Where are you from, I moved here when I was 8 and started following the Dees then before Sean and Jimmy came over. went back twice  with my folks in the mid 80s and in the 90s by myself.

Under no circumstances is violence like that acceptable.

its a passionate game but I would be horrified if I was there with my 7 year old girl who loves the Dees especially Clayton and saw this.

I love all sports but will not attend Melb Vic v Melb City to avoid incidents like this.

If the AFL was up to their virtue signalling best they'd ban grog at the footy.
But we know that won't happen.
I get sick of people constantly squeezing past me to either get grog or go to the pizzer during games.
Go get grog, come back with 2 beers ..... Go to the pizzer, come back with more beers.
And then there's 5 fools doing that in your row.
Up down , up down ...... Just FO already.

Should be more dry seating areas.  and special drinking zones around the ground on most levels. maybe standing areas.?

Interesting discussion.  For my money I will say this:

• Being disabled or mentally ill is not a free pass to do anything you like with no consequences (very much like the "economy" really isn't a universal justification for anything our politicians want to do, no matter how much they might wish otherwise).  He is still perfectly capable of behaving in an acceptable manner in public. 
• Being a mindless drunk thug is likewise not a free pass to do anything you like with no consequences.  He is also still perfectly capable of behaving in an acceptable manner in public. 
• Violence should only ever be employed to protect people. 

I don't think either of them are blameless, but I will never know the whole story, so I can't really judge.

Why is there this debate about this Hawthorn supporters mental capacity.  Like that was ever in question.  Pretty much all Hawks suporters are NQR in the head to the extent they are arrogant obnoxious turds.

I have read a lot of social media comments in regards to this Hawthorn bloke.

Apparently he gets quiet abusive at the footy and causes a lot of trouble against opposition supporters. I read there was an incident where he fully abused a woman saints supporter and her little daughter at the footy and other supporters had to step in and so did the police.

Obviously has form.....

Mr Ploegmakers, who has an intellectual disability, admits he threw beer on the Dees supporter but says the man had insulted him.

If this young man has an intellectual disability then he has truly been poorly ‘cared for’ by his carer.  Getting on Hawks TV so he can be ‘built up’, then not helped to define appropriate behaviours at the footy, and also not being cared for enough to not get near an opposition supporter if he cannot control his physical responses is all poor.

It all is so ‘hilarious’ to build him up and encourage him to carry on.  I doubt he would have been called these things bu the Nufti who hit him if he wasn’t ‘engaging’.  Then he is poorly managed to allow him into this situation if he has no ability to control his physical response.  

No one looks good here.  The young man is now scared to go the footy.  Hard way to learn a lesson that could have been better imparted by his ‘carers’ over time.  But then that is not as ‘funny’ as having a disabled bloke going off at the footy, is it?

The Nufti who punched him in the head will get done, society will demand it. (Punching someone in the head is an OTT response and does potentially lead to the terrible one-punch outcomes no-one wants to see).  But he also did not deserve to have his chilled beverage knocked all over him.

But I suspect this young man has been poorly ‘cared for’ in this instance, and leading up to the incident over time.

Get what your saying, but it would appear there is too much separation between incidents for that to be relevant. Even with the Hawk's guy being the aggressor in this, the video clearly shows him walking in the other the direction and the Melbourne supporter catching up with him to punch him. Probably no chance of a self-defense argument in this context. 

Old mate deserved a punch in the head from all reports and I have little problem with it given the Melbourne bloke squared up to his face, gave him an opportunity to defend himself and didn't continue after the guy went down. That's about as civilized as a fight gets these days.

I am a big fan of pointing to the scoreboard. (When we win) (Shutting up when we lose)

In an advanced society there is no place for punching people. Probably no place for public drunkeness  and no place for stupidity.

Violence is not a solution. For those advocating that the Hawthorn supporter got what he deserved I say an intelligent human would assess the situation and walk away knowing that there is no benefit in escalating the situation. An intelligent human will take in all available information (likelihood of CCTV for instance - or retaliation from hoards of opposition supporters - the possibility of accidentally killing someone and going to gaol) An intelligent human assesses  the information and makes informed decisions. An intelligent person does not put themselves or loved ones at risk. 

No one deserves to be hit. Some people need help and guidance, hitting is no solution.
