I honestly hate the "drank their own bathwater" comments. It implies that each individual in the entire team has that mindset when that just simply can't be true. I can accept that a few might have that mindset/attitude but to say that every individual has a shared mindset of arrogance is just absurd.

2019 Results would suggest otherwise

We are on the bottom of the AFL Ladder today, nobody is below us

The Football Department do not work hard enough, and the Club allows it to happen.

Like everyone I have been hurting this season, seeing the boys lose again and again. But I have moved through the cycle to the acceptance stage where I realise maybe just maybe I over estimated the boys. When you look at their form last season you realise we were not consistent. Sure we had a run of 6 games in the middle of the season but this was followed by 3 losses in a row. We didn't string 3 wins in row until we hit the finals where we got to 4 wins and then had a shocker in the prelim. So I still believe we can turn it around but we need to be more consistent. Sure it will take some luck but as some sage person once wrote..... So come on boys lets go!

Why is it,  that you imagine that it is a conscious thing ? thinking?

and not just a inner comfort.

And if it was,  it would certainly vary,  from person to person.

I will be happy if we yo yo up to the top four next year SWYL.

I know we wil not win a flag in my lifetime so will be happy with the wins that a top four result would produce in 2020.

Come from a family of early leavers DV8, all good at present.

The list is not GF material yet and has at least three years to get there if everything goes well and we are talking about the MFC. Watched Carlton yesterday and their list shows more promise that ours in 2019.

Beauty.  I reckon you've got plenty in you,  Ol'Dee !

Carltons list is clearly better than ours now...  just not so much showing on the ladder, Yet

We are having a hiccup season...  but we've been opened up. rolled open,  like a can of sardines... this season.

None of our players including  'Oli',  are up to last years standard.   Oli is wasting his possessions... and so is Brayshaw,  disappointing.

Tracca is being shown up this season...  he was similar last year in An In-Form team.  He just doesn't get into enough contests...  and does not defend anywhere near well enough,  when we haven't got the ball.

Gawn is not getting his taps away as accurately this year.

But has improved a little around the ground last couple of weeks.   Still not influential enough.

We are sorely missing TMc's good form thru the Midfield where his Marking,  and his run, both ways... is a big help to the flow of the team.  Something is wrong with TMc.

Did he renew his contract last season?   Is it he, getting a huge amount of the cap space ?   I don't know...  but the team appears out of sorts...  as well as out of form ?

I reckon Max is doing all he can!  2 time AA for this club and should get respect.  As for the club, well it’s all been said a million times.  There is not any answer until the list is capable, hungry enough and culturally tough enough to please supporters.  One of the saddest tales in AFL history.

Maxy is a legend. Huge man. Ripping bloke.

Pity about the team he plays for in 2019. He should switch to a team that has GF chances or he will be another RF.

But the big guy should be our captain.

Thank you to Jones and Viney but you're inspiration leadership isn't there. The big fella is all heart and a real leader.

Just keeps on delivering.  His effort to knock the ball over the line at the end said it all.  Just never gives up.  We are lucky to have him.

Yep completely agree... Seeing the boys coming off at half time he was the one player with a voice. Jones and Viney no where to be seen.

So nobody has noticed Maxy can not even carry out the most basic skill, kicking a football, and for all his so called great tap work, we lose the clearances every week, that’s the truth, yeh sure a quirky guy, who has bad feelings about losing every week, built like a matchstick man, that’s the club all over, losers in denial from the President to the bottom, laughable.

Except we won the clearances tonight, but don’t let stats get in the way of your argument.

Cool story bro.

Gawn is the best ruckman in the competition by a long long margin. Yes his kicking is average but he’s a superb mark, he’s great below his knees for a big man, and his efforts are unquestionable.

Also Gawn’s job is not to win clearances it’s to give our guys first use of the ball. Considering his percentage of hit out wins is over 58% and he’s had 244 hit outs to advantage this season (both stats put him in the elite category), I think he has more than done his job.

Jack Viney is our gutsy leader - Ranked 28th at the club for 1%ers.

Jack Viney is the coach's on field general - Rated worst in the league for kicks retained inside 50.

Jack Viney will lead the way for us to 'get something out of the rest of the year' - 0 tackles, playing in the guts, in the wet.

I want to love him. He's been my favourite player at stages. But he is not a captain. Not once this year have I seen him direct players, give instructions on the field, read the flow of the game and adjust to it or deliver a message or spray that has seemingly worked.

Obviously you can forgive shortcomings if the player is a fantastic leader that organizes the troops, teaches and instructs out there (particularly with the runners basically gone) and makes the team run efficiently, but I'm yet to see Viney do those things.

Nothing will change though. Goodwin made the captain's call and he's too stubborn to drop underperforming favourites of his from the team, let alone demote a captain he himself picked.

Agree... Time for Max to be given the (C)ap!

And May to be VC...

End of story...!

Has to happen end of season at B & F... We can’t wait until pre-season. 2020 for us has already started.

Viney?? I've said it all before and now reality plays out!

Should take a long hard look in the mirror and abdicate from Captaincy!

No if's or but's about it!

Dreadful!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
