Here is the article:

https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/demons-grand-plan-for-yarra-park-training-ground-revealed/news-story/2b03a10790eb2d8e7fda2a34eaa0aef6

Here is a little snippet for those who cannot get around the paywall. This sounds pretty sensational:

The Herald Sun can reveal the Demons are eyeing a prized parcel of parkland, in the northeastern corner of the MCG precinct, for a full-sized football oval.

The bold proposal would also see a six-storey complex boasting an office wing, a world-class gym and medical facilities, built on top of rail tracks next to Jolimont Station

Here is a picture of roughly where it would go when completed.  I will add that in the article it says no formal decision has been made, but we have been in talks with the state government over this option for some time.

Current car park? Thought when they announced car parks will be shut down this year that was a chance for us to get a training facility in one of those spaces.

That would be unreal, Dees, Pies and Tigs all within cooee of each other and us back training on our land.

Why cant we just train on the MCG?     We are the original tenant. We started playing there in the 1800's for gods sake.

The Greens and locals in East Melbourne won't like this. Unless an unmarked envelope is involved.

well the oval would be open to the public during non-training periods and the parkland involved would be free from parking....so there are benefits for locals and greens

the club building facilities will be on railway land so that shouldn't upset them

they will probably still get upset just because they can though

In your dreams... The annexation of public parkland (sure we call it a car park) for an elite sporting code...

Even over in Royal Park there was enormous pushback to the hospital expansion.

Good ambit claim

The article is pretty close to the mark.  There is a commercial element the development of the Victrack site too. Lots of water to go under the bridge though.

It's a bit like looney Yarra Council councillors complaining and pushing for a ban to parking in the grounds for events. Because 60+ years of cars parking there has done so much damage to the park...

There will undoubtedly be backlash and I imagine pushback from some environmental councillors.

This has been in the works for a while though hasn't it? Building over the tracks between Flinders and Jolimont, and Jolimont to...I wanna say East Richmond?

One has to try but it's not a good time to be asking.

Look at the complaints State governments are getting regarding stadium developments in Melbourne and Sydney.

To make these schemes work you need to take a complex that has a cost to Council and say we will maintain it in return for using it for x hours and then it is public space for the remainder. Yarra Park doesn't meet the criteria.

Gosch's paddock on the other does albeit that it is not a great site. Another example is the Magpies with the old greyhound track.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
