Jordan Lewis suspended for 1 week.

I'd rather see us put games into the kids to be honest (Petty, Baker, Lockhart etc), his form has been putrid anyway and his lack of discipline throughout, including the momentum sapping pre lim should see him retire or stay at Casey. He's way too slow and fumbly for the senior side now, if he wants to continue on then let him train Sparrow, Chandler, Jordan, Bedford up at Casey so they're equipped for senior footy.

Plus, he probably didn't want to go to Darwin. Too hot for an older body. It drains what little energy you have left.

Probably an element of truth to that.

I'm sure he'd rather be at home with his family as opposed to flying up for 6 hours and playing a meaningless (in the context of our season) game in 28 degree heat

I get amazed that people only able to see Lewis as good or bad.  I've never been a fan and said so early in his first year but it's silly to suggest he was a bad trade and he didn't bring some good things to the list and team.  He's played some useful footy but he's never been great.

My major disappointment with him has been his complete lack of discipline and on-field leadership.  He's helped "direct traffic" at times and he's offered stability down back but leadership is "do what I do".  He's exceptionally selective if and when he goes, he's given away countless dumb 50 meter penalties (remember the first game last year against Geelong that may well have cost us the game and a top 4 spot), he smashed Cripps behind play leading to suspension and arguably a spot in the 8 that year and he's acted like an arrogant twatt when questioned publicly on this lack of discipline.

On balance I wouldn't change the Club's decision but he should and could have offered a whole lot more.  Many here are excusing his latest indiscretion on the basis he wouldn't have been much good in Darwin, well I argue he could have been exceptionally valuable to the Casey side helping our very inexperienced youngsters learn and progress.  The Club is more than the 22 in the seniors and he has let it down time and time again. When comparing Lewis at MFC and Hodge at Brissy is damning to Lewis.

I think he should stay at Casey for the rest of the year given where we are. With players coming back that's the most likely outcome.

TBH, I can't think of a Melbourne player I've liked less but that doesn't mean I don't recognize some of the good things he's done for us.

Fan,

I concede that his kickouts are elite.  I concede that he finger-points very well after the dam-wall has busted against us.  I concede that he comes with some pluses.

The problem is he was always going to make a slow team slower.  The other issue is that that his main brief was "leadership".  How can someone who can't control himself on-field with 50's and suspensions be given a pass for on-field leadership.

You are fence-sitting a bit.  The thing I ask you is that turn the clock back 2.5 years, and what, you would do it again?

This has and always was an epic fail.  If we wanted leadership, get leadership that makes us more competitive on-field.  I said at the time, Boomer Harvey was the one we should have got.

Oops. That's a thought that you would have been better keeping to yourself.

I don't take issue with what you've said but I'd do it again.  Was Harvey available? I doubt it.  What a shame Hodge wasn't the one we got.

But IMO we were extremely unlikely to win a flag in Lewis's window (2 years) and he offered more than pick whatever in the ND.  He did play some good games, he gave MFC a profile to attract others and many of the players have spoken of how good he is off the field.

From the outside it's hard to tell but I give the trade a bare pass.  As you say and I've said his on field leadership has been disgraceful both in his unwillingness to put his body on the line and his lack of discipline.  I don't see how so many haven't seen it, but we're all different. I hope Goodwin has made a point of him to the group pointing out how his suspensions and 50m penalties have hurt the team and this is not acceptable.

But I won't miss him when he's gone. He's a Hawthorn player (and what would you expect after 4 flags) who used us for superannuation.  Big win for Lewis, bare break even for us.

There, is that strong enough for you Rono?

Agree no point playing him anymore.  no chance of finals give a kid a go.  Thanks for your service Jordon great career  but so long and thanks.   Played one year year too long  which is often the case.

Picks 48 and 66 for Lewis, 57 and 68

That's what we gave up for him. Essentially a drop down the order by 9 spots and 2 spots. Basically nothing at all.

The crux was a 3 year contract. A lot of posters knew that we would get little value out of his third year. He is suspended for one match when it was unlikely he was going to play seniors anyway.

You make it sound like he cost us a pizza box.

What about coin? 600k? 700k?

What about the guy the pushed out?  The '+1' gig really in 2017 and 2018, was the easiest in football.  Watts would have smashed it, and provided plan b, c and d options.

You never know who didn't get the opportunity and security of a spot in the team either.  Not directly related but we had a guy playing for Casey 2nds that is playing for a team that is vying for top 6 this year.

Fair go!

While Lewis is (almost) cooked, he's a 300 game 4x Premiership player who's provided great leadership and guidance to a young team

God help us if we'd managed to draft another (+1) Pick 48 who'd be turning 22 this year and probably playing at East Ringwood

TGR still going flat out.

So boring...

lewis played in 4 Flags and many more Finals.

We got him for almost nothing. It was the right thing to do.

and yes i would welcome it again.

Boomer Harvey? Why, what would we gain from that??

Hmn,   mild Daisy.

Low humidity. no wind.   Maybe Preuss could play ???   But I think Weide's skills could get him in,  to play alongside tSmith.?

Watts was a waste of space at our place and took us for a ride,  as he's done over there.   Watts is about watts.  and the rest can fest'r...  C'n it time and again,  and we are stronger since his time.

I'm glad Lewis is with us,  even if he came from the Brown and Gold.

He's become a 300 gamer, with the Dees.

DC: what more can I say? I fought yuo was da font of all noledges.

Regardless of whether or not he was getting a game this season, I’d like him more if we were winning. I hold him solely responsible for our injury crisis.

26c, 47% humidity, Dry,  13kph wind,

It doesn't sound like a sweat box...  how slippery would it be in Darwin... at 26c  &  47% humid ?

Yes, you did...   'cough'.   say 3 hail Mary's, Daisy.   and don't tell father.!

I checked trying to find that exact point not assuming.   But I fell into the trap,  of not reading  'all'  your post.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
