Two.)

Mmm I was apart from the obvious. Hoping his statement would backfire after we beat Hawthorn..

I would say we have no chance of getting any State Government or Opposition support for the proposal before the State election in late November. But every chance in the 13 months after that election (ie, up until the end of 2019), whoever wins. It's in the first 13 months after an election that Victorian Governments make decisions which might prove to be unpopular or which might provoke outrage, whether widespread or from a noisy minority, and whether  that outrage is genuine or contrived.

Fair summation.

Sometimes it doesn’t take much to sway public opinion in a short space of time.  Polling suggests that the election’s looking close enough for a major issue to tilt balance either way.

Bartlett breifly touched on this at the b&f last night basically saying watch this space, he sounded fairly confident. Has anyone heard anything?

Yesterday I shared a tram with the President of the East Melbourne Group on his way to VCAT! Now he professes to be a MFC supporter (but I think that he is too tight to take out a membership) so I was happy for him to ask me what I thought about the proposed training facility.

I am right behind this project (and have lived in East Melbourne for twice as long as he has) and I told him that I felt that it would be great for the local community as an asset and the football public.

It came as no surprise to hear that he is against it (as he is a classic NIMBY and opposes everything) so I suspect that I may have to re-enter local politics and try and prevent their opposition. Any other East Melbourne residents on Demonland happy to put together a ticket to take over the East Melbourne Group?

I can't remember if we knew this already, but Bartlett mentioned in his B&F speech that this had been 2 or 3 years in the planning so far.

It probably has and they are astute proposing the built facilities entirely on railway reservation land with no encroachment onto Yarra Park.  My view is a training oval is only replacing grassland with curated grassland and tree loss would be minimal. Even if we put a post and rail fence to define the oval, it would remain accessible to the local residents and general public, pretty much as it is now and the training times when it isn’t will be less time than when it currently is inaccessible as a car park. If it is an oval, then it will cease to be a car park so,the residents will be better off.

Now you’d think all of those things = positives for that little area of Melb...

Now that trade week is over, what are the odds an announcement will be made on this some time before the draft to keep the Dee Army hungry and momentum going strong into the draft, then new year?

Posted

I heard PJ asked about it in the podcast last night. He did not actually answer the question. Talked  about the proposed facility and said a couple of times any building will not be in parkland. But never said what the chances were. Probably due to the political nature of getting approval. My guess 50/50. But you can guarantee there will be no decision till after state election.

The impression I got from GB's B&F speech was that they were close to securing an alternative site, not in Yarra Park. This isn't based on anything just what I read between the lines in the speech

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
