We're going through a season from Hell. However, if anyone should be able to cope with hell, it should be the Demons.

But it still won't be enough to win. I'd be surprised to get within 40 points.

A change up in game style and structure post Richmond.  Goody finally re-assessed after the Saints and has the players playing a much better brand defensively having been able to reset with the 10 day break post Richmond.  Confidence, belief and most importantly the mid field (aside from Gus) have grown another leg and sees us hitting our best form since the semi against the Hawks.

The biggest loss in the outs from last week are Melk and Hibb who both started to show some really good form.  Can we cover those two off with the ins?

Smith, Jeffy, ANB, Gus, Maxy and T-mac will need to fire to have any chance.

If they do, this will be a coin flip and we continue on our good form with three in a row .  If not the Eagles by 3 to 4.

My gut feel is the mid field hitting their best form for quite a while will just get us over the line.  Demons by a kick (or two!)

Perfect setup for a boil over.

if our mids start connecting forward of centre and our backline  doesn’t fall apart, we’ll be closer to the Weagles than most think.

Go Demons!

If Eagles kick a score of say 16.5 tonight, you'd have to wonder if it's more than a coincidence that the opposition are kicking straight against us.

Possibly due to a lack of pressure, enabling teams to steady and kick more truly when shooting. Additionally allowing oppo to freely move the ball closer to goal, making set shots easier. Coincidence it is not.

Win or loss binman?

Loss is the most likely outcome od. And no shame in that. We have close to half of our best 22 out  playing the reigning premier, who have most of their best available, at their home ground interstate.

But hope springs eternal and whilst a loss would hurt (but not sting, assuming we give total effort) a win could change the trajectory of our season and be one for the ages.

Beware the motivated underdog, coming off an inspirational last gasp win, who have nothing to  lose.

Go dees.

If we win tonight I honestly wouldn't care if we miss finals. I mean, I would, but it would be a spectacular "[censored] you" to the football world, which has fixated on our seasob failures thus far.

Victories under these circumstances build character and teams.

The Coaches Simpson 1 win Goodwin 2 wins

not bad against the premiers!

Cannot understand the Preuss non selection.

His game last week was almost outstanding. If he wasn't selected he should be at Casey building up his tank and perfecting his forward role.

Taking him as an emergency is just strange.

Weidman's non appearance for Casey along with Spargo is equally perplexing. With the two injuries at the senior level last week to Melksham and Hibberd the team structure is becoming non existent.

I suspect Pruess will come in for Petty

This is the least confident I’ve been going into a game in a long time.  Nevertheless, I will still be at the game cheering on the baby maker in his debut game.

out of interest why do you think that?

Petty's game last week was on the better side of okay and they certainly aren't like for like.

I get the dirty ball logic, but there is something to be said for putting Andre the Giant in the goalsquare given our penchant for high bombs and might hold McGovern deep too and limit his impact

I have a feeling Omac will be a late out.

Hence the inclusion of Petty

Is he injured?

Otherwise I seriously doubt it

He looked NQR at the end of the GC game.

Just a feeling :)

Definitely hurt his ankle in that last tackle and was hobbling pretty badly. But why would they not make petty emergency in that scenario?

I hope they don't play preuss. Conditions won't suit.

Pardon my ignorance, but is Petracca often named at full-forward?

Tough gig for a first gamer, but keen to see Oskar Baker make his debut.   A big bodied mid with serious pace who loves a goal. Just what the doctor ordered.

Have you actually got the right player ???

Oskar is not big bodied (82kg) and he's definitely not a mid.

He is a pacy outside player & maybe a crumbing forward.

That is a much better description CF.

Is it wet?

I thought it was just going to be cold... ?

I don't know if this helps or hinders us...

The numbers paint a daunting and troubling picture. If Melbourne loses to West Coast on Friday night, its September dream is all but over.

And history rarely lies, writes TOM MORRIS.

Nah.... the defining games are against GWS and Adelaide and to a lesser extent Collingwood. Win two out of those three and we are still in it.

A win tonight would be great but realistically it's about managing the loss given our poor percentage and playing our top ten players into form.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
